May ads last Wed sa Phil.

He should bring it back to his dealer and let them check it. Auto lock normally activates at 40KPH sa unit ko and there is no alarm installed in my unit too.

Sabi pa #70 clear tint is the top of the line tint ng V-COOL kaya yon pinili ko and cost me over 6K pa naman just the front. Maganda naman ang workmanship since full tint gawa nila at walang joints.

    Good day sirs,

I've been a fan of this thread for a long time now. I will be getting my Diesel Sorento in a couple of days and I was told by the sales agent that there is no need for a 1000km check-up/service for new Sorentos. Does this mean there's no "break-in" period needed? I'd like to know for sure as I'm planning on taking it to baguio this weekend if there really is no need to back off on the revs.

    Thanks!

    hi, short!

    congrats on your new ride!
we also did not have a 1000km check on our sorento when we got ours last year but we kept our speed to less than 120kph until we had it serviced for 5000kms.

anong model kukunin mo? pls give feedback on the ride and your first impressions.
for me, may feeling kasi ako na boaty ride sa sorento that's why i asked arb about new shocks. pero wala pa kame budget for that. hehe.

    Thanks jrln!

I'm getting the base LX Sorento only. It's A/T and has upgraded power side mirrors and power antenna with a couple of chrome trim. First impression during the test drive, it felt really floaty. Suspension seemed to be on the extra soft side, quite the opposite of our gu patrol which is on the stiff side. Engine is very responsive though.

I noticed the delivery date on the unit i'm getting and it said march 2006 i think. This means it's been with the dealer for a couple of months already. Isn't it that fluid changes need to be made every 5000kms or 6(?) months whichever comes first? This is what i noticed with our patrol.

First thing to be upgraded for me will have to be the headunit(Jensen).

ung parang mga TJMor ARB? Im planning to buy sana kaso wala naman sa arb or tjm.

If you mean oil change, yes it's every 5000kms. I think most of the Sorento owners did not have that 1000Kms service though sa warranty certificate na mention sya. As for the break in period, I took it easy for the first 1500Kms.

Locally, haven't seen pa. I also wanted to see how the Sorento will look like with all these special bumpers installed. Sa mga pictures from abroad kasi, mukhang astig naman like yong isang Sorento offroader picture sa picture gallery ko.

Transport from factory to dealer can take time. To give you an idea, the MB100 I drive has a build date of around October-November 1996. But it was acquired, mid-1997. There's really not much wear and tear on the units since they just spend the time parked at the factory lot awaiting shipment.

Where did you see the date? Kia build dates are on the lower corner of the driver's side windshield. There is a date and time stamped. I did not check the shipping tag (white) on the Picanto. The people at the dealership were kind enough to remove the tag and store it in the owner's manual. Once the unit is shipped, the tag is virtually useless. Kinda like wearing a shirt with the store tags still attached.

    Otep,

The sticker I saw was on the upper left corner of the windshield. I think it says "delivery date" and hand written beside it is March 4, 2006. Below it is "inspected by" then the signiture of the person.

I'd like to get your opinion regarding the "break-in" period since you also drive a diesel. The agent insists that there is no "break-in" for the Sorento and it's ok for me to take it on my trip to baguio on the weekend. It says though in the manual that: "no special break-in period is needed. By following a few simple precautions for the first 1000kms you may add to the performance, economy, and life of the vehicle."
    Then the usual:
    1) do not race the engine( impossible if you're going up to baguio)
2)Do not maintain a single speed for long periods of time... varying engine speed is needed to properly break-in the engine.
    3) Avoid hard stops...
    4) Avoid full throttle starts

Funny how the manual says there's no special break-in period but enumerates the things you have to do. Might as well follow the manual rather the the agent.

    Horsepower,

Nope, it's not the VGT yet. No news from the dealer yet.

    Jeanpierre,

Thanks for the advice, I will do the same as you did.

    Thanks guys.

    Hi guys,

My sorento is now a month old, just had my 1k km PMS. So far so good. Ride now is less stiff and less bumpy. Not sure about the mileage but i would say around 10km/l. At first i was considering changing the shock absorbers but then the stiffness went away, and now i'm not so sure. i'm also not sure if installing OME will help. will it? We are 101% satisfied with our ride! Infact my wife now doesn't complain if i ask her to drive(before she always makes excuses), and she only uses the old car if i'm driving the sorento.

Hi Guys, I will be a proud new owner of a Red EX Sorento in a couple days time. Just like to know if 1k PMS is mandatory. My sales agent says that for diesel version the first PMS is 5k

Yes, you can use it to Baguio this weekend. Just don't push it so hard (e.g. riding the redline all the way to the top).

Thanks Otep, as it turns out, my trip was cancelled due to the typhoon passsing through northern and central luzon. I brought it to Batangas last saturday though. I was impressed by the auto tranny and engine combination. A very satisfied owner here!
