Hi there.
I'm looking into buying a car. I was originally planning to buy a Mazda 2 but since we just found out that our garage could actually fit a 4.6m car I decided to consider the Mazda 3 as well.
Does anyone here own a Mazda 3 Maxx or planning to buy one?
How is it?
I haven't seen the actual unit yet but the one that my Sales Attendant (Mazda Alabang) offered me was the Mazda 3 Maxx AT model.
She quoted me for 875K (899K Total Pice = - 49k discount + 20k Mags + 5k TPL)
She also mentioned that it only has a 4-Speed AT (I thought all Skyactiv's had the 6-Speed AT already?)
And then I asked if the Mags were optional, she mentioned that they weren't but she was insisting on it since the stock mags were just steel hubcaps.
Also though I haven't seen the unit I'm pretty sure this doesn't come with MZD Connect Touchscreen Display.
I'm thinking this isn't a good deal yet. But a Mazda 3 for less than 900k is a bargain IMO.
Can anyone recommend a good dealer? Or offer suggestions/comments?
TIA!
Thanks sir crosswind!
If that's the case it's still a pretty good engine if I'm not mistaken. But I do prefer the newer 6-speed one from having test driven it.
I'd get the 2.0 in a heartbeat if I had the budget.
But yeah, my main problem is my budget which I can only stretch to 850k. I'll be paying on cash basis. So the Mazda 3 Maxx without the 20k mags just about fits my budget.
In your opinion which would be the best to get among these 3?
Mazda 2 V Sedan
Mazda 2 V Hatch
Mazda 3 Maxx
I am also considering the Lancer EX and Corolla Altis as they both fit the same size bracket and have 1.6L engines as well but they don't have the 3 years Yojin that Mazda has so that's a win for mazda.
If you can bear the arduous task of backreading, you might find the answers you're looking for. A wealth of info has already been shared about the various models of our M3 it would be hard for any to condense it into a single post. Good luck.

I'm doing that right now actually. Been reading for the past 2 hours or so. I've gone through a hundred pages at least since I'm already at around page 672. :D
found some helpful insights. and right now I'm leaning towards the Mazda 3 Maxx. I'd still want to go get the new 1.5 or 2.0 though if I'm not limited by my budget.
i own an MZR Mazda 3 (2nd gen) and i'd say that it is still a very capable car, it has the same engine and transmission as the car you are eyeing
i won't compare it with skyactiv as it would be unfair, they are technologies that are several generations apart
i remembered myself saying before that Kodo Mz3 Maxx is a good value proposition, i still think it is but if (and only if):
- you are offered a really good discount
- you are considering a subcompact and Mz3 Maxx undercuts its price
- that is all the money you can shell out
875k is not a very good offer imho, i remembered before that someone from this group was offered a 60k (or higher - with mag wheels i think) cash discount. maxx was newly offered back then, i'm thinking it should now go for as low as 820k cash
any chance you could loan the remaining 100k? if you'll use the car often (around 20k km a year) and mostly light traffic and highway runs, you'll end up shelling out roughly the same amount in 4 to 5 years time due to FC difference
Thanks for your suggestion.
I took account the fuel costs as well as I was already familiar with the fuel costs of the 1.6 AT from a friend who owns a last gen mz3. I've thought about taking a loan as well but that will add to costs and headaches in the future as well.
Will mostly be using it on a 40km route back and forth from my house to the office and will mostly be within the confines of SLEX. That amounts to more or less than 10k km a year and I'm also just a few blocks from a petron and shell that up to this day sells their fuels cheaper than most other gas stations I've visited (around 36 to 39 pesos). Some of my toll fee and fuel costs will also be covered by the company so I didn't mind the fuel consumption that much. But of course better FC won't hurt. My co-employee has the mz3 with the new skyactiv engine and she averages around 10km/l with worse traffic than I have to go through.
