    *freespin,

IMHO, a little too much "bling" for me. Also, what are you blocking in the middle of the hood? Anong naka tatak doon? Yung name ng owner?

    hi.

i have a question to sorento owners regarding stenciling of the engine number and chassis number of the sorento for LTO registration purposes.
i was told by a KIA service center that it will take some time because a lot of parts have to be taken down to do this. i just want to verify thru you first if this is right. and what are these parts that need to be pulled down to make way for this task.
is there a simpler way to do this?
thanks for any feedback on this.

That's not true, the chassis number is just on the on the right (passenger) rear wheel and the engine number (CRDI) is just behind the radiator fan... If there will be a bit of problems reaching, it will be the engine number... Other than that, everything is A OK..

    hi gregg_g

thanks for the reply. so does that mean nothing has to be removed for both numbers to be stencilled? i'll try to look for both when i get home today. perhaps, removing the rear wheel will expose the body number while the engine number can be taken from under the car. or is there a need to remove the radiator fan?

For the rear passenger side no need, but for the engine you might take out the plastic covering of the radiator fan, but the guy who stenciled it was able to just fit his arm/hands. Btw, you can check it out from your manual regarding the location of the VIN and engine number.

My case, they stencilled it just once that's when they first did the renewal. Succeeding years, they ask me to do just the emission test and they'll pick up and deliver the papers after.

You don't need to go to the LTO to renew your vehicle. Some subdivisions and villages already have their registration program kagaya sa subdivision ko. LTO officials just arrive monthly sa clubhouse ng subd namin sabay pwede ka na magpa register doon. Nandun na rin yung emissions test pati pagkuha ng insurance.

Very accessible, stress free, fast and organized. You'll barely stay 30 mins there. Ask your subdivision officers if you have such a program and if you don't I advice you implement one.

thanks for the replies, gregg_g, jeanpierre and saberrider.

i live in the las pinas area and our village does not have that program. i guess because ours is just a small subdivision. but i think BF paranaque has it so i'll probably try that next year.

    medyo OT ito.
i was able to have the sorento registered already thru my KIA dealer SA.
pero nagkaproblem nga because they computed for full year registration fees plus TPL plus their service charge (380). i gave them 3920 pesos for this.
when i got the OR from them later, i saw that they just paid 140 pesos for the registration and 860 for the TPL insurance.
i later found out thru the LTO website that the amount we paid in oct 2005 was for a 3 1/2 years registration (short of 110 pesos only and 10-20 pesos for the new 2008 sticker) so i went back to my KIA SA complaining that they should give back the rest of the money that they got from me.

to make a long story short, i was able to get back some of the money (2T). they told me that their corrupt LTO contact pocketed the rest and that they could not get it back. i just let this pass because i was so busy last week.

I bought my Sorento January 2006 but the sticker given was 2005-2007, kasi daw ala pa 2006-2008 stickers. So for 2008, I asked my SA to secure the 2008 sticker for me. I was charged P30.00 for it. Seems like different dealers, different treatment of customers.

good for you dahil honest ang dealer and SA mo.
in my case, it was really obvious that they really intended to keep the rest of the money. kung hindi pa ako nagresearch sa LTO website ay hindi ko malalaman na nabayaran na pala namin yung rehistro for this year. kaya ako naghabol altho medyo may bawas na nga yung naibalik sakin.
well, at least, i know now that i cannot trust them the next time.

parang mali lang ang design ng kia dahil nakatago ang engine and chassis numbers. hindi pa naman ako DIY guy in this area so i really have to have someone next time to take them for me.

i wonder what the LTO stencil guys would do if i go to them and let them stencil it next year. alam kaya nila kung pano kunin ang numbers ng sorento.

hello guys! 1st time here.. Just like to ask you guys some comments of buying a second hand sorento 2006 EX crdi AT 13T km for 950T? is it a good price? At first, sorento was not in my list of buying an SUV. Im choosing between a brand new tucson and captiva but when i saw the sorento, i immediately got interested to this car! Read your forum here and it seems a very nice car

test drive it first and be a little conscious about braking and cornering because it has tendency to dive during braking and be on the boaty side on cornering. if the handling and ride are fine with you and the car's exterior characteristics are in tip-top shape then go for it.
ours is a 2005 LX Ltd model with 40k on the odo already. except for my complaints about the sorento's boaty suspension, i find the sorento very well built.
the engine is very strong and torquey.
