Rektahan, the 3.0 Fort still couldn't catch up since both cars have the same top speed limits and considering the (somewhat?!) acceleration advantage of the VVT-i Innova over that car. Must be something about the difference of tire size and aerodynamics. The 2.0L M/T Innova can do 187km/h (or more) without drafting and reach the electronically limited speed of 190-191km/h *5500RPM with a faster car up front. Oddly, that speed can be sustained even while out of the draft.

The fatness of the Innova doesn't help on acceleration across the board. But if compared to similarly sized cars such as the Fortuner or to smaller cars with smaller engines such as the Vios or City, the Innova can win on the open road. But I didn't say that it will...

"na spoiled lang siguro ako dun sa isa kong car, 1.2k-2k rpm palang kasi yun naka pin down nako sa seats hehe." - your other car must have a V8.

--p.s. I only compared the VVT-i Innova with cars I've "tested".--

    bratski,

pls consider also weight of innova to cars, kaya during start iwan ang innova but after sometime makakahabol or iiwanan pa ang kotse, kasi subok ko na yan sa vvt-i inova m/t ko. peace! cheers to everyone. wala ba e.b this april? bye for now.

good day guys, not if this was asked before tamad mag backread. how do you lock the spare tire? pangit ata kadena na nakasabit. Is there any other way? Sales rep told us to buy a lock for the reserve tire. How easy is it to steal the tire? akala ko may secret nut to remove spare tire.

Let's give him a chance, maybe he can explain further. Pare what are your basis for saying that? can you give us your expert opinion on this

Re: leaking gas tank. talaga palang malambot gas tank ng innova kasi dami nagrereklamo. I hope I wont experience it. Someone said (in this forum) that he had his gas tank reinforced done in a welding shop. I hope he can provide us pictures.

Just use your search function, everything you need to know can be easily found on the I'net.

Anyway, here's a link to your query, with other accessories price list included: http://www.toyotabalintawak.com/cont...sparewheellock

If you are in a tight budget, put your spare tire inside the cabin, it can fit in the back of 3rd row seats, just put floor stoppers so that it will not roll and put blanket on the tires so that it will not smudge the back of 3rd row seats and rear door panel. The tire can be fitted even with 3rd row seats inclined.

BTW, I have my spare tire at the back of my 3rd row seats, because I have toroidal LPG tank in place of the spare tire anchor area.

    Enjoy your Innova

I did, reinforced my gas tank by putting gas tank cage and skid plates underneath. It's hard to take picture without lifting the car at lifters. The design was just collaboration between me and my welder, what is important was that the cage don't touches any part of the tank and has sturdy skid plates underneath.

Just use the "Search this thread" function and input appropriate keywords.
To give you an overview of the issue, it is discouraged to have their spare tire secured with chain and padlocks as these can easily be cut by bolt cutters. After getting rid of the chains, this gang (they call themselves the donut gang) simply reach on the tire valve and deflate the tire, reaches for the chain mechanism, lowers the spare, removes it from the chain holder, and make a run with it. You'll never know your spare is gone until you check it. Here's some pics of the Solex tire lock assembly and the mounted spare after installation:

Nevertheless, I encourage you to back read the discussions regarding the issue.

    Peepz,

After 20,000kms, we removed the spare tire lock as we needed the tire for the scheduled tire rotation procedure. After securing the spare tire, we couldn't get the lock fixed on the stud attached to the rest of the lock assembly. The locking mechanism was stuck. I sprayed the lock's hole with WD-40 but it still wouldn't lock in place. So dad hit the lock on the floor until it did. By the way, our lock's a Kaco.

My Innova has a diesel engine and I'm quite happy with its performance. Maybe you could substantiate your claim so that I can get back to Toyota and ask why they are selling these cars at about One Million Pesos with garbage for an engine. It is unfortunate that a number of fellow owners have problems with their cars. I hope that they get satisfactory resolutions to their issues.

What's the usual cause of the noise being produced in the engine once in a while for about 3 seconds especially at during start up?

    Drive belt? Timing belt?

This is the same question I asked Toyota people in casa here in Cebu. They did not give me an answer. They say that that sound is normal...

What kind of noise? Diesel or Gasoline?

What you heard would probably be the compressor being engage.

BTW, it has timing chain not timing belt

Why don't you get the more sturdier and reliable Solex brand. Look pal, how much does a spare cost compare to a solex tire lock? you wouldn't want to shell out bucks for a costly spare than a P2.5k solex, don't you?

Just a warning...some casas like Toyota Balintawak sells Kaco spare tire locks for PhP3,500. Like I was telling, it wouldn't lock as it got stuck when we removed it after about a year but we eventually fixed it. I dunno about the Solex, but for P2,500, I think it's a good deal. Well, maybe, compared to the casa-sold unit. At least Solex has a reputation to protect.

We have no idea yet on the quality of the generic lock priced at P1,500.

If you think it is not normal, you better have someone check it. If your ride is D4d probably you have problem with your turbo or some broken gasket.

You may want to back read here, some D4d owner experience a sound like a boiling kettle or something like gas escaping sound.

Never experienced this in my vehicle. As Mile2 suggested patingnan mo na sa expert or sa toyota mismo. If you know a mechanic that you think is knowledgeable, have him take a look at your vehicle but seek second opinion if you are in doubt on his assessment. Sometimes, a well-experienced mechanic will be able to directly point out the problem to you that you never realized before.

Bought my Spare Tire Lock at Toyota directly for about P3K plus. Brand is Solex and the key has a Toyota logo on it. Your Kaco must have corroded inside that is why it got stuck.

i noticed this sound too in my vvti unit at cold startups, is the sound "tik, tok, tik, tok". i think this sound is coming from the a/c compressor. this only happens in cold startups and a/c turned on.
