He was supposed to name "oligarchs" last week -- tax cheats included. No word or action since.
imho he should think long and hard before removing the tax perks for BPOs or any similar businesses. To only consider the additional tax revenue (say, 15% to 30%) is being too simplistic. Those businesses have a complex effect on our economy:
-- keeps unemployment down(e.g. BPOs these days hire HS grads if they speak English well enough)
-- along with OFW remittances, provide Pinoys with disposable income for the mall economy, which in turn employs thousands of people
-- that disposable income also enables people to buy condos/homes, propping up the real estate boom(even if it is tapering off now)
-- those people pay taxes, even if at lowered rates. Better than 0% taxes because they're unemployed.
i may be mistaken in this notion, but i'm convinced the only thing keeping PH afloat are OFW remittances and BPOs -- and they are projecting BPOs will surpass the former very soon. Doing anything that will endanger those two would be like killing the golden goose.

Let me see if i am getting the series of events right:
- Mayor Duterte named Mayor Espinosa & son Kerwin as drug lords
- Mayor Espinosa surrenders himself to Bato
- Mayor Espinosa subsequently leaves the White House, checks into hospital
- operatives find guns, bomb making parts, 88m worth of shabu in Mayor Espinosa's house
- Mayor Espinosa leaves the hospital, reassumes office in Albuera
Parang me mali![]()
Thats not tax avoidance (where one purposefully manipulates the books in order to pay lower taxes). What BPOs have are tax perks/incentives. Usually foreign investors are enticed to setup local businesses by being offered tax perks like lower taxes or tax holidays for a certain period. One reason (among others) Ford Ph closed its Santa Rosa factory was the tax holiday expiring.
eh yun robinson land saka megaworld, may tax perk din ba sila? tayo kasi sila ng tayo ng BPO building parang walang katapusan ang funding nila, sa Mckinley kinuha na nila other side
pag nagpapatayo ka ba ng places for BPO, may tax perks din? how about yun malls na nasa ilalim ng BPOs. these seems to be a trending building design nowadays
Technically tax avoidance is the legal means of paying less taxes, by taking advantage of existing laws/regulations.
Tax evasion is when you break them.
That's about the only thing i remember from 3 units of taxation back in college

Well what do you expect, EJK ang specialty ng Administration.
Kaya nga ang SC eh eto ang ginawa.
SC ‘invites’ PNP, PDEA heads to submit complaint vs judges
Mataas ang posibility na walang evidence si bato sa mga to specially dun sa patay na.The Supreme Court has issued another resolution, this time “inviting” Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Isidro Lapeña to submit a complaint-affidavit against the four judges identified by President Rodrigo Duterte as having links to illegal drug trade.
Dela Rosa and Lapeña have seven days to submit a complaint-affidavit or other information against the four judges.
The four judges facing investigation are Exequil Dagala of the Dapa-Socorro, Surigao municipal circuit trial court; Adriano Savillo Iloilo City regional trial court; Domingo Casiple of Kalibo, Aklan RTC; and Antonio Reyes of Baguio City, Benguet RTC.
Last week, the high court said it will treat Duterte’s speech where he identified the judges as a complaint and directed Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea to submit complaint-affidavits against the four judges.
I will not explain tax avoidance anymore OB as I presume you know the difference between tax incentives and corporate taxation.
On your question about IT developers like megaworld, Net group, etc. they are enjoying 5% preferential tax rate. The requirement is they are only allowed to accept PEZA registered companies as tenants.
