this thread is beginning to become silent once more.

at any rate, i just 'checked-in' our sorento at the casa for 40T kms check.
the service advisor said it will cost around 12t pesos for this particular check because they will replace diff fluid, brake fluid, coolant, transmission oil, fuel filter (which costs about 5t), engine oil, oil filter and air filter.

guys, tanong ko lang, talaga bang dapat palitan ang brake fluid and coolant sa tingin nyo?

and on the fuel filter, they said the 2008 sorento's fuel filter costs less, around 1.6t only. but ours which is 2005 model needs the expensive type (the 5t one). di daw pwede yung cheap type ng later sorento model ang ikabit. would anyone of you have a different opinion about this?

    thanks for any feedback.

correction: they did not replace the transmission oil. they said that the transmission oil in the sorento is for lifetime already and costs a lot (900+ per liter times 8 liters). they will replace that only if the owner requests to do so.

my total bill came up to just 10,400 pesos, not 12t as they initially estimated. all the supplies and parts are reasonable except for that darn fuel filter which costs P4,696.

    labor amounted to P2,810.

So what did they do with the transmission oil? Just checked? If you check our manual, it says, replace * 32k... Regarding the fuel filter, I still can't get it.. the 2005 and 2008 engine are basically the same unless, its the VGT...

yup, they probably just checked it. or maybe not even. dont know for sure as i left the car with them.

as for the fuel filter, they did not say whether the 2008 is the VGT model but they say it has a different design hence a different and, this time, a much cheaper filter.

    Hi Jrln,

You are right, they are not replacing the transmission fluid, contrary to requirement of the manual (maintenance schedule). Also you are correct, for the fuel filter, that its different. But come to think of it, our engine is basically the same... hmmm... Replaced my fuel filter in the 20k, and I will be doing it this 40k also, but for 5k... Cge nalang, basta peace of mind...

Just got a Sorento CRDI '07, may i know the fuel consumption you are getting? I'm only getting 10 km/ liter highway driving. Just want to be sure there is nothing wrong because the publish gas mileage is 35mpg and that is equivalent to 14 km/liter suppose to be.

    Thank you

    Hi Dan,

Congrats, you have made a very credible decision in buying your new trusty Sorento. Frankly, I am only doing 8-9 km/l for the last 2 yrs. Those figures provided are in a controlled environment, meaning, in laboratories only. In reality, its a bit different, where there are several factors like traffic, road condition, driving style etc, etc... But nevertheless, those figures you presented are very much ok...

    Keep on truckin' with Sorento

checked the manual. puro inspect lang ang transmission fluid for normal driving conditions.

for severe driving conditions like always towing a trailer, frequent offroading, etc., need to replace every 40T kms.

hi dan. had the same frustration before when we got our new sorento back in nov 2005. thought of getting 12-14kpl in the highway but the best it gave was 10-10.5 kpl.

my city drive gets 8.5 kpl only.

but i'm still very happy with it considering that my revo consumes a lot more but runs a lot lot slower than the sorie.
even our new honda civic consumes more in the city than the sorento.

I'm wondering if you are experiencing this brake problem. Mine has a drag at the point where the vehicle stops. Kahit very slow like in city driving. Pakang may slide ung brake sa likod na wheels.

I went to Kia and they say normal daw sa Sorento ito because it is heavy. I'm not convinced because my starex is heavy too but it stops smoothly.

I decided to see Goodyear servitek and they say may kalog daw caliper pin but adviced me to see Kia because of warranty.

What do you think? Is this normal?

    Another question,

Are the engines of the 2005 model and 2007 model the same? If yes, how come they have different fuel filters? 2007 costs only 1.5k while the 2005 costs 5k?
