Copy and noted! Can I "DIY" if my water outlets are not working?

Another bro, do you use fuel treatment para maging mas malinis daw ang fuel system natin especially yung injection pump.
With our old liteace before eh i tried different brand of oils pero I settled with Shell Helix, which I think is a good product. Sa fuel treatment naman, I just ride on with the explanation of the SA on using it. Manageable naman yung cost, though I cannot really tell straightaway whether me benefits or wala. one thing I know is that kailangan talaga malinis ang fuel system natin because of the technology of Common Rail diesel engines.

Since I'm not using any car freshener (oil or waxed based), I decided to spray lysol overnight and come the next day, when I started it, out came the foul "vinegar smell" from my aircon vents that some posters here described. I have not spilled anything nor placed anything that might spoil overnight. My carpet is not wet as I've already checked. My only hunch is when I sprayed the lysol, I think some of the bacteria (or whatever it is called) migrated to the aircon ducts and they are now causing the foul vinegar smell? I've tried switching the air intake from outside to recirculate and vice versa...it's still there.
I'll try the charcoal solution and spraying lysol directly into the vents later.
If you guys have any suggestions, thanks in advance.
Have read threads with the same problem and nobody seems to have found the solution yet so I'm posting this. If somebody did, please...pa-share naman po!
I was the one who tried the lysol procedure on my vios as suggested by someone. The foul smell came back after a few days so I reapplied some. Until now, wala na syang foul smell even though we've had a rainy one week or so. It is best to apply the lysol spray under the globe compartment. Nandoon kasi yung intake ng aircon for the recirculation. Put your fan selector switch at highest when doing the procedure. This way, the solution will practically cover the whole system, from fan, cooling coils, to the duct and vents. I bought the concentrated solution and diluted it with the recommended amount of water.

Mile2's suggestion to leave the windows/doors open once in a while is a good one. I do this every saturday when my wife arrives from the market. Malansa kasi yung amoy ng mga pinamili.

Update on foul vinegar odor in the aircon...

Thanks to Mile2 and timo07...pag-start na lang meron smell, after that wala na.
I'll just follow your recommendations until totally mawala na siya.

5 kaming nakasakay sa innova ko that time.

Kaka-changed oil ko naman and nakaka 1,500 Km pa lang siguro ako since my last change oil. Semi-syn gamit ko using shell helix.

May tune-up din ba sa diesel? Anu-ano pinapalitan sa tune-up? and of course, magkano inaabot?

?
Did you clean your air filter?

I would think though that its more of a driver issue and the closer gearing of the Hiace which keeps it well in the power band if you properly play the gears on 3rd and 4th. Also, a lot of the Hiace and diesel vans that ply Kennon road are normally shuttle services and these drivers know the "line" of Kennon Road and the performance range of their vehicle on it pretty well.

Until I read about some Camry owners' complaints about this same sour smell, and now come the Innova owners' complaints.

My friend who owns an Innova also confirmed to me that he has also experienced this.

I've grown tired of this problem already, but I've observed that the best thing that minimizes the smell is a dehumidifier (venting out the cabin also helps in this, I suppose).

What I don't understand is WHY this happens to our Toyota's and not on older vehicles, like my 2 trusty old L-200's, our family cars (Galant Sigma, Toyota Corolla late 1970's model, Lancer, and lots of others, some American cars) ? I've always just turned on the A/C a few minutes after starting the engine, and switched it off right before killing the engine. No "full blast FAN only, A/C off" voodoo done at all, yet there's no sour smell.

Any ideas, folks? Could it be in the design and/or materials that Toyota has used in our rides?

Actually to avoid this foul smelling, always turn on your rear aircon.

Ganyan talaga pag dual aircon, you have to use it in tandem kahit ikaw lang ang sakay.

The foul smell is fungus sa floor/celing carpet and your seats.

status on foul vinegar smell:

Pag start na lang ng aircon talaga meron after that wala na...

The funny thing about it is what started my problem was Lysol talaga. I sprayed it and come the next day when I started the aircon, umamoy na siya. As in continuous, through out ng biyahe.

But with recommendations of Mile2 and Timo07, sa pag start na lang meron siyang smell.

For me...
Lysol caused it...
tapos Lysol + charcoal under the glove compartment solved it.

Mas mabagsik kung sa prior use ay pinatay ko ang makina nang hindi pinatutuyo ang aircon ducts by killing the compressor and turning the fans full-blast, for a few minutes, before turning off the engine.

May cabin filter ba ang Avanza, if yes, try cleaning it first.

Share lang regarding foul smell during aircon operation, my daily practice to avoid this problem is to turn the fan at full blast with the thermostat setting at "off" position with the side air vents directed outwards or facing the front windows while they are at open position during warm-up before each day of use. If you have the foul smell problem this will gradually remove the foul smell during A/C operation.
Effective sya base sa observation ko from my previous old van likewise sa innova ko. I also recommend to clean your air-filters (for late G & V series) monthly if possible in order to maintain optimum A/C performance.

Hope this hepls.....

I think what they are complaining about is that dreaded "amoy-pawis" o "hindi-natuyong-husto-na-basahan" smell. The smell becomes evident when the aircon is first turned on and slowly dissipates in minutes.

I think molds will form if big patche(s) of moisture is left unattended on the carpet or seating upholstery. So there are mold formation inside, the moldy smell is the first whiff you'll get when you first open the vehicle's door.

I also notice that "amoy-pawis" smell becomes evident again around 5 minutes after turning off the compressor and letting the blow in high mode. This is strange and ironic since we deliberate take this methodical steps in drying the a/c but in the end, the smell manifests itself again.

Air filter? Yun lang kaya yun? Bagong bago din kasi yun hi-ace and wala pang plate. Toyota dagupan nga nag nakalagay. Siguro nga kabisado nung driver yung daan. Pero may bearing din siguro talaga yung condition nung unit nya 'coz I've tested my unit on all roads going to baguio - naguilian, marcos and kenon and mas ramdam ko yung kulang sa hatak ng unit ko ngayun.

I have to try cleaning or replacing then my air filters next time na akyat uli ako.

If its a Toyota Dagupan unit then it is quite likely that the driver runs Kennon several times a day since Baguio - Dagupan is a busy commuter route. I normally take Kennon Rd. as i enjoy the scenery and sweeping curves a lot as the banking is done well... plus its faster. I only avoid Kennon if its been raining hard (as rocks sometimes fall on the road).

The air filter should be cleaned everytime you go in for service and then replaced every 5,000kms. Diesels are quite sensitive to clogged air filters as compared to gas units. Another filter i replace every 20,000kms is the fuel filter element; although the owners manual doesnt call for it, the original element (not the fuel filter assembly) is pretty cheap at the CASA so i just change it since its a practice that i do with all our cars before.

Now that the topic on the foul smelling AC was brought up, i do recall that my wife was complaining about a palengke smell when i start up the AC on some mornings in our Altis. I thought it was mainly because of the trapo i used to wipe the interior at times.
