E10 Ethanol, bad for your engine & economy? [MERGED]

With our exchanges on the performance of e10, I am not that convinced to load the 1997 lancer glxi A/T we are using with e10 (I am loading it with Shell unleaded which seems to be getting better reviews than Petron).

Incidentally, is it normal to smell gas after parking? When I go around the car after I have parked, I usually smell gas, particularly from the side of the gas tank. The rubber of the cover is still OK. Could it be a leak in the hoses? But there are no visible leaks. Hmmmm. I wonder if this could be a factor kaya 6-7km/liter lang ang FC nito. Come to think of it, about a week after loading full tank, medyo faint na ang smell.

same experience with Petron Unleaded vs. Shell Unleaded. mas maganda pa nga ang takbo ng oto ko sa Total Unleaded eh. comparing Shell Unleaded and Caltex Silver, mas ok sa akin ang caltex silver.

ang pagkakaiba lang natin, hindi ko sinisinghot yung gasolina kaya di ko napansin na mabaho sya...

sa sobrang mahal ng gasolina eh pati yun amoy nanghihinayan ako eh...sinisimot ko na talaga..hehehhe

seriously though, naamoy ko kasi lagi ako bumababa ng kotse habang nag fill up...

the discrepancy in your fuel consumption is because you are on AT. the gsr mt averages around 8-9 kpl city and around 12 kpl at highways. at 6-7 km/l on your at car, your consumption is on the average.

errr. yun ang tanong ko. bakit sa rapide? daming mas ok na shops.
baka pag sa rapide ka magpunta ang sasabihin nila sa iyo is magpalit ka ng gas tank mo...

Using Shell's E10 93 octane car 2005 xtrail 2.0 - were getting 7.5 km/l city driving.

Before using e10 we were using Shell v-power 95 octane and we were also getting around 7-8 km/l city driving.

At least we are getting a 2 peso discount for every liter of unleaded.

afaik, even carbed engines can use ethanol fuel as long as it is at max 20% only. some carb engines need to have their timing advanced a little for better mileage and efficiency, others don't need to.

in a previous contribution (#61) it was mentioned that a carb engine will not run properly on E10. has anyone used it in a stock corolla 2-E. did the timing have to be adjusted.did your fc improve.

it will, you will just to have your timing adjusted.
fc will still be lower.

thank you. at least i can try the E10 with out fear of catastrophic results. if the fc does not make it economically more viable than unleaded, then at least i should have a cleaner fuel system without the need to buy an expensive cleaner.

Does anyone know which branches have E10 in stock at this time? A lot of E10 branches lately seem to be out of stock of E10, and for more than a week now. I understand ethanol's still being imported which is why it's in short supply, pero ang tagal naman yata?

It took me a long time to zero in on the better fuel for my 2003 Suzuki Jimny JLX A/T 4WD. Since start of 2008 I noticed that all premium unleaded 93+ RON brands (Shell, Petron, Caltex) that i have used here in QC seem to have deteriorated and no longer compatible with my ride. Finally, i tried Seaoil E10 G5 unleaded 93+ RON and have been very satisfied since then. Once i tried switching back to the big 3 brands just to validate my fears. Expectedly, the knock sensor started complaining again. So balik uli sa Seaoil. THE BIG IMPROVEMENT? no more pinging sound everytime i floor the pedal.

I made some researches and interviews; sharing findings below -

1) Seaoil G5 Unleaded E10; meets Euro 6 emission std; petrol imported from Singapore and ethanol comes from Brazil; certified 93+ RON ( i have to use 93+ , std unleaded or E10 unleaded per my Owner's Manual)

2) Petron unleaded 93+ RON meets Euro 5 emission std

3) Shell unleaded 93+ RON is Euro 2 std (min quality under Clean Air Act)

Sorry, i have not used E10s of Petron and Shell. I am sticking to Seaoil's E10; i barely notice significant change in my FC. I still do 9-10 kpl in city driving on 2WD. Other JimnyClub members get 12kpl max.

i tried petron's e10 after nearly emptying my tank of xcs fuel. performance wise it was comparable with xcs, maybe because of their same octane rating. but fc was bad.

for city driving i use shell unleaded e10. out of town trips i'll go for the regular shell unleaded or vpower.

hmmm. hindi tutoo ito. kasi hindi naman lahat ng oto pwede e10.

try ko sana mag petron e10 kanina kaso 2 gas station na pinuntahan ko walang e10, nauwi ulit sa shell unleaded e10. cocompare ko sana kung anong mas maganda para sa FC.
