That's a good upgrade I think. But if you're coming from an MT CRV, I think the FozX will be slower. Ride will be much better though.

Excited for the upgrade! docs approved and ready to settle everything before month end!

been visiting forums to check up on stuff like:
    1. insurance (in house or outside)
    2. recommended petrol (velocity/blaze/gold) or regular unleaded (unleaded e10)
    3. if in house tint is 3m (and what's the best combination for the forester steel silver -- yes, I'm adding to the steel silver statistic :D)

    see you guys soon!

question for the subaru gurus... on the fence between the 2.0X and XT but this might be the game changer... i've been told by the subaru agent that for city driving (daily route is mandaluyong-binondo) the 2.0 variant would be a better choice if fuel consumption efficiency is a big factor. the 2.5 is more ideally suited for longer/highway travels.. is this the case? also, for my daily route what would be the estimated km/l for the 2.0X? XT? salamat...

btw if it helps, i'm not a need for speed guy, i will probably not do any mods..

Konti lang difference sa consumption between X and XT AFAIK. From feedback, less than 1 km/lit. But if you get the X, marami kang pambili ng gas in terms of the price difference between the 2.

OTH, the XT will put a smile on your face all the time.

salamat sa reply pup2... last question lang underpowered ba ang 2.0x for its size and weight of the car? kasi me kia sportage ako and i'm getting 5-5.5 km/l sa route ko although talagang babad sa traffic naman kasi... feeling ko rin the engine might be underpowered for the vehicle size or weight, dunno lang kung iba sa subaru since ibang type of makina and design... btw officemate ko has the previous version of the tucson and the 2008 CRV and we're getting almost the same consumption

Average ko sa XT is around 6.5 to 7.5 km / liter city driving with very minimal traffic, pero kung sa binondo ka everyday sa tingin ko 5 to 6 km / liter ka sa XT (tancha ko lang base sa mga pagpunta ko sa binondo) compalin ko lang sa XT is noise vibration sa loob ng cabin, compare ko sa honda namin na much older, pero wala ka marinig na ingay sa dash board

Kapos sa power kapag apat na passengers. You have to floor the gas pedal. IMO, mas ok pa nga ung 08 sportage ko. I drove from sorsogon to manila kinaya ng sportage ng 7 hours. Doing it again with Forester 2.0 the same time, condition and all else, hindi kaya ng 2.0X ang sorsogon to manila ng 7 hours. It took me 10 hours. Sayang, I sold my Sportage.

Subaru Forester 2.0 is more than enough for daily use. It also has the same number of airbags as the 2.5XT.

Where do you buy consumable parts (oil filters) aside from casa? Mayroon ba nya sa banawe or rotonda sa Pasay?

If I had 1.7M, it would be a choice between 2.5XT forester vs 3.2 GLS SE Montero. But due to budget constraint, I can only choose between the 2.5 Montero vs 2.0 Forester. So I chose the Forester 2.0x.
Hello everyone, Same dilemma, slightly different scenario.

Just like powerloord back then, I'm thinking between the Montero 2.5 and the Forester 2.0. The only difference right now is that I also have a Tucson ix 2.0 GLS. Now, I love the new Tucson. It's got the most features compared to those within it's class in the same price range.
Thing is, my dad likes it so much too. He plans on getting one 4th Quarter this year.

Which gives me a golden opportunity.

He says he doesn't mind buying the Tucson off of me and this gets me to rethink if I still want to consider the Montero 2.5 or the Forester 2.0.

The Montero is on my list because I like how it looks. Has higher ground clearance for when the potholes, dips and floods get worse (which have happened lately). Is diesel (tipid). Things going against it are the bumpy ride compared to smaller SUVs, I don't like the fact that it can seat 7, has no luggage screen at the back (theft prevention for sensitive equipment), too big sometimes as it's usually just me and my wife driving around and the diesel common rail engine is a good/bad thing (higher maintenance cost, rail horror stories, smoke emissions are worse... compared to gas of course)

The Forester is on my list because it's a Sooby.
Oh, and because I like the fact that it's AWD and has more airbags than the other 3. (Obivously safety is important to me and my new kid on the way). It looks great. Size and height is just right, not too big to be a hassle to drive and park, not too small either to make you feel timid. and it's got cruise control. (i just got caught speeding 2 weeks ago and I tell you, I find it hard keeping a steady 40km/hr reading)
The things that are potentially going against in my book are the Fuel Consumption, underpowered engine and maintenance cost.

