I currently have ROTA Extreme 20" with 265/50R20 Hankook Ventus tires. Hindi sumasayad. If you plan on using 18" wheels, go with 265/60R18 tires.
I saw one thread discussing RON (Researched Octane Number). I checked the RON manual and it stats that for our VVTi Fortuner (2TR-FE), the minimum RON is 91. Does this mean we can use unleaded gasoline for our VVTi ride? For Shell Unleaded, it has a minimum Octane rating of 93. I read from that thread that using higher Octane rating has no noticeable benefit for our engines. Unless you believe in what the gas companies say that, like for V-Power of Shell, it cleans your engine better than the regular octane gas.
Considering the prices of gasoline is skyrocketing, I am thinking of downgrading my gas from V-Power to just unleaded as long as this is acceptable and does not damage my engine.
Any comments from the experts there? Thanks.

Minimum yung 91, ano yung recommended?
The manual does not mention the recommended RON, just the minimum.Originally Posted by swimstroke
I have not tried other fuels aside from V-Power on my Fortuner so I don't have any basis for comparison.
Although in my other car, I tried both and can't tell the difference. Kaya Unleaded ako doon. At ngayon, mas gamit ko ang kotse na iyon para tipid ako sa gas. Kung kailangan ko lang pumorma, saka ko ginagamit ang Fortuner. Baba nga ng Odometer reading ko. I only registered 9K for one year and this includes several out of town trips including Baguio. In my other car, I average 15K a year but then I have more than 1 car now kaya distributed ang gamit ko between the cars.

Hi everyone! Newbie here... Anyway, we have a Black 2.5D4D Fortuner ZBU-**6 almost 14,000 km mileage. Fuel comsumption city driving around 8.4-8.5 km/l, highway driving 13-15 km/l. We achieved 175 km/h on NLEx last december when we took it to baguio. After mapalitan di na bumalik hard starting. Yung talbog hindi na masyadong matagtag after ma-break in na fully loaded yung kotse.
Just want to inform you guys that someone is selling me Original Toyota Fully synthetic oils 5W40 at only 350 per liter... FYI.. applicable for both diesel and gas engines...
WBR,
Just want to share this info. for guys out there who take their Fortuner / Hi-lux off-roading.
I have posted on this thread the following :
Fortuner in Action Part1 - Mt. Ampacao (Dec 2005)
Fortuner in Action Part2 - Mt. Pulag (Feb 2006)
Fortuner in Action Part3 - Balbalasang NP, Kalinga (April 2006)
Well after 3 major weeklong++ trips to the Cordilleras in a period of less than 1-year from purchase, the front end of the Fortuner started to rattle !!!
Hmm, could the front suspension gave way so prematurely???
Last May he brought his rattling Fortuner to Toyota Makati to check on the intermitent rattle, but after a thorough diagnosis, Toyota Makati said his front suspension were all intact and nothing was wrong with it.
Then the rattling came back and this time it was more persistent so he brought his Fortuner to Toyota Marikina - after another thorough diagnosis, Toyota Marikina changed his front shock absorbers.
During this time, another off-roader friend-Phil did a solo climb of Mt. Tapulao (Hi-Peak, Zambales) to try out his brand new OME-equipped Hi-lux. 3/4 of the way up, he had to turn back due to a landslide. The trail was extremely bad and by the time he got down, his front end also started to rattle. Phil with all his years of experience off-roading was however quick to diagnose that the rattling was caused by his lose brake pedal which transmitted the vibration through the steering column all the way down to the rack 'n pinion housing making it appear like the front suspension was rattling (it just got tightened).
Back to the Fortuner, now with brand new front shocks -
Then, after a couple of days, back to Toyota Marikina with engineers from the Toyota plant -Got my fortuner with shocks replaced under warranty. Five minutes from the
dealership and I heard the rattle again. It wasn't the shocks after all !
Will return the truck on Saturday. My friend at Toyota says he will now involve the people at the plant.
*lexus, I know you also take your Fortuner off-roading. If your front end starts to rattle pre-maturely, now you know it's just the brake pedal. They finally solved the rattle. It was the brake pedal as Phil originally
suggested! Increadible!
I did mention this to the dealer a while back after Phil first suggested it
but I guess they didn't want to beleive that it was the problem.
Well, after changing the shocks and checking the entire front suspension
and steering assembly (and finding nothing wrong) they looked into the
break pedal. The problem was the pedal is quite heavy (almost 1 Kg) and the
bushing supporting it is quite inadequate. The pedal bounces and rattles on
rough roads and the vibration goes all the way up the steering column. They
solved it by adding a shim to the bushing and tightening the bolts. As it
was the people from the plant (Toyota Motors Phils) who were called in by
the dealer who worked on it, there will now be a broadcast to all dealers
to watch out for this for all fortuners and hiluxes. Not exactly a recall
though. In the future, they will probabaly replace the bushing to a
sturdier one.
At least I have new shocks!
FYI, HTH

Fortuner owners should be aware of this so they don't have to worry unnecessarily. Imagine a loose brake pedal manifesting symptoms that even the casa/Toyota plant people would think it was something more major. They went nuts looking for the cause of the rattling front end. It happened to Mario's Fortuner and Phil's Hi-lux - both having gone through major off-road trips, & quite regularly at that.
