pretty much, plus the sta fe's torque is focused on lower rpm's.

does that mean, SF can only draw that huge power on spurts and cannot be sustained?

Based on my experience w/ the Santa Fe that was tailgating me on the Skyway, it could keep pace with my FXT even up to 160kph, and it looked effortless because as I gained speed, it was just there in my rearview mirror as if being drawn by a magnet. But when I floored it to 200, the Santa Fe got left behind.

This can only mean 2 things: the Hyundai wasn't fast enough or its driver couldn't be possessed by the speed demon. I won't say anything else against the Hyundai coz the fanboi who's been stalking the Top Gear FB page might see this and hi-jack the thread.

I don't know. At that speed, I only glanced down at the speedo and kept my eye on the road and other cars. Couldn't risk getting distracted.

it's been discussed on other threads over and over again. anyway to keep it short and simple, it doesn't lose power on higher rpm's but it doesn't have as much pulling power anymore compared when the rpm is below 4k. unlike the forester once it hits 2.8k rpm it starts to gain power and keep gaining power till 7k rpm. that's why in motorsports there's more gas powered car than diesel, in short the sf has more pulling power than the fxt but the fxt is faster. from stand still the SF will slightly pull ahead until the xt's turbo kicks in then the SF will be left behind. if you look at the spec sheet and 1/4 mile time the xt will be faster and reach 100kph faster than the SF. also at high speeds the xt will be a lot more stable than the sta fe.

OT: though this are for Hyundai, this illustrates your point?

I'm guessing that JackFlash can do this on 3rd gear?
Based on the published gear ratios and tyre size, the FXT on 3rd will be at 102kph at 2500rpm (turbo starts spooling here?) and zoom all the way to 204kph at 5000rpm... grabe ang haba ng tercera noh? hehehehe... I'm also guessing it happened in a flash

4th gear is just for overdrive, i guess (again!), to merrily cruise at 206kph at 3500rpm...

Care to verify my guesstimates with real-world figures, JackFlash?

It's an AT so I wouldn't know what gear that was. All I remember is stomping on the gas, feeling the downshift and the subsequent upshifts til hitting 200kph. As mentioned earlier, at that speed, all I glanced at was the speedometer, then kept an eye on the road and other vehicles on the skyway, especially the lane hoggers and straddlers.

The SCP forum seem to be limited or has access restriction (unless you sign up and log in, I think ?).

Also any idea where can I buy the XT rims ? Not alot of people are selling theirs. How much will it cost for the rims alone ?

Saw a 2.0X yesterday with 2.5XT rims. Really does a lot to improve the car's looks, even without the turbo scoop, rear spoiler and tailpipe finishers. Anemic talaga itsura nung 16" rims eh.

The Legacy Wagon is faster, has more passenger space, and packs more features. Of course, it's 400k more expensive too.

If you're fine with what the Forester XT offers, I'd suggest that you go for that instead. My main nitpicks are that a new model is coming up (pero 2014 pa naman) and that it has a pretty old 4-AT. Aside from the price, its biggest advantage over the Legacy is that it's got much higher ground clearance. If you've been watching the news for the past week, you'd know how useful this could be.

I know what you mean....ground clearance maybe the factor...specially if the rear passenger space (between legacy and forester) is not that big. thanks !!!

legacy wagon has the advantage in everything even the luggage space is bigger. the only disadvantage of the legacy wagon over the xt is the ground clearance.

thanks foresterx -- > I want the legacy wagon...but my mind is telling me that the practical choice, is the Forester XT. Is it true that Forester XT has a starting/stalling problems when it rains hard ?