I also did think it wasn't a good deal yet and that the price should have been less than 850k for everything as you mentioned. I will try to negotiate with my SA to lower it a bit more. If not then I'll weigh in the option of taking a loan and if that doesn't pan out, I'll go get myself an altis or a lancer.
Para sa akin, di siya sulit. May reputation ang MZR na malakas sa gas and 4-speed tranny doesn't help. Tapos bare pa yung model. SkyActiv and the 6-speed AT works as advertised, I get 12-14km/l average (1.5l Mz2).
May time pa naman na mag-ipon kasi may waitlist naman. Or loan mo yung sobra.
Cash buyers aren't generally given huge discounts or lots of freebies because SA's don't earn as much from them compared to those who get financing. I think it's possible to give 90% DP then get the remaining 10% financed for you to get a 1.5V. Or save up a bit more in order to afford a 1.5V. I've no experience with the previous generation but I would imagine that Skyactiv would be a world of difference.
For 100k more you'd be getting Skyactiv technology, infotainment system, mags, etc, etc, etc.
My suggestion is to go with Skyactiv V as you will certainly use the car for years. (and more importantly iwas regrets)![]()
Thank you for all your suggestions. I'm really wanting the Mz3 Skyactiv V ever since I laid eyes on it since it was launched back in 2014. It's just the prospect of a sub 900k mazda 3 that lured me to the maxx.
Maybe if the maxx went sub 800k, I'd go get it but I'm pretty sure that won't happen.
I'll try to maybe workout a financing deal of 90% DP + 10% Financing as suggested.
If it doesn't work out I'll try to maybe get a relatively new and mint condition second hand one that's still under Yojin3.
Wish me luck.
The Maxx isn't a bad choice, especially if you have another car. The 4AT is just enough for city driving & has enough power. The MZR maybe an old engine but it's proven reliable and will be easier to maintain than the 1.5 Direct Injection Skyactiv in the long run. Also, the it has the same Skyactiv Body which is lighter than the old body, making it easier for the MZR to haul. I get a 8-12 kms/ltr depending on the traffic. On the highway, it can easily get 12-15 km/l. But yeah, the 100k difference isn't worth it as it doesnt come with foglamps, the touchscreen, leather steering wheel & the rotary knob aircon controls. Just get the stock steel wheels & replace it yourself.
Remember, the Mazda 3 is a compact sedan and it's built for the city. And here in the Metro, you can barely use the 5th & 6th gears. The new skyactiv 1.5L engine is slightly smoother but not necessarily powerful than the old 1.6L. If you already own an diesel SUV or pick-up, the Mazda 3 Maxx is the better choice than the 1.5L. It's cheaper, easier to maintain & has the same handling & looks, just get a foglamps.![]()
I'll PM you the details.
Yes that's what my friend who owns a last gen Mz3 also mentioned that the MZR is a good engine and reliable. It still runs pretty well until now so I believe him.
We do have an Isuzu Sportivo and MU-X but they're mostly used by my dad and brother so I really need one for my personal and work use. But I can use those If I have to go far and carry a lot of passengers or cargo.
I basically need a car that's presentable and suitable to meet with clients and basically just take me from home to work and back. I don't mind not having the foglamps nor the leather trimmings and knobs.
I saw the Mags the SA offered as well as the stock hubcaps from an online ad posting. And I actually prefer the stock ones. Of course I'd still like to replace them but not like the ones my SA is offering.
The touchscreen's the main thing that I would really miss or want but the GPS and Navi feature is not supported here so I guess it's still just a glorified touchscreen display. I've been more of a waze user anyways even though our other cars have GPS and Navigation. The experience of that touch infotainment system though really is something out of P2 million+ cars but I'll still be able to live without it.
I'll try to negotiate a better deal with my SA. She gave me the finance option and I thought it was a really bad waste of money. They only allowed 70% DP + 7k+/month for 5 years. So that's around 1.2m already if you tally. I'd go get the R variant instead with that amount.
