Oriental Mindoro 2nd District Representative Alfonso Umali Jr confirmed in a DZBB interview on Thursday that his brother died of cardiac arrest that morning, but the former congressman also had late-stage liver cancer and had a bout with COVID-19.

Umali said his brother had a medical checkup before, which revealed that he had fatty liver, but follow-up checkups had to be put on hold because of the pandemic.

Umali said that when Rey finally had another checkup on December 12, he tested positive for COVID-19, and was found to have Stage 3 liver cancer.

“Noong December 12, nagpa-checkup siya, doon nakita na may COVID na siya. Tapos nakita na may Stage 3 cancer siya. Tapos ilang days lang na-aggravate naging Stage 4 liver cancer,” Umali said.

(He had a checkup on December 12, and that's when he tested positive for COVID. It was also discovered that he had Stage 3 cancer. Then after a few days, his condition was aggravated, and he had Stage 4 liver cancer.)

He said the former congressman was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) on December 21, and was intubated on December 26.

hard to say.
the information is sketchy, and one is sorely tempted to fill in the blanks.
intubation has been a regular procedure even before covid. there are many reasons for intubation. covid just happens to be a popular suspect nowadays.

but the way the information are presented and interpreted,
one is tempted to say that each condition contributed to the final exit.
so, "contributory" does appear acceptable.

an autopsy may decide to lean on one particular entity over the others, as the most likely major contributor to demise.

REUTERS: The US drugs regulator said on Friday (Jan 8) genetic variants of COVID-19, including the one found in the UK, could lead to false negative results from some molecular COVID-19 tests, but the risk of the mutations affecting overall testing accuracy is low.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said it has alerted lab staff and healthcare providers to the possible false negative results and has asked them to consider such results in combination with clinical observations, and use a different test if COVID-19 is still suspected.

The more contagious variant of COVID-19 that has swept through the United Kingdom has been reported in at least five US states, National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins said this week.

I completed the 9 day novena mass online. Yung kanina 4:30 am ang mass. I am so groggy from lack of sleep but I asked for the normal test results of my fat lab.

I also watch the 12:15 pm mass daily, I noticed now nasa 600+ lang nanonood, normally that is never below 1k+,karamihan kaya around the quiapo area?

Somehow I feel safer as long as 100% of the people around me are wearing their face masks properly.
