quick feedback: ride is pretty good, parang riding our 97 pajero.. handles better and easier to manouver. NVH is good too. maybe because it rides high and the tyres are thick kaya you wont feel narin the bumps on the road. sanay din kse ako sa nvh ng civic. L post more feedback in a few days

I got my Montero GLS last Thursday from Citimotors and I am giving my first 72 hour report. I had the Isuzu Trooper CRDI Skyroof edition so that's the basis of my comparison. First the aesthetics, When I saw this at the WTC almost 2 weeks ago, I decided "SOLD". The looks were great having been a Strada fan since the beginning. The three rows were perfect for my family and transferring from the trooper wouldn't be a "downgrade" in terms of size. The spare tire under the third row outside has a hard plastic cover so it has to be retrieved from inside and is an extra detail which upgrades this unit, making theft more difficult. Inside the cabin, colors and design are pleasing to the eye. I like the water repellant covers (and since it poured yesterday, I can attest that yes, they are.), black is sleek and comfort wise, they are OK. There is ample trunk space. With the third row up, 3 golf club bags fit without a problem. If one would have to use the third row, the roof rack could provide a stable option for carrying the luggage. Little details like seat belt retractors and clips helps keep a neat look inside.
Sitting on the driver's seat, the view is ample and satisfactory. I wish there was a color option on the display like the Camry but the red looks futuristic enough. First time I saw a diesel with no glow lamp in the starting console. Citimotors said just wait a few seconds. The JVC stereo attached is interesting because of the Bluetooth option. Maybe it's been a while since I bought a car stereo but this option was great since it allows me to connect my mobile phone and play my music through the car radio and also allows me to talk to anyone I call or who calls me hands free. The LCD display in the center console shows 3 screens against a bright blue background: 1) time and date; 2) FC in li /100km 3) compass. Overall the dashboard and console is a nice mix of plastic in black and a dull metallic silver finish leading to a rugged yet modern look.
So now it's about time I start this SUV and drive. The engine on start purrs. It's quieter than the trooper but when one revs to arond 2000rpm, one hears the louder roar of the engine. Not overpowering, though. Typical of a diesel, I'd say. I've driven the Montero around Daang Hari in Las Pinas and around the village. I first felt the shift from 1st to 2nd gear to be a little loud and slow but then again adjusted my foot pressure. Now, that was better. This SUV will not provide a quick get away. Acceleration response is mild but picks up on the mid to higher gears. Or maybe engine timing is wrong or as I found out my foot pressure had to be adjusted. Steering is light on the hands and is almost like driving the compact SUVs like the CRV or even the Forester. But personally, the clincher is the suspension. It's a nice, easygoing, and comfortable ride. The double wishbone does its job of making one feel like driving a car. My daughter commented that it's almost like riding our Camry without the noise of the engine. Again, comparing to the trooper, it's quieter but a Veracruz it's not. I passed over some 400 m of gravel area and it went quietly and steadily at around 40 kph. Definitely, it's softer than my brother's Fortuner which I drove last month. Overall, the drive is as effortless as a compact SUV but with the size of a larger SUV. It's more comfortable then my trooper, quieter and "lighter" to drive. New cars as I have always experienced will always be good. Only time can tell but as of now, I'm a happy puppy.
The next issue to look at will be the fuel economy but as with a new car, it'll take a couple of full tanks to get a fair assessment.

    Probably magkakaroon ng 2.5L 4x2 and 4x4.

Knowing Mitsu, this will be a good and tough vehicle. The only products of mitsu that suck are their cars (apparently).

nag labas na ang pajero sport in thailand already and this includes the 4x2 2.5 Di-D A/T Sportronic Combo...

IMO, With the hp and torque ratings of the 2.5 that are relatively good, i can say that a 4x4 is possible. Malaysia for example has the 2.5 D4D 4x4 A/T combo for the Fortuner, i think Mitsubishi there wont think twice to cook up something similar.

*ches - thanks for the info... you mean sa edsa near roxas blvd? hehehe... toyota manila bay has met its match then...

*cashewchord- thanks for sharing your experience with your monty. im still re-reading it. looking forward to your sequel...

Uy ganda kaya nung Lancer EX! Hehehe! Compared sa mga bagong labas like the Altis na overpriced pa ang 1.8L V nila eh thumbs up pa din ang Lancer kahit 2.0L lang ang nilabas... ^_^

Kung magkakaron ng 2.5 4x4/4x2 version ng Montero Sport then it would really sell like hotcakes like what others say... Lets just hope this year magkaron na! We backed out from buying a montero sport kasi may mga "sabi-sabi" ng mga dealers from citimotors na "may chance" na magkaron ng 2.5L version.
