A few thousands difference is still worth it IMO. Achilles for my size is around 3.5k, while Advan V701 is 5.5k. So that's roughly 8k difference for a set. If the tires last 2 years, then I spent 4k per year for better tires and peace of mind. To each his own of course - after all it's your money, your car, your safety.

Good thing you did not hit the wall when you slid and spun. That was a close save there. In what condition were your tires at the time?

Agree about the safety aspect. Though I sometimes justify the cheaper purchases like the Westlakes with the reason that the car is pretty much only used in city driving. My father is Taiwanese, grew up with Nankang tires, and swears by their quality. Both the Granvia and Santa Fe now use Nankangs. The Carnival gets Bridgestones though. Lucky bloke. [emoji23]

Just purchased 4 new tires for one of our sedan. Got Forceum brand for 2.2k each, Thailand made, if I am not mistaken. Medyo na distract kasi ako kanina

Got it from a tire shop along P. Tuazon in Cubao.

First time to try this brand, let's see how it will perform.

Around 2.5-3mm remaining tread. Still above the 1.6mm threshold. Actually I was able to run with the same set of tires for almost another year until I sold the car.

So it wasn't really worn past useability. It's typical for cheap tires to drastically suffer in terms of grip as they wear out.

find the right size. wide tires affects/increases fuel consumption.

    shops will sell you anything...

also why AT tires? HT will be quieter, better braking and better fc..

^Agree. Unless you require the added traction afforded by AT tires, HT tires will suffice. They are usually cheaper and quieter too.

IMHO upsizing this much will not cause significant effect to fuel consumption. If original tire size is not available, I don't mind upsizing as long as both sides are of the same size.

Yes, for additional traction lang, I'll just try to find a correct size tomorrow. Yes, some store, they will just sell as long as they can, and if you ask if ok lang ba yun, ok lang ng ok.

Not so serious offroad, but yes, minsan napupunta sa none cemented road na may mga paakyat. Eh 4x2 yung sasakyan ko, minsan dumudulas talaga kahit naka AT kasi my existing tire is AT at rear only, yun yung papalitan ko dahil meron nang visible cracks sa sidewall at 5 years + na yata to, (Cooper Tire)

I've experienced getting stuck with my HT tires on an unpaved road with my 4x2 pickup. It was fine going up the falls, but it rained on the way back and the soil got loose and I had to be towed by my friend with a 4x4 Montero.

So I understand the desire to go for AT tires if you frequently find yourself in loose gravel.

Just came across this June 2018 video on Youtube regarding cheap Chinese tires:

5 Tires You Should NEVER Buy! - YouTube

Hindi rin maganda ang maling pagtitipid.

    ===

    Comment ko re getting stuck:

Yes, AT tires are more appropriate in that situation, but the main reason for getting stuck was the lack of 4wd on the vehicle used. If you had, you might have gotten by fine on road tires. Judging by the pictures, the mud wasn't too deep.
BTW, I have a lifted Hilux Goodyear Wrangler HP AW's. The manufacturer lists it as a 4x4 tire, but by its design, it's just an over sized road tire. They do fine in mud like this.

Yes the MS 4x4 that saved me had HT tires. But that's the point - you can't change a 4x2 car to a 4x4 but you can change HT to AT to somewhat improve traction.

Nakapagpalit na kami ng gulong. Accelera 205/65/15 para kay Innotang namin hahaha. Harap lang pinalitan namin kasi kalbo na talaga. Purchased somewhere in Sta. Rosa yung malapit sa Caltex boundary ng Binan na ata yun. 3k per tire. Libre align, tingga and nitrogen air. Nanghinayang nga ako eh dapat 4 na pinalitan baka naka discount. Maganda naman ride ngayon. Mag 4 years na stock tires namin na Aspec [emoji4] yung hulihan okey pa eh. Pero next na rin palitan [emoji4]

Falkens and Yokohamas, et al are worth 3K more or less dito sa Manila

Low budget yet good quality tires
