    haaay tsikoteeers so mahihina talaga.

    - dengue affects the poor. Sa covid with all the alcohol and uv light eh tigok pa din.

Wala sakit si bong go, pakyaw, bato and the pride of cathys makati

    New variant...

The L452 variant has three mutations that are different from B.1.1.7’s mutations, including one in the spike protein, which allows the virus to attach to and enter cells. The spike protein is the target of the two vaccines approved for use in the US. “Now that we know this variant is on the rise in our local communities, we are prioritizing it for study,” Charles Chiu, a virologist at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), says in the statement. “Researchers at UCSF and elsewhere will now be able to perform the critical laboratory experiments to determine whether or not this virus is more infectious or affects vaccine performance.”

“Because genomic sequencing is not done equally across the state or country, it is too soon to know how prevalent the 452 variant is statewide, nationally or globally,” the statement reads. Some experts say that the US is falling short in its sequencing efforts and a more coordinated approach is needed for effective surveillance of potentially more contagious new variants, The New York Times reported earlier this month.

kaya if you don't sequence, wala ka new variant

the reason why the UK is first in identifying VOC (variant of concern) is coz they lead the world in surveillance (they do A LOT of genome sequencing)

    the US not so much

Denmark not too optimistic about the UK variant down the line...

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/world...7T0T8VWT5h7828

Like a speeding car whose brake lines have been cut, the coronavirus variant first spotted in Britain is spreading at an alarming rate and isn’t responding to established ways of slowing the pandemic, according to Danish scientists who have one of the world’s best views into the new, more contagious strain.

Cases involving the variant are increasing 70 percent a week in Denmark, despite a strict lockdown, according to Denmark’s State Serum Institute, a government agency that tracks diseases and advises on health policy.

“We’re losing some of the tools that we have to control the epidemic,” said Tyra Grove Krause, scientific director of the institute, which this past week began sequencing every positive coronavirus test to check for mutations. By contrast, the United States is sequencing 0.3 percent of cases, ranking it 43rd in the world and leaving it largely blind to the variant’s spread.

Danish officials say that as a result, daily coronavirus cases there could quadruple by the beginning of April. Charts from the public health institute project that in the worst-case contagion scenarios, even with a strict lockdown in effect, cases would skyrocket. Under better-case scenarios — if the variant turns out to be less contagious than thought, or if the country can get caseloads down even further right now — the outbreak would stay more under control while they administer vaccinations.

“This period is going to be a bit like a tsunami, in the way you stand on the beach and then suddenly you can see all the water retracts,” as cases drop, Krause said. “Afterward, you will have the tsunami coming in and overwhelming you.”

Not true, I know some who live in 9 digit homes sila pa ilang beses tinamaan ng dengue.

Si shadow ilang beses na rin diba?

    weak variants fade away

those with mutations advantageous for survival continue to multiply

but if our current batch of vaccines still recognize it and stimulate our immune system to mount an effective response against it,
    "we should be fine".

Diba mayrun na mga Senator last year na nauna magpa vaccine according to Sen. Tito Sotto?
Mukhang sabay sila dun sa PSG. So gamit nila yung Sinopharm na vaccine.

Brazil'''s Fiocruz begins distributing 2 mln India-made AstraZeneca shots | Reuters

    Brazil distributing Astrazeneca vaccine

SAO PAULO, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Brazil’s federally funded Fiocruz Institute said on Saturday it had begun distributing 2 million ready-to-use AstraZeneca PLC COVID-19 vaccines after they arrived in the country from India on Friday.
And Brazil is going to produce AZN's vaccine locally

Brazil’s government has a deal with AstraZeneca to produce up to 100 million doses of its vaccine locally at Rio de Janeiro’s Fiocruz Institute, but delivery of the active ingredient needed to manufacture them has been plagued by delays from China.
    ^^^

    wait... what?

    active ingredient from China?

    haha

baka kasi gusto natin COD hehe

    hehe

but the astrazeneca vaccine isn't inactivated / attenuated virus vaccine

it's a viral vector vaccine (they use a chimpanzee adenovirus to deliver SARSCOV2 spike code into cells)

well... maybe the chimpanzee adenovirus is grown in China

    yespo.
    my bad.
    i am correcting it now.
    see above.
    valued readers, please take note.

template, in lieu of attenuated virus.
template = genetic material that codes for the spike protein.
