*number001: My answers are in RED. I do hope my answers will be of help to you.

    1. How's your unit so far? Pls share with us anything especially problems, gripes, dislikes, etc. The unit is great. Performance-wise, I have no gripes, whatsoever. The only dislike I have is the beige interior which can easily get soiled (I've got a 6 month old boy, who'll soon be jumping all over the place). The brown and beige interior does look more refined than the dark & light Gray interiors available for the Innova. But, it's kinda high maintenance...

    2. Is it really worth the extra 300K to get the diesel? Not into off-roading or 4WD systems, so it boils down to engine performance of gas vs. diesel. My greatest concerns with diesel are the massaging vibrations, woodpecker noise, emission of black smoke with age, as well as the supposed higher maintenance cost with diesel engines. Does the diesel engine of the Fortuner act like a stereotypical diesel engine? I never minded the P300K difference of the 3.0V from the 2.7G. The 3.0V's price seems immaterial when I consider the over-all value I'm getting, as compared to any other brand diesel SUV in the same class and price range. As for the NVH, surprisingly, there is very little of it. Black smoke with age? Well, that's a sign of, either abuse, or poor maintenance. And, that's something that I've never done to any of my rides (my first ride ever was an Isuzu Gemini Diesel). As for maintenace cost, it's still too early to tell. But, I'm hoping to get less costs with the new CRD technology. But, mind you, the Fortuner is still a diesel workhorse that has typical diesel quirks, like the need for a higher temp to get better performance and the smelly exhaust.

    3. How's the front wheel well cover coming along? Is there really one that was removed from the factory? Even in the Thai forums, they've got the same issues. I've asked my dealer to contact me, if ever an OEM cover will be available in the near future. For the moment, I'm considering making a custom wheel well cover of my own design. Who knows, I might just make some money selling wheel well covers for the Fortuner!

from which dealer kaya? n where is ur HUD located? did ur delaer turn off the reverse beeping sound upon installation of the backup sensor? tnx again.
Sent you a PM. The HUD is on the clip-on rearview mirror. Kinda cool actually as it completely disappears when the coast is clear. The standard beep remains. Again this unit doesn't really need any sound but the warning tone, if switched on, is enough to grab your attention. The speaker and switch is on the clip-on itself so no problems switching on and off.

I guess makikisama na rin ako sa mga patiently waiting to be fortunate enough to have their Fortuner. I placed my reservation last May 19 for a 4x2 2.7L Gas Silver/Dark Gray/White.

And then around 1st week of July, I went back to my agent and told him to place also a reservation for me for the 4x2 Diesel na rin, which ever comes first, I'll be gladly to have it.

Pa-add din ako sa future 4x2 Fortuner owners, color white.

According to my mom's friend sa Toyota Balintawak, #4 ako sa pila. All I'm hoping now is that it comes with the 3.0 diesel engine.

*trader: That back-up sensor of yours sounds nice! Which dealer did you get it from (PM me naman and tell me sino hahanapin)? Having a HUD does seem a lot better, not to mention the fact that you can turn-off the beeping ('coz the reverse beep is already noisy enough).

My nightmare is finally over! I got my 2.7G baby!!! Silver lang nga

I need advise... I plan to install an Audiovox in-ceiling DVD monitor. Will this void my warranty? I think it is 15-20K more expensive if i get it in the dealers. Also has anyone bought the wood panelling? It is available in the dealership but not sure if it looks good.

congrats fortfan! ok yang silver. di kita ang dumi pag umulan. gaano ka katagal naghintay? ako kasi waiting for the launching of the 4x2 diesel variant. number 12 ako sa list sa toyota makati. sabi sa akin ng toyota mavo-void warranty mo sa electrical system kung di ka sa toyota bumili at magpa-install ng backsensors, add'l electrical ek ek. ask them na lang kung may mga nagkaproblema sa electrical system sa mga toyota owners na nagpa setup ng sounds system within the 3 year warranty. kung wala naman i think it's better to have it installed somewhere else. suggest ko sa yo sa kid audio sa binan, nananalo ito sa mga car shows. mas magaling pa ito kesa sa mga shops sa banawe. pulido din ang trabaho. worth it pumunta kahit malayo. at least ma te-test drive mo pa ang bago mong fortuner (inggit ako!). delikado pa sa banawe, baka manakaw pa side mirrors mo. anyway, congrats again!

    Hi trader,

Can you attach a pic of the HUD? I'm interested in the back-up sensor also. Thanks!

I see some people here 'rejecting' their Fortuners kasi it didn't come in their preferred color. Guys, next time something like that happens, post nyo naman dito sa board, para mga fellow tsikoteers natin ang makinabang sa pag 'reject' nyo ng ayaw nyo na kulay. Suggestion lang po.
