its a pretty "old" model since 1990s pa ang technology & underpinnings nito... It had many facelifts and re-branding done by Ford... IMO, buy newer models with newer technology & underpinnings.

    Personal experience ko w/ the 2003 2.3L A/T Escape:
Ride- on the car like to truck like continuum, its more on the truck side. Not as bad as a pickup though.
    Consumption- 8-9 Kms/L highway
    Acceleration- kinda sluggish
    Brakes- hindi kumakagat agad
Air-con- OK naman but not as rapid cooling as a Nissan.

    Just need some feedback guys:

We're being offered a reasonable price for a 2.0L Escape (2004, 4x2 a/t) and the condition is quite exceptional based on my experience with getting 2nd hand cars that's why we're considering it against the other sedans were deciding on:

    - It has better space then a sedan and the driving feel is good
    - the only thing going against it is the 2.0L engine was rated to have poor power and fuel economy. The 2.3L would of course be a better option but it's out of my budget range.

We test drove it and the city driving is okay, tried to give it some hillclimbs and it did okay (relatively) but i know it's different under highway/mountain road circumstances that's why i'm hoping some peeps can give feedback.

My uncle has one. He uses it as a daily driver and for trips to Pampanga, Manaoag, Ilocos, etc.

The only inicent so far is the rear license plate flying off and getting lost somewhere in between Ilocos and Manila.

Compared to a sedan (he used to drive a Civic ES), the Escape is more versatile (with its wagon body). If you lived your whole college life driving a Td27 Frontier, power from the Escape's mill will be adequate.

The only upgrade so far on my uncle's Escape were OEM 'V6' badges on the front fender. hehehe. +5hp?

Hehe... true. and the ES Civic i drive now isnt exactly a torque monster.

My point of debate is now focused on the fuel consumption as this will be my daily drive (QC-Makati)... and my previous rides were all gas misers (1.5L gas m/t and 2.7 diesel m/t). Been reading on the past threads that some peeps get around 5.5km/L with their 2.0's (vs. my usual 11-12 km/L), which is already Pajero V6 territory.... but true, i'm really considering this because of the wagon lay-out since i also drive out on weekends.

Kapitan, i assume you already have the 2.3L Escape, if that were in my budget range i would definitely get that (a couple of my relatives have that model and they're very happy with the power and 7-8km/L city mileage).

Medyo beware... the price shock is big when you're going two classes up in size. I went up from a 1.3 Sentra before to a 2.0 626, and that hurt. I can't imagine how much worse it'd be to go straight to a CUV... especially since every owner I know complains about it...

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Yup tama ka sir. Tipid talaga sa gas. I myself would admit na I don't know how to read ung mga yan (fuel consumption) but base on 2-3 long drives per week, matipid sya. Di ka frequent gagastos sa gas, usually once a week ako magpagas. Then minsan pwede 1 or 2 more drives then tska lang full tank ulit. Tipid yan sir tska ok lang kahit 2004 model, pareho lng naman ng body. Importante makuha mo na yan para enjoy ka din hahaha. QC to Makati kayang kaya.

Kapitan: i had the same feeling myself but I rationalized later that the fuel tank is much bigger that is why it last as long on the same routes as my 1.6 haha But if you compute the actual milage, mine is getting around 6 km/li in the city (2.3L).

Vinj: Nice ride, that's what i can say about it If fuel consumption is an issue, gas CUVs should not on your list. If in very good 2nd hand condition and low price, grab it! That's the beauty of an underdog brand when you are scouting for 2nd hands.

The Ford Escape still has that nice ride. Just be sure it is in mint condition.

Thanks for the inputs (and words of encouragement?) guys.

I definitely like the ride and feel of the Escape and the condition of the car is quite good that's why we're considering it (we just stumbled upon the car when the owner went in a dealership to pick up her new 2.3L Escape ). I just gotta do some number crunching before i decide finally... if it did around 6 to 7km/L+ in the city then that would be pretty fine, i was just shocked to see peeps mentioning 5-5.5++ km/L with their 2.0's when i surfed the net. :P

Maybe you'll like a diesel AUV like Crosswind or Tucson CRDi much much better. Great fuel economy and power (although i heard Crosswind is slow but i find it ok looking from the outside, I've never been in one yet).

The SantaFe CRDi i drive city consumption is 8-10km/L. Went to EK Sta.Rosa (the farthest the car has reached so far) and it consumed 14/14.5km/L with occassional 160kph sprints, 4 passengers. Still far from the 21.4km/L the Kiwis set with their local SantaFe CRDis (I'm assuming they stuck at 90 or 100kph that's why).
