China Corona Virus Outbreak

Madaming masyadong natatakot sa covid even here in tsikot. Yes, it’s a novel disease. But we know the mortality is not high. Yes it’s extremely infectious, but we know how to prevent it (masks, hand washing, disinfections, etc.). And most hospitals, after 3 months of taking care of covid patients, would have already determined the best way to take care and cure the patients.

If you can afford not to go out at all, then good for you. You are one less person lingering outside.

But if everyone would think the same way and actually stayed home, and groceries and public markets are closed because no one could report to work. Restaurants will also be closed because they cannot buy the ingredients to cook their food, and also, the cooks will also be staying home.

Then what would everybody eat? Unless you have your own farm, plant your own fruits and vegetables, and some pigs, chickens and maybe cows.

What if you’re living in your luxury condo? You will eventually run out of food. And the government won’t be able to feed everyone forever.

I am in the essential foods business. I deliver food to groceries and public markets. I employ lots of drivers and delivery helpers. They are going out everyday to different public markets in different towns and provinces. They receive salaries and they can feed themselves and their families.

I have never stopped my operations during ECQ and now GCQ. Me and my wife also go to our office everyday, even our 2 children are in the office almost everyday. We require them to help in the office if they don’t have school.

We have been living as normal as possible since the pandemic began. But I am not complacent. I know I might catch the virus. But I do try to be as careful as I can. Not to the point of wearing full PPEs. I try to live as comfortable as I can, as safe as I can.

Luckily, I think, none of us, including all my employees, have catched the virus. Or maybe we are all asymptomatics already. I have never done covid tests, and I don’t have plans to do so, unless I will be required.

Since the first day of lockdown, I have provided Vitamin C + Zinc or Vitamin C + Calcium + D3, whichever is available, several washable face masks for each, and a bottle of alcohol in each delivery vehicle. All vehicles entering our compound needs to have the tires and wheelwells sprayed with disinfectants. I have also put up a hand washing sink near the gate.

I also regularly go to groceries to buy my needs, go to hardware stores like wilcon, go to restaurants to takeout food.

I will soon have a construction project at my house. I will be building a covered garage and plan to start construction middle of June. Walang wala ng pera mga construction workers as per my contractor. Hindi sila maka avail ng SBWS since alam naman ng lahat pag small time construction workers lang, hindi naman nagbabayad ng SSS and wala din silang TIN. So all the more na dapat kong ituloy ang project.

We really need to keep our economy going for everyone to benefit. Not everybody can afford to stay at home any longer.

1. you don't live in manila, am i right? if i remember correctly you are based somewhere in northern luzon. by all indications, the number of covid19 infectees is no where near that of the ncr's. w/c means; and this is relative, you can take certain liberties w/c can be considered pretty suicidal in jampacked manila.

2. in my small circle alone, there have been 5 deaths attributed to the plague from china.

actually, the fatality number is 7 but 1 of them is still in the icu, currently in a vegetative state w/ a bleak hope of coming out of her coma anytime soon. and yes, she has been confirmed to have been stricken w/ covid19.

the other family friend who perished recently is a pulmonologist, whose family members say died of a heat stroke. but of course, her colleagues in the medical profession quietly refute.

and all these people i talk about do not exactly belong to the lower rungs of society, hence, it's safe to assume they took the necessary precautions to avoid getting infected.

so please don't preach to me that covid19 is not a virus to fear because the mortality batting average it has isn't supposedly "high".

3. my family has not exactly dug a hole and hid from the world all this time. i myself just came from a run around the village this afternoon. of course, like everybody else, i had to take certain precautions w/c i never used to do before - w/c each one of us know by heart by now.

my sister also regularly goes around to see her patients in the hospitals she practices in (w/ a feeling of quiet dread, might i add). every time she gets back to her place, she quarantines herself because she's deathly afraid of bringing home the virus to her kids.

so again, please excuse me if i try to avoid doing any unnecessary activities w/c involve other people from stepping into our home where my 86 year old mother lives.

don't get me wrong, i agree and understand the national economy direly needs to be jump started posthaste, but it has to be brought back to life w/ certain precautionary measures.

and that's exactly the reason why nowadays i run to the grocery more often to buy and chug down liquor a little bit more because drinking is now considered a patriotic act due to the big chunk of sin tax it contributes to the gov't coffers.

Karamihan ng binibilhan ko ngayon, sellers sa community then home delivery. Yung iba naman may pwesto sila sa palengke (like Pasay, Taguig and Paranaque) I guess wala na nga masyado pumupunta kaya they deliver na lang for a fee.

But if everybody will stay home, who’s going to deliver your food? There’s always someone taking risks for everybody else to live.

Okay ako sa essential (food, medicines and logistics) I'm thankful nga hindi nagka hirapan sa supply ng food, hindi pa rin ako agree sa GCQ kasi madami non essential companies like ours na atat na magpapasok (without testing) kahit almost 3 months naman kami nag function at 100% WFH.

hindi magkakaroon ng paninda ang mga seller kung walang supplier

if it's a local product somebody has to manufacture it... factories need to remain open, employees need to show up for work

kung imported ang product, somebody has to unload container vans from ships, somebody has to process shipping documents, somebody has to deliver the container vans to the warehouse, employees need to report for work to unload the contents of the container van, somebody has to deliver the products to customers

a lot of people need to physically go to work during lockdown so people who stay home can have the stuff they need to live

It could be that when you go out (to and fro) the office, you spend. You use your car, you consume gas. You park, you pay for the parking fee. You need to eat, you buy food and drinks. The office switches the electricity, it will need to pay meralco afterwards. A lot of economic activity going on.

hahaha! Ako nga I look like crap, naalala ko tuloy sabi ni OB, ultimately a good body/health is the most important, wala ng bells and whistles na pwedeng gawin ngayon. I myself go out with a ziploc as my bag, tie my hair in a pony, super short nails, no jewelry and no make up. Hindi na priority looks ngayon, ang importante walang sakit

I spend more now working from home than when I used to report to work...

Panalo na nga office namin because we spend for our internet, laptop and electricity. I heard they are giving up one floor in our building, so I guess there are plans na to make WFH regular for all employees (maybe 50% of the time) It used to be an exceptional arrangement only for officers.

Italy will be accepting foreign tourists starting June 3, without quarantine requirements.
