Engine in Sorento's CRDi and Hyundai Starex is not quite the same. Hyundai produce a lower version of the engine to fit in the Kia. Rated output of Starex CRDi is 145ps while Sorento 's 140ps. Starex's CRDi uses steel timing belts for lower maintenance while Sorento still uses the standard belts. There may still be some things different which are too technical to discuss. But definitely Hyundai will make their enine with better quality as Kia is suppose to be the lower brand.

Details aside, its still the same 4d56-derived CRDi engine.

Just like the engine in the W123 300D and the MB100 2.9, they may seem different but despite all the evolution 30 years has made on it, the hard parts remain the same.

I doubt it if Hyundai will intentionally make a 'lower quality' engine for Kia. There may be cost and packaging considerations. But intentional 'quality lowering'?

I think we cannot go away with CRDI engines cause this is now the mainstream, the previous diesel engines are being phase out now.. just look at starex, innova, hi-lux, and others in the market...

You're right, in fact one particular model, the Hyundai Tucson and the New Kia Sportage has the same engine, and they share many similar parts.

Of which will translate to a more expensive Diesel. I really think Philippines should start to be serious about this pollution issue kasi nothing has been done to fight against poor quality of air. Puro in writing lang. A tsikoteer even posted an article here before about how it is in INDIA, where diesel-powered vehicles are just everywhere, and how people ultimately suffered in the end because of poor health. But I guess, health is not on GMA's priority list since she even reduced the budget for the Department of Health and tried to privatize some of the state-owned hospitals.

OT: Ang problema lang kasi, kung walang nagrereklamo, hindi naman gawan ng action ng gobyerno. Wala ding mangyayari nito. Even the Department of Health na dapat siyang nagde-dissiminate about how bad the fumes are, wala man lang pakialam kasi walang nagrereklamo. Baka binulsa na naman ang pera ng Department at pagkatapos ng term niya, magpapagawa na siya ng sariling hospital(kagaya ng naging Undersecretary of Health na si Dr. Gloria of DIGOS,DVO SUR sa term ni ERAP na taga amin).He he he!

When will they ever learn to be serious about things. Parang pinaglalaruan lang ng gobyerno ang sambayanan. At least na lang sana, maski walang pera pero malinis na lang ang hangin. Pero wala talagang nagagawa ang gobyerno on either of them, sa pera man o sa cleanliness ng hangin. In short, I-N-U-T-I-L!

After reading the 14 pages here, getting all the positive & negative issues, seeing the pictures, the specs, the details, the price, the feedbacks,,,,

I'm finally convinced that this will be next vehicle that I would buy.












Now, where is the nearest Lotto outlet? :D

My dad rode in one yesterday. Absolutely loved the Sorento!
