DAILY UPDATE: Total Cases in ASEAN crossed the 74,000 mark today at 6:30 pm with almost 1,700 New Cases reported across the region. Of grave concern is the fact that Indonesia has reported close to 1,000 New Cases today, eclipsing the next two highest countries – Singapore and the Philippines. The archipelagic nation also has 1,278 Total Deaths to date - the highest number for any country with 36 New Deaths today. Total Recoveries in Indonesia is also relatively low with only 24% of all reported cases in the country having recovered. Elsewhere, Malaysia’s New Cases have increased a little since yesterday probably due to a migrant worker cluster – some of whom have evaded police custody after testing positive. Thailand’s and Myanmar’s numbers today – the only other 2 countries to report New Cases – are similar to yesterdays. Total Deaths currently stand at 2,323 and as mentioned earlier, Indonesia accounts for the bulk of New Deaths. The other 4 deaths were reported in the Philippines. There have been 1,278 New Recoveries today with the majority reported in Singapore (842). Active Cases in ASEAN continue to hover around the 43,000 mark. Of concern is the fact that Indonesia’s Active Cases have increased by 674 since yesterday.
