test drove the gls se variant yesterday and the ride is definitely comfortable - i asked to tag along when they loaded fuel and we rode over some rough roads and it handled it quite nicely - acceleration was initially as strong as the current pajero but since the pajero has shorter gears since its a five speed then you might feel that it's a little livelier- although i am really nit-picking. suffice to say power is definitely more than sufficient and would satisfy the needs of customers looking into the mid size suv segment.

i liked the weight or feel of the steering also. it feels much tighter and shrper than my uncle's strada. this makes the truck quite nimble and easy to drive.

checked out the 2nd and 3rd row and found the space more than adequate. leg room was surprisingly good - maybe due to the 2inch longer wheelbase compared to the fort. understandably, the 3rd row sits low to the ground so you'll have to stretch your legs since ther's enough space. another neat feature is that the third row folds flat into the floor - not sure if the fort's does this. also -the driver's seat comes with full power adjustments.

aircon was pretty strong though it was overcast - but i think it can still handle the intense heat of the phil. the stereo which i was expecting to be a let down was actually not that bad - even good. it has ipod connectivity direct using a usb cable located in the glove box, bluetooth connectivity for your phone - for handsfree functions and pretty decent power and sound quality - the display is even nicer than the cheesy display used in the strada.

all in all i am very impressed with mitsu's new baby, rather daddy. some things i wish they would have included is a spoiler (would improve the overall profile of the truck). maybe they could have changed the dash layout a bit- to differentiate it with the strada more - though it is actually ver well laid out ergonomically. lastly, maybe add a couple of inches more in overall width (though this is improbable since its based on the strada.

good power, comfortable ride, flexible and roomy interior, classy exterior, and a very good intro price - seems like a very attractive package to me.

We share the same sentiments. Now it’s difficult for me to decide which SUV to buy whether a Fortuner or Montero. But I will just wait until the new facelifted Fortuner is available in the market so I can give it a try as well.

Sir it would be a better choice if you get the montero sport... the fortuner will just give you the same "bumpy" ride as the current fortuner. The Di-D engine of the montero already has a lot of good reputations compared to the D4D of fortuner.

Another good feature of the montero sport is that it has a flat-fold seating configuration which the alterra, fortuner, and everest doesn't have. ^_^

Okay my friend. Thanks for the additional info. I’m already leaning towards the new Montero but I think it is better to wait for the new Fortuner. Besides, I’m not in a hurry buying a new car right now since I still have my dependable Everest. ;-)

saw the montero sport in person and up close kanina. totoo nga, mas maganda siya in person and ayos yung 3rd row seats, buti natutupi ng flat kasi for sure naman di namin magagamit yun eh if ever...

pero mukhang sure na na kukuha dad ko btw, magkakaron daw ng price increase come sept. 15.

hmm ang ayaw ko lang sa higher end model is yung trim. pangit yung color ng leather for me. sana may black or beige na lang...

    -OT-

So what is true? Or are they
saying this and that just to pump up sales?

i think hindi pa nila alam kung kailan ang increase, sabin ng isang s.a. malamang mababawasan yung discount on the introductory price na 70t for the gls, tag price will still be the same. sa union motors saw the gls with backup sensor sa told me na standard na yan sa kanila. yung display unit inside moa parang walang backup sensor. and yung sa se naman daw kasama yung realtime tire guage and backup sensor.
