Merck throws in the towel... loses out of a very lucrative market...
The U.S. drug giant, which has a long history of successfully developing vaccines, had adopted a different strategy from rivals Pfizer Inc., Moderna Inc. and Johnson & Johnson, using a more traditional approach of focusing on shots based on weakened viruses. One, called V590, borrowed technology from Merck’s Ebola inoculation, while the other, V591, is based on a measles vaccine used in Europe.
Both V590 and V591 were laggards in the vaccine-development race. Merck finished recruiting the first participants for early-stage safety studies near the end of 2020, when front-runners Pfizer and Moderna were preparing to report late-stage data on their shots’ effectiveness. Merck received interim results from its trials this month.
The results were “disappointing, and a bit of a surprise,” said Nick Kartsonis, senior vice president of clinical research for infectious diseases and vaccines at Merck Research Laboratories. Both shots generated fewer neutralizing antibodies to halt infection than other Covid-19 vaccines, and produced inferior immune responses compared with people who had naturally contracted the coronavirus.
Merck Shuts Down Covid Vaccine Program After Lackluster Data
Moderna tested its vaccine on new variants
they're now working on a booster shot specifically for the South African variant

still effective against UK variant but decreased effectiveness against SA variant

so here we are
i thought pharma companies will update their vaccines later pa
Moderna is already working on it

like i said these barely-1-year-old vaccines were designed based on very early variants of the virus
by this time the virus has refined itself... became more efficient
pharma needs to catch up

I'm ****ing so frustrated with our vaccine roll out. Wala talaga kwenta itong duterte administration.
I can't forget what he said last year that he will not give in to the demands of pharmaceutical na kailangan advance payment, kaya sobrang late na tayo sa train.

We just had a video conference with one of our staff who is an Israeli and was stuck in Israel since the start of this CHINA WUHAN VIRUS pandemic. He is about 45 years old and has a physical disability.
He got administered the Pfizer vaccine and already completed the mandatory 2 shots. So far, he has not observed any side effects - whether from the first shot or the second shot.
He did say that they are still required to wear masks when going out but slowly, all places are beginning to open up.
Oo madami na, yun rin problema ko yun documentation.
Sana pwede na pa vaccine na ngayon then kuha na lang certification pag nag roll out na sila . Kanya-kanya na lang yun kaya magbayad para hinde na magantay.
Mag trying hard to be first world country nanaman tayo. Gusto dumaan pa sa kanila eh palpak naman sila. Gagamitin pa sa as election tool yun vaccination program.

Problema kasi if meron ng official vaccine, how do we show proof sa authorities that we were already vaccinated and just want to get the proper documentations. Accept ba nila yung vaccine from private doctors/hospitals? Baka sabihin mag pavaccine ulit to be able to get the certificate of vaccination.
Ano pala mangyari if we get vaccinated with 2 different brands?

kung totoo meron na nag oofer ng pfizer and moderna vaccine...
question ko -- paano nila naipasok yan?
lalo ung pfizer vaccine kailangan special transport, handling and storage
the logistics from airport to hospital
that won't be easy to hide right?
"...doc... may nasusunog yata sa ilalim ng mesa nyo..."
"a yan? hindi. may dry ice lang ako diyan. may popsicle party kami mamaya..."
hindi na uso coleman.
not since dime-a-dozen ang office cooler-hot water dispenser.
for those in the not-know,
there used to be only one place in metro manila, where one may purchase dry ice.
the magnolia dairy products plant in aurora blvd.
i know. heh heh.
we have several.
for transporting cool objects in the car.
but we don't use dry ice.
we might black out inside the car, kasi.
we use wet ice and artificial ice.
heh heh.
i can see it now..
"blagblagblag! open up! this is the puh-leese! we have a warrant to search your clinic! may nagsumbong na meron kayong malaking coleman diyan na nag-u-usok!"
"at 'di kayo nars or midwife! you have no license to make turok!"
