Bang-for-the-buck, very few vehicles can match it.

One downside, however, is that the Sorento easily bruises - body seems to scratch and dent easily (Dang those motorcyles!).

If I were to buy another SUV today, I'll buy myself another Korean-spec Sorento, with VGT.

    Hi Led3belt,

Congratulations, and I am happy to think that there are more satisfied sorento owners... Just a question, what does a solar glass do, because most of the specs of your sorento that you mentioned are similar to mine, except for the moonroof..

Regarding scratches, yes I noticed that, especially with my black sorento. One time, when our help was cleaning our car, she placed the hose over the hood, and after that, scratch marks were there.... damn...

But nevertheless, very happy with my Sorie...

    Keep on truckin...

Sir Gregg, just a quick question, where did you get your Sorie and how much? Would you have someone's number that I can call?

    Thanks

    Hi gregg,

My apologies for the late reply. Arrived home very late last night.

The solar glass is meant to be heat-reflective. I noticed that sunlight feels much less stinging to the skin inside the Sorento than inside my other more-heavily tinted car. It filters out the sun's heat really well.

However, friends who know cars much more than I do advised me to be wary of parts that could breakdown easily because my Sorie is meant for temperate countries like Korea and not for tropical ones like the Philippines. If cars daw kasi are intented for countries like the Philippines, some of the parts are "tropicalized" to suit the higher ambient temperature. It makes sense but I am not sure if it's entirely true.

Are you from Cebu? just look for reje car trading, its in the ads in sunstar, they deal with Korean import cars...

There is also in the istorya.net forum.. just search for sorento..

    Led3belt,

Thanks for the advice, regarding the tropicalized kind parts, that can be true, but checking all visible parts, and comparing it with our local sorento, didn't seem much difference like the radiator which could be different, but is not, its still basically the same.

When Ssangyong 'tropicalized' the MB100, all they changed was the radiator (a bit bigger). Other than that it was the same basic vehicle.

The Sorento may be from Korea but it is also sold in the Middle East and in very hot areas of the United States (Death Valley, anyone?).

Many thanks for the reassuring words, gregg and otep. Now I can put my anxiety on that issue to rest.

gregg, are there any other things that I should be preparing for aside from the schduled PM once the Sorento logged more than 10K?

I checked previous posts and saw your Sorie. I see it's also the TLX variant and your sorie looks really good and butch in black. Actually, I really prefer the black one but practicality got the better of me so I got the silver unit.

Incidentally, when I got my Sorie, I was also offered another unit, a Limited Edition, but colored white. It features Torque-on-Demand (and I think also cruise control) plus OEM step-board, wind breaker, extended bumper, 6-CD changer and 10-speaker system. The price difference between that and my unit is less than 100k. But since I do not like white, I passed it up. Now I am not sure if I made the correct decision because of my bias against white vehicles.

The torque on demand system is a permanent 4x4 system with a low range setting. The part-time system is said to be more economical in terms of fuel economy and wear and tear (due to less moving parts).

If it's any comfort, naputukan na ko ng Hankook. And I wasn't even driving the vehicle. Nakaupo lang ako sa labas (after driving through Quezon Avenue rush hour).

Biglang bumitaw yung sidewall. Ibang klase nga, eh. hehehe. Slow leak lang, naitakbo ko pa pauwi (nasa bahay ako ng kaibigan ko that time).

Mag kapareho ba tayo ng "imported" version na sorento? Got mine sa gray market of a friend for only P900k w/o insurance less than 200 kilometers on the odo.

There are trim and detail differences but it's basically the same car.

Walang rear foglamps ang local, wala din heated seats, cruise control.

JVC ang local HU the last time I checked.

Yung 4x4 ng local, may 4x2 setting.

Yours also have traction control? Only way to find out is if you have a traction control box. 145bhp TLX models have been out since 2003. I've been driving one during my educational missions in Uzbekistan years ago. Lampa ang Toyota Prado diesel.

May mga pagkakaiba sa unit ko. Gaya ng aircon, conventional type pa rin sa unit ko, my HU unit is Alpine, may steering control unit ko for audio and phone. At may sunroof din. Unit mo ba may 3rd row seat din same with gregg_g and led3belt? Welcome to the club. I'm confident that you'll enjoy driving your Sorie gaya namin

He he he...mahal pa naman nyan.