Here's where I hope you can help me.

    1) I read back through the posts and see comments about the 2.0 being underpowered. I'm using the 2.0 Theta engined Tucson and it has enough power for me. I drove up to Quezon with 6 people (including me) and I was able to go up and down the slopes of the mountain without any problems. Granted, the take-off acceleration leaves much to be desired but I don;t race... I'm stuck thinking if the only reason it's called slower is because its being compared to the 2.5XT. Is it?

    2) Fuel economy. I understand the Forester (or Fozzy as i think that's what it's lovingly called here ) will inevitably consume more being an AWD. Can someone reconfirm that it consumes about 5 km/li City driving and maybe 8-10 km/li hiway? If it is, i think that's acceptable a compromise for the AWD feature. I mean, you can't have your cake and eat it too.

    3) How much more expensive are car parts for the Forester? 3k plus for an aircon filter is quite a bit on the high side but i;m not sure it's indicative of the pricing for the rest (or is it?). I understand that a new unit will give you years of service free enjoyment... but just like death and taxes, replacing parts is inevitable. Any comments?

    4) Is it true that the 2.0 version is on HIDs for the dim lighting? I don;t see a projector lens but then again, maybe the housing is built for HID.

    5) What do you love most out of your Forester?

Sorry for the many questions guys!

    3) While on the topic of AWD, anything special specific to the Foreter's AWD technology?

when i was in the market for a car, kasama din sa choice ko yung MS. but i chose the forester over the MS becuase the MS interior just feels so cheap and the ride isn't great also. try to test drive both and see which you prefer, also have you looked at mazda's cx-7? grabe ganda, sayang wala pa cx-7 sa philippines nung bumili ako ng car.

    to answer your questions:
    1) yes, compared to the XT it is very underpowered kasi naman XT has the wrx engine in it so it is fast. compared to a tucson, don't know how much difference there is since i haven't driven a tucson yet. pero compared to regular cars we see in our roads daily, hindi naman siya under powered. and my car before the 2.0x is an 05 STi, and driven lots of fast cars, so i can say that it is not underpowered compared to regular cars on the road we meet daily.

    2) 5-8km regular FC of the 2.0x, that's because of the awd so that's one of the downsides besides being underpowered.

    3) subaru only makes one of the best AWD system there is, only audi can match up to it's AWD system. search for subaru awd on youtube and you'll see how good the AWD system of the subaru is. you'll even see an STi pulling a 40footer truck out of an icy road.

    4) parts are a bit more expensive compared to other japanese cars, but not that much.

    5) all subaru's are equipped with HID.

    6) what do i love most in my 2.0x, it feels like i'm driving a car not a CUV. also even though it is "unerpowered" it makes up for the handling, handling is very great especially in the twisties and very very stable at 190kmh.

if you can get the XT i suggest you do, the difference in performance is just to big. when it comes to performance no asian CUV/SUV can compete with the XT. the combination of handling and power of the XT is just truly amazing, plus the potential of the XT's engine is also amazing. can you believe that with just a full exhaust, cia, and ecu tune the XT will be as fast as the STi.

*agentk98, how you define "underpowered" and "fast" matters. it's painfully slow compared to say, the Tucson diesel, since you mentioned it. But compared to the Tucson gas, it shouldn't make a huge difference. For sure though, it will handle much better than the Monty on mountain passes.

Safe choice? The 2.5XT, if you can afford it or save up for it in the near future. There's a lot more kit and a lot more performance than the X in the XT, so that should put a smile on your face. then again, it still can't go through floods like the Monty can. Depends on your priorities.

fusionR sells oem parts, not sure about the others. but oil filters, brake pads and air filters can be found in most auto parts store. subaru use regular brake pads, oil filters and air filters so i'm sure you can find it some where else. i think the STi is the only one that uses a different kind of brake pads.

*foresterx.. thanks.. medyo kinabahan ako dun sa subaruclub.. Nag ask siya ng price for a single headlight.. 96K ang isa... Hindi ba masyadong mahal yun. Hopefully, we could buy parts outside casa,
