Vaccine: Only a few months away
    BABE’S EYE VIEW FROM WASHINGTON D.C. - Ambassador B. Romualdez (The Philippine Star) - August 2, 2020 - 12:00am

Here in Washington, we have tirelessly been interacting with US pharmaceutical companies, specifically with Pfizer, where we already had several virtual meetings. We are also in touch with Pfizer’s country manager in the Philippines Andreas Reidel with whom we discussed our requirements for the COVID-19 vaccine following our meetings with officials of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) including Health Secretary Francisco Duque, Finance Secretary Sonny Dominguez and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) chief Boy Dela Peña.

With the Philippines’ participation in the Gavi COVAX facility which is a global coalition among countries and vaccine manufacturers, we have a better chance of getting a successful vaccine with 150 candidates under development, with 25 of them now undergoing human trials in various stages.

During earlier conversations with Secretary Dominguez, he indicated that funds will be available for the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines. During the televised meeting of the IATF with the President, Secretary Dominguez said as much as $400 million will be allocated for the purchase of 40 million vaccines to be distributed for free to 20 million Filipinos. Priority of course will be people living in congested areas, which we suggested since viruses tend to spread more rapidly in communities where thousands of informal settlers live.

We also spoke to Manny Pangilinan whose hospital group owns and manages more than a dozen hospitals all over the country. The group is preparing to purchase the vaccines for distribution in their hospitals.

    ^^^

a few months away from US FDA approval

    that's one thing

another thing is when the vaccines will be available in PH

after US FDA approval of a vaccine/vaccines it will take months before the first shipment of vaccines arrive in PH

my comment to your initial comment, was addressed to the current infrastructure, where i opined that money can only do so much, i.e., may hangganan yan.

your suggestion at building new structures and hiring professionals to man them, is the way to go.

imo, whether we like it or not there'll be a tipping point that ECQ will be re-imposed automatically.

anong gagawin ng gobyerno kung walang ng mapaglayan ang covid cases at ang medical frontliners can't cope up with these high cases? ilipat ang mga severe/critical cases sa isang isolation center at hayaan na lang to pass away?

the mortality rate isn't that high, naman.
but patients do need significant medical care, so's they may have better chance at recovery.
it is the minimally symptomatic ones, that could conceivably be transfered to the less exotic isolation centers, where they may wait out their usually un-eventful recovery...
early identification and isolation of the covid-positives, remains, to me, the important phase in battling the disease.

There's other options. I was browsing LGU's cases and muntinlupa's cases are interesting, they have 775 active cases 764 are on home quarantine and only 11 are admitted.

So does it mean they are managing it properly since based on their records their hospitals are not overburdened since 11 lang naka admit.

If ganun why can't other LGUs do the same. Imaging 11 lang ang naka admit sa kanila.

So ibig sabihin pati yun mga quarantine facilities nila is marami pa available.

Govt has to choose talaga what among the industry that needed to be sacrifice, hinde pwedeng madamay lahat for total lock down nanaman.

Yew do it gradually pero hibde talaga lahat pwede buksan until there is vaccine.

Why would Asian hospital say that kung 11 lang for the whole city?

That's according to muntinlupa's city hall record.

Sorry mali pala ako. Suspect cases pala yan. So baka overwhelmed na rin hospital nila. Oopppsss

Active confirmed cases pala nila is 724 almost same number ng active suspect cases kaya nalito ako.

Ano ba yun ginawa nila parwng nabasa ko dati na feature sila what they are doing to fight covid bakit mababa yun case nila

come to think of it, di ba even before the pandemic madalas mahirap na makakuha ng kwarto for admission.

continue pa ba iyong quarantine facilities sa rizal memorial, picc, world trade center, etc?

kasi from the start ang veterans memorial medical center at perpetual help talagang overflowing na ang covid19 wards nila. iyong vmmc na supposedly for armed forces vets and for those in active service lang eh madalas na-didisplace pa ng mga family members ng mga nasa posisyon (na may kaya ha ) para syempre makamura at makalibre sila. notorious dyan iyong isang visible sa tv parati na kababayan ko pa

btw, nasa hallway na nga ang mga pasyente sa vmmc na may covid19 nung april pa ata. paano pa kaya sa pgh, ritm. and sa san lazaro hospital?

we'll probably get a better feel of the situation,
if they mentioned their number of covid-reserved beds, and the full-ness situation therein.

I guess yan sinasabi ng yata ng DOH na hinde pa puno dahil hinde naman daw 30% na allocate ng mga hospitals for covid-19 cases yun beds nila kaya pwede pa sila mag expand but on the other hand short na rin sila sa manpower kaya hinde nila ma reach yun 30% allocation.

If that is the case govt should step-in and maglagay ng manpower sa mga private hospitals sila na rin magbayad ng sweldo.

Off the top of my head aside from gyms, internet cafes, salons, barbershops wag na muna siguro. Dine in too but retain takeaways, deliveries and drive thru.

2 week break even from just these industries would still help albeit a lot less compared to MECQ.

The number of active cases is rising at an exponential rate. Couple that with the 2-6 week recovery time for most cases and you clearly have a situation that isn't sustainable.

Even if they got those mass quarantine facilities running the sheer number of people getting infected will still overwhelm the system.

And it will take time to get those facilities online. Something needs to be done now.

Hanggang walang long term investment sa healthcare infra and capability ng pilipinas, ganito nalang tayo lagi. Kaso kapal ng mukha ng gobyerno na to, sinisi pa yung mga doktor kaysa umamin na nag-screw up sila.
