i believe the weight savings of the 4wd system will translate to better FC. But i do want the add'l features most especially the LSD.

    Thanks in advance.
If you don't go off-roading, wait for the 4x2 2.5L engine (good power with good fuel consumption). Rumor has it that it's coming out before the end of the year with a price of about 1.1-1.2M.

I'm sure Mitsu won't confirm this just like when I asked them if there's going to be a 3.2L engined strada (2.5 tuloy nakuha ko).

i dont think the 2.5L variant (if ever there's one coming out) would be a good idea... i own a 2.5L 4x2 fortuner and i really feel its under powered... should have gotten the 3.0 variant... now considering the montero sport is heavier than the fortuner, coming out with a 2.5L variant (considering the power to weight ratio) wouldn't be a really good idea... im not really good in computations and im not sure if that's how it works, but im just imagining a driving a 2.5L fortuner with added weight... that will most likely be the case for a 2.5L montero... just correct me if im wrong...

Thanks! Very well said! The only reason why I'm considering the new montero is because of the road conditions here and because of the flash floods which happens every so often now a days. Hindi maiwasan na hindi lumusong especially when you come from QC to MLA. Dual purpose na rin if it can be use for everyday car, if comfort is not so bad. anyway i will try to test drive it and compare to other suv before deciding. thanks again.

Yes you are wrong on this.. your 2.5L 4x2 fortuner is only 102PS non intercooler with 260 of torque.. while the 2.5L of mitsubishi Montero is 136PS with 314 of torque. if you compare this figure to your fortuner specially the torque.. the torque is the fulling capacity of the vehicle..

agree with sir alainroyce, you cant compare both mitsu 4d56 and toyota 2.5. even if they have the same displacement, they are still not the same in many ways. its the old numbers comparison. the old 4d56 is just too underpowered for a pajero. but the crdi 4d56 has much power to brag. i read one post here that a strada 4d56 owner tried to race his car with sedans like corollas but still the strada won 2.5 mitsu has more torque than 2.5 toyota so no race, the 4d56 still wins peace out

hi guys. im new to the group, even forums for that matter. you guys inputs were a big help in looking for a ride. getting my company car replaced almost left me with the usual compact sport-ute choices (was this close to getting a forester). wifey insisted on another suv. i'd be okay with the mazda6 or the accord, really.

anyway, i'm settling for the GLS as that's the only budget given. Them variants having same exterior look is really a plus for us getting entry levels. Twas also a good deal at 1.4M. don't buy it when they say they cannot give casa discounts or that the most is free LTO. Get it straight from the plant and you'll get 30k less (of course this will still be coursed through some dealer). or maybe simply because its through my company. anyway that should still help in packing in a good sound system or any other upgrade.

by the way, aside from all the talk on this forum, C! magazine rating for the MS was a big decision boost. they rated the MS 9/10. you'd only find less than about 10% of the local cars available being rated at that.

don't mind the wait boys. 3-4 weeks isn't as bad and i'm sure it'll be all worth it.

If the Engine will be as they say (136hp, 314nm) then the Montero Sport 2.5 D-iD 4x2 will very like change your perspective about it... if it did, mapapabili ka ulit... hehehe...

Please take note that the torque rating is even higher that that of the Isuzu Alterra at 294nm!

I would say that the 2.5 4x2 would make good sales. looking around baguio and manila with the multitude of fortuners around, lets say out of 10 of them, 3 are the 3.0V 4x4s (i can tell by the hood scoop), 4 are the 2.5G 4x2 and 3 are the 2.5G 4x2. there a lot of people getting the 2.5 G 4x2 because they dont need the 4x4 mechanism perhaps or these are people who thought they can afford the Innova but they shelled out a bit more cash and for the fort. I'm pretty sure that MMPC will be tapping on this. Im sure they have their reasons why the 4x2 didnt come as of now.

When is it coming??? my instincts tell me 2nd quarter 2008 probably after the Manila International Motorshow March 2009.

splurnecky, welcome to the thread! looking forward to hear from you soon- especially when you will be getting your ride. and yes, i do agree with you- i believe in the saying "All good things come to those who wait!"

KCboy, there’s not much difference between the ride of the new montero against the car based SUV that you mentioned. For me the only advantage of the car based SUV is that they are easier to maneuver because of their smaller size... In short the Montero is almost a complete package.

ladder frame suvs are more prone to flip over when driven at high speeds, but we are not race car drivers so this shouldnt happen to any of us. i just love my montero sport. can't wait for the new accessories to come out so i can add more stuff to my montero sport.

I think having a 2.5L Diesel in the Montero Sport isnt that bad at all. I wont even call it underpowered since the DI-D 4D56 produces 136ps and I think its enough to propel this SUV.
20 years ago the 4D56 was fitted to the Gen 1 Pajero withi no turbos and produced 70-75ps. It may have been slow and some people complained about it but it was up for the job and can propel the old horse to 100km/h(which is today's speed limit) although it took it a bit long to get there. Bring it off road, and shift it to 4L and it will climb any steep hill. It serves its purpose.

I dont think we need so much horses in an SUV since its not purposely built to go fast. you'll just put your life in danger and more speeding tickets as well. It just so happened that Diesel engines has now caught up with petrol in terms of performance but it doesnt mean we have to make the traditional diesel powered SUV go faster than sedans. Putting an engine capable to carry out the job should be enough and surely it will bring down the price of the car

If you really need a fast way of going from A to B then what you actually need is a sports car.

I'm no fast driver and these are just my thoughts. I could be wrong though

Hi guys. We got our new MS GLS last week. I was looking at the SF and Fort before I decided to get the MS. We were going back and forth between the SF and Fort -not really liking either one until the MS rolled along.

Here's some shots of our MS.

So far the missus is happy with the ride though she at first complained about the engine noise. Our other car is a civic so that was expected.

Thanks for the feedback from the MS owners in the thread that sealed the deal for us!

thanks ianmitsulancer! oo, were in La Union. Black and Silver and choices namin. I loved the look of the silver MS sa catalog so yun kinuha namin. No regrets.

By the way, we did not get any delays sa delivery which seems to be the case sa Manila.

    Congratulations sir.

Jeez, that Monty is quite fast. I ran 160 kph, but a black Montero Sport overtook us like a bullet.
