So many healthy athletes are dying while playing on the field. Even healthy referees are not exempt.
My uncle died of a simultaneous stroke and heart attack 10 years ago after playing a game of tennis. He was also a health buff being a physical education teacher and university basketball varsity coach. Eight years ago a HS classmate of my wife died during a marathon in Cebu. He just dropped dead in the middle of the race. There was also this report 3 years ago of a biker who crashed his bike in Bulacan after suffering a stroke. Took 3 days to identify and notify his kin since he had no IDs or a fone on him.

sorry to burst your nwo bubble (as yatta puts it), but this medical phenomenon has been happening for years. the most prominent ones i can recall are:

    1. gilbert bulawan of the pba's blackwater squad collapsed and died while at practice back in 2016,

2 in 2002, team capt migs gozum of dlsu also collapsed and died after dunking in an exhibition game. although bronchial spams ( asthmatic tapos collapsed lung) was tagged as the culprit , it was more likely he succumbed to cardiac arrest according to dr raul canlas of the famed Ph center for sports medicine,

    3. 17 year old cj servillion of the jru lightbombers also collapsed and died on the hard court during a pre-season tournament 6 years ago,

    4. danny francisco, who could've been a superstar in ph basketball, had to call it quits in college because of a bad heart. buti na lang na-agapan because he suffered a collapsed lung after a stellar championship season w/ ateneo. doon nakita after a thorough check-up,

    5. in the american basketball scene there were celebrated ballers in their prime that also dropped dead suddenly due to undiagnosed heart ailments. off the top of my head there's nba celtic greats reggie lewis and len bias. also there was the sad story of college hoops star hank gathers of loyola marymount.

sad to say, just because you're a finely tuned athlete , it doesn't mean you're exempted from an inherent structural damage of the heart, lungs, brain, etc.

my wild guess is, covid had nothing to do with it.
i am thinking... what's this foreign-name syndrome that causes MI in the young...?
sudden-death events in apparently very healthy athletes, have been going on for many years, even before covid.
own own colleague, suffered a fatal heart attack after a bout with badminton.

i tried reading back in the china corona virus outbreak pages, but i can't seem to find athrun's original post...
i think you're referring to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, doc (had to google it). i remember it was discussed thoroughly at espn and sports illustrated magazine after the sudden death of hank gathers just because he was a projected #1 pick of the lottery the following nba season. tapos his last fateful game was recorded pa so medyo scandalous iyong death niya. i think his last moments are still accessible on you tube to this day .

Yang ang problema ng mga tao, dahil athlete sila, they think they don't have any health issues, so they skip regular checkups. Until it's too late.

The Ironman competition in the phil before covid had a death almost every year.
Even professional football leagues in Europe has several high profile player retire due to unforeseen heart condition which they only happen to find out by chance.
in the last Euro 2020/21 this year a football player from Denmark(Christian Erikson) collapsed during one of their Euro2020 matches. I was watching the game live. They were giving him CPR on the field. The player was in his prime (29 yrs old), playing professional football since his late teens, no heart condition found prior, and he was not vaccinated yet.

Fact Check-Danish footballer Christian Eriksen has not received a COVID-19 vaccine, according to Inter Milan’s director | Reuters

Got a bad case of flu symptoms from my wife last week. Happily her PCR came back negative.

Proceeded with the booster shot yesterday kahit may slight symptoms pa kaming dalawa. Cursory check and interview na lang ginawa. Wanted to get Pfizer pero they ran out na daw so got Moderna instead. Arm still hurts today.

Doc, I think you are referring to Guillain-Barré syndrome, sikat siya ngayon aside from Bell's Palsy...

"The syndrome causes a person’s immune system to attack the body’s nerves. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it causes “muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis. GBS can cause symptoms that last for a few weeks to several years. Most people recover fully, but some have permanent nerve damage."

China is the only country with zero covid policy. No tourists are allowed entry. Those exempted to enter are required to undergo 21 days quarantine.

Indonesia allows entry to fully vaccinated travellers, but still requires 14-day quarantine upon arrival.

    Pano sila magkaka covid?

And in spite of the very strict entry requirement, tumataas ang covid rate ng China now.
