The National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 and the Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (C.O.D.E.) Team conduct a site inspection of the Lakeshore Hotel Mega Quarantine Facility at the Lakeshore Hotel Complex in Taguig City on September 25, 2020.

The 500-bed mega quarantine facility shall accommodate suspect and probable cases, as well as confirmed cases who are asymptomatic or showing mild symptoms.

From the site inspection, the NTF and C.O.D.E. Team lead the inauguration of the Taguig City Molecular Laboratory located within the Taguig Lakeshore Complex. Once operational, the laboratory can process up to 600 specimens per day.

The said infrastructures aim to sustain an effective effort to keep the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases low while simultaneously being committed to the health and safety of the Taguigeņos.

Filipino diagnosed as Taiwan's latest imported coronavirus case | Taiwan News

The latest case is a Filipino man in his 30s who came to Taiwan on Sept. 10 for work.

He was asymptomatic when he arrived in Taiwan and an initial test for the coronavirus administered at the airport came back negative. However, on Sept. 21 and 22 he experienced diarrhea, but did not report the symptoms as he believed it to be caused by an upset stomach.

On Sept. 24, when his 14-day quarantine was nearing its end, he was tested again for the virus. He was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Sept. 25 and placed in a hospital isolation ward.

A total of 28 fellow passengers on his flight to Taiwan also underwent the two-week quarantine, which expired on Sept. 25. Of those passengers, only Case. No. 499, who tested positive at the airport, has been confirmed to have the disease.

Unfortunately the LGUs and DOH still insist... ilan buwan na sinabihan that it won't work, sige pa rin ang practice.

‘Home quarantine tack for Batangas COVID-19 patients leads to spike’ - Galvez - Manila Bulletin

“Nakikita po natin na karamihan sa mga naka-home quarantine ay hindi po talaga nila ma-i-implement ‘yan (We have seen that most of those under home quarantine could not implement [the health protocols]),” Galvez said during the visit of the Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE) Team with local officials of Batangas at the DREAM Zone in Capitol Compound, Batangas City.

He said most of those isolated in their homes were most likely to violate health protocols, specifically physical distancing.

In some instances, there were asymptomatic cases who spread the disease by engaging in drinking spree or chatting with their family members or neighbors, he noted.

The surge of new infections connected with the practice of home quarantine was also observed in Cebu City, Navotas City, Valenzuela City and Laguna, Galvez shared.

“Once na hindi iyan tinanggal sa bahay, hahawaan niya ang kanyang mga anak, hahawaan niya ang kanyang mga kapatid, lahat ng kaibigan sa community, tindera, at lahat ng pupuntahan niya (Once you do not remove one case from the home, he will infect his child, siblings, all his friends in the community, the vendors, and all of those who will come into contact with him),” the chief implementer stressed.

As such, Galvez said he was “advocating” the scrapping of the home quarantine policy of the Department of Health (DOH) and bring the infected persons to isolation centers, hotels, and resorts being utilized by the government in the pandemic fight so as to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

“‘Yung home quarantine sana po ay tuluyan nating maiwasan. Ito po ang discussion namin kahapon. Magkakaroon po ng directive na we will restrict home quarantine (I hope that we do away with the practice of home quarantine. We discussed this yesterday. There will be a directive that will restrict home quarantine),” he bared.

Another super spreader events occurred during choir practice.

Choir practice in Spain infects 30 of 41 members with virus | Inquirer News

The River Troupe Gospel, a volunteer gospel group, rehearsed on Sept. 11 ahead of an open-air performance two days later for a local festival in Sallent, a town in the province of Barcelona. It was their first public show since the beginning of the pandemic.

After one member of the chorus tested positive following the Sept. 13 performance, more than 40 other members and their close contacts went into isolation, the chorus said. Since then, at least 30 singers have tested positive, the Sallent municipal government said.

Although the chorus claims that it complied with most health safety measures — temperature checks on arrival, hand washing, social distancing between each member and masks on for most of the rehearsal — the venue’s windows were closed to avoid moths and mosquitoes. The group said it had switched on air conditioning to fight the heat.

Experts have acknowledged that in certain circumstances, like during medical procedures or when people are in close indoor spaces singing or shouting, COVID-19 can spread in the air. Choir practices in the United States, for example, have been identified as a superspreading event in which hundreds of people were later sickened by the virus.

How often coronavirus can spread from person to person through the air, and not just from people speaking or coughing close to each other, is being closely examined by health experts and still a matter of scientific debate.
