The Sportivo? Rice mill is too kind... it's more like a tractor...
RE: dash - true, that's a problem with the Mazda3, too... hard to upgrade if that's your thing, but for 90% of the buyers, what's there is enough. I will confess, though, that I'm not entirely sold on the blue backlighting.![]()
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
i like the facelifted prior to this. this looks more like the gen1 CRV.
i like the shape of the new headlamps, just dont like the blackout theme...
so as the taillight, i just dont like the crystallized finish..
the interior is screaming IM CHEESY!!!
i dont like the FUGLY alloys...
but all in all, i think the essentials of the Escape is still pretty good.
Well it still looks macho pero there's something wrong with the headlights, i think it's ugly. When I went to ford last week the agent said there weren't any promos and freebies for the new escape.
didnt like the tailights.
other than that, almost the same escape.
Me too, I like the new look better than the old version.though alittle more techno-modern would have helped. (bmw style halo headlights?, sante fe front park lights)
Hi,
Sa harap, parang mas macho ng konti ung previous, and ung tail light parang di nga bagay.....
You can check nga ung 2008 Escape sa ford US website, and I love it! Siguro pag dumating ito dito, change ako dito from my 2006 Escape.. :D
Regards,
Luke
Owner ka rin pala ng Escape. Pareho tayo 2006 model din yung akin. Sarap ng ride no? Although may mga maliliit lang na ayaw ko gaya ng recirculating aircon switch, at mejo matagal kumagat and trany na kelangan mo tapakan ng malalim talaga accelerator. Averall masarap din naman imaneho and very comfortable. Itong 2007 model ang sumisira sa maganda nang looks ng Escape.![]()
Hi,
yes, I got mine May 2006. Sarap nyang i drive and ung ride, very comfy, may mga small things nga like that aircon, but masanay ka rin. What I like also, is ok ang acceleration nya, in my experience. Oo nga, I still want this exterior compared sa latest, but I'll bet ung 2008 model ganda.
Regards,
Luke
Just to update on this:
I've had the car for around 2 weeks already; I use it to work around 2x to 3x a week and then this is the weekend car as well (stop and go, short distances). Gas consumption would be around P400 more then what i would spend on my Civic (i'm getting roughly 6++km/L city driving if my calculations are correct).
Took it on a highway drive last weekend with a full pax load plus some beach luggage (Zambales-Pampanga area). Power for passing and keeping speed of around 100-120kph on the expressway is okay once you get the feel of how and when to push the gas pedal and drive with the momentum (love the handling and driving feel) ;) I would do 60-90kph mostly with moderate passing and a couple of flat out runs to 170kph+ on the expressway; my computations are at 10+km/L range so not bad either (from a full tank it did over 420kms with the fuel gauge pointing between 1/2 and 1/4 afterwards).
On highway hillclimbs you need to push the pedal more though and you cannot just coast it with a light foot as the engine powerband is really in the high rpm range (over 3K), thus the feeling that it is underpowered.
However, the real test for this is when i drive it to Baguio as this involves traffic, hard overtaking and braking and real mountain road climbing.
In a nutshell, so far i'm happy despite all the criticisms on the 2.0 a/t being an underpowered guzzler... although my eyeballs popped out when i saw what Ford charges for the 25K service so i opted to do the service independently at 1/3 the price (tutal wala na sa warranty).
Before anything else, congrats on your 'new' ride. Regardless sa kung anong criticisms ang naibato vs the escape, ang importante, masaya kayo with its performance.
If you're getting 6+km/L city driving, matipid yang unit mo. My wife drives one and she's more lightfooted on the accelerator than me. She averages 5.5kms on our 3.5yr old unit.
Baguio won't be too much of a challenge with the escape. Konting ingat lang sa pag-akyat at alalay lang sa overtaking.![]()
Congrats ulit, vinj. Masarap talaga ang handling balance ng Escape... it really does feel like driving a tall sedan.
Modify na yan... Bwahahaha!
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
I actually spent some time looking at the engine bay to see how in the world i can cram a good set of 4-2-1 headers and a set-up a cone filter with some heat shielding. ;) but that's just an afterthought (when the opportunity presents itself).
On overtaking, the trick is you have to let the car downshift first and bring the revs up before you go onto the passing lane (something like when you drive a diesel where you have to accelerate before sticking out on the passing lane but at a lesser scale) as the power surge comes in at around 3.5 to 4k rpm and sometimes the a/t tranny is caught off-guard in downshifting right away. Kelangan nga ng kaunting alalay as it's not a "point-and-shoot" vehicle when it comes to overtaking... good thing the height and handling does offset that so you can plan your moves better. ;)
I probably get slightly better city mileage as my trip to work is early in the morning when traffic is still somewhat light... i only get stuck in the rush hour traffic in the evenings.
I'd go for the cone filter and heat shield first, before anything. I've noticed the air intake of the current Escape (not sure if the 2.0 was the same) is low (flashback: Rey Butch Gamboa... "Why are there holes in the engine block?" :hysterical: ) for a Ford/Mazda design. It's bumper level instead of the "baha-friendly" hood level intake of the Lynx or the Mazda3.
But for any minor or hardcore modding, there's tons of room inside that engine bay, with the engine mounted so low.

I might actually heed to the concern of Butch Gamboa, SPMJ and buy my engine a nice raincoat ... or ipaligo ko sa epoxy to make sure walang butas yung engine block ko![]()

There's lots of room indeed, the only thing with the 2.0L is the exhaust manifold space is tight due to the engine orientation so i have to take a good look before deciding on having a header fabricated.. the 2.3L engine has the intake and exhaust manifold in reverse order already (intake manifold is behind the radiator while the exhaust manifold is on the firewall side).
Any recommended places to have an adaptor and heatshield for the K&N fabricated? I already have a spare K&N cone filter so i just need someone to make an adaptor since it's unlikely they sell a bolt-on Simota tube for the Escape in Banawe.

Don't know many places in the Metro.
I've been talking to Speedlab on Quezon Avenue (they're opposite Pegasus), and they can take measurements then fabricate, then you can go back to them... but they're a bit pricey. At least you'd have a box-type shield that should help protect it from splashing, too.
Hindi ba round outlet yung MAF ng Escape? Should be easy to adapt it yourself with some rubber sheet (to help make the mount air-tight) and a clamping O-ring from a hardware store (that's what I did). The heat shield, I just bought a secondhand Simota stainless from a clubmate. The only thing you'd need to fabricate is the mount to keep it from flopping around (most backyard talyers or mekanikos can do that).
