guys naka bili ako ng pentium II PC mura lang second hand, pang files ko lang bahay.
running of windows ME, medyo mabagal nga lang ng kaunti.
i want it to run a little bit faster so ok na ba yung pentium 3?
im using 3 right now so medyo ok lang ang speed

the question: processor lang ba ang palitan o may iba pa?

AFAIK, Pentium II are slot 1 processors, and Pentium III are generally Socket 370 processors, but i think there are some early generation PIIIs that are still slot 1 types. So if you're upgrading to a socket 370 type, u have to replace your motherboard. And if your planning to do that, i suggest you get a socket 478 board na lang para you can upgrade easily later if u decide to go P-IV.

Kimps, ano speed nung PIII mo? Ilang MHz? Also, ilang MB yung RAM? You can check these out by right clicking on the My Computer Desktop Icon. Typical upgrade items are CPU and Memory.

benchph1, that's nice to hear!!! anong PSU kinuha mo? You made a nice move in getting a dual fan unit. It sucks in the hot inside air and flushes it out!

HEC is a good brand, but its sulit coz its not even the most expensive, besides, kita mo naman, nakabalot pa yung cable(ATX main), sor quality product talaga. :D

nVidia only makes chipsets. ATI sells its own cards, but they're actually made by Sapphire. And yes, the 9800Pro is the king of the hill in the vidcard world. :D This is my final pc upgrade for the next 2 years hehe :D

tsk tsk. the price of the 9800 pro is worth 4 athlon xp 2500 barton cpu's! my prospect is the gf3 ti-500, scored good in the 3d specs chart. its a bit hard to find but its definitely better than the gf4mx440se. 2nd option is the radeon9200se. or u can sell ur 9600 to me at a lower price:D

whats a good but no so expensive web-cam? u know, the one that doesn't make you like a robot when moving.

mbt, hehehe :D Got paid for a project kasi :D Im just rewarding myself. Besides, while im hit with the PC fever, i might as well go all out. :D Pero im beginning to have second thoughts. Im gonna get a 98P only after i sell my 96P.

krscla, I think youre referring to USB2.0. From what i read its is faster than USB1.1 / 1.2(?). Kaya lang support for it comes after you install SP1 or SP1a (kung winXP).

May Q ako. Can you install WinXP from WinXP? or does it have to be from a freshly fdisked HDD? I just found out that my WInXP copy is a test version and i cant install SP1a!!! Cracks from the internet proved no good.

And more updates....

the good news --> i have regained fan monitoring! By using a simple wire splice, i converted a 3pin fan jack to a 1pin jack (yellow lang) and hooked it up to my Mobo. hayun! gumana! :D

the bad --> I nearly reformatted my PC!!! T*eN4!!! DONT TRUST EVERYTHING YOU READ IN THE INTERNET!!!! I came across these registry tweaks for optimizing XP's memory. Page files, disk cache etc. Pucha! Ayaw mag login!!! Buti na lang nadeskartehan ko using the safe mode login! whew! close one!

PK: try to install from the cd-drives or boot from the cd theres always a china version in full retail copies bootable to optical drives.=)

If theres no problem in your OS, try not to upgrade to Service Packs.Some of my peers installes SP1 and 2 and they sure experience lag in their systems.Just my 2 cents.
