rodski & generic boy, thanks for the info. We'll have the starter motor and the magnetic inductor checked.

    rodski,

umiilaw ba ung glow plug light sa dash bago mo istart ung makina?

    hayward,

i think it has no relation. that also happened to me when my battery was weakening. i just replaced the batt and the problem was gone. do a simple test, when it won't start after running for an hour, borrow your friend's car battery (presumably newer than yours) and use it to start your engine, if it still makes the clicking sound then at least the problem is not with your battery.

    Ericmm,

No problem sa SLEX and NLEX. Nasita ako minsan ng MMDA sa EDSA Balintawak before turning right to NLEX. Lumusot naman nung sinabing kong stock yung roof rack.

    Hello Guys,

Umandar na yung carnival ko!!!!!! It was the buttom magnetic switch on the injection pump that did the damage. The piston of the magnetic switch was stuck at the in position so no fuel will flow. When the piston was manually popped up and reinstalled the car started. We got the idea at a diesel calibration shop. We were looking for the part and they said that even if the switch is dead, the engine will start. The important thing is that the top magnetic switch must be in good working order. So the mechanic went back and installed the switch and walah!!!!! One click start agad.

The problem is this part is not available locally. It comes with the fuel injector system assembly at a cost of 170K. So guys when you encounter this problem think about the magnetic switches.

I plan to have this fixed when the car is moving on its own power. This thing will happen again so to be safe. short distances muna until we resolve this problem.

Ill give you the details of the total repair cost as soon as I have it.

    tnx

Glad to hear that your Carnival is running again, but wow, P170,000 Pang-downpayment na sa bagong sedan yon. Sigh.

What's the mileage on your Carnival by the way, Rodski? Also, did the mechanic give any theories as to how the piston of the magnetic switch got stuck in the on position? Normal wear and tear lang ba ito?

    Mikey,

The car is 71K kms. OK pa yung timing belt but one bearing was noisy. Sa oil pump walang problema but we replace the guides bukas na kasi. Yung mga idler bearing sa fan belt ang maingay which we replaced. I thought kasi the noise is coming from the oil pump pero hindi pala.

Be that as it may, mahina na ang hatak since 4 months ago. If you will recall akala ko air in the fuel system. Pero mukhang yung switch ang cause probably half way close na siya. So kulang ang fuel sa low RPM. Pag hataw parang normal. It so happen na totally nagclose siya during the repair. Dapat fully deployed siya so that fuel starvation will not occur at low RPM.

I hope marisolve ito sa calibration shop baka may parts sila para hindi maulit ang pag stuck up ng switch. I use biodiesel for two years na. yung una sa bioexcedd pero ngayon B5 na ako.

    tnx

We went to tagaytay yesterday using olive and she was running smoothly and balik ang low end torque. Super carnival ulit. As for the magnetic switch, I have to research this part to solve the stuck pin mystery.

No vibration because the fix yung engine support. Lahat ng clutch system pinalinis at lubricated so lumabot ulit ang clutch. timing is perfect so smooth na smooth. P16K ang parts. Labor around 6.5K

I'll post the prices and parts later. I'll also download the picture of the magnetic switch.

    tnx

Here is the picture of the magnetic switch. This is located at the bottom of the fuel injector with a horizontal orientation.

As of now this switch does not react to any electrical voltage. So I am assuming this is busted unless there are experts in the field of diesel fuel injection systems.

    how big is the switch?

The switch is about 3 inches long (including the piston) and the diameter is about 1 inch. Access to this switch is to snake your hand from the bottom (front) of the car to reach the lower right hand side of the injector. It would take an acrobat to reach the switch. You have to do it when the engine is cool because the radiator will singe your arms.

Upon researching I think the switch is ok. This has a natural magnet becasue when you press the piston it will pop out slowly. Applying pure 12vdc on the switch will not work. A pulse would reverse the magnets polarity and suck the piston in. This happens when you switch off the engine. Then the natural magnet will push out the piston ready for start condition.

Now the investigation is pointing towards how the piston got stuck.

I think that switch's natural state is 'OFF' to prevent fuel from entering the pump. You need a current to turn it 'ON' to allow fuel to flow in. It's used as a fuel cut-off. Unlike the old diesel engines, which they starve of air to shut it down, newer ones simply cut off fuel flow. This makes for a quicker and surer stop than the old stangle-the-engine-'til-it-shuts-down.

The magnetic switch thing is interesting. My carnival is already at the 122,500 kms mark and no major problem has come up yet. Hope the cause of the switch getting stuck will be discovered, maybe it can be prevented from happening.

Anybody here on the same or greater odo reading? What problems are to be expected?

OK here is my theory why the piston got stuck.

I few months ago while going to Calamba I extened my fuel to below 1/4 almost empty. After paying the toll I noticed na humina ang power ni olive. At first I thought clutch. I think medyo nag stuck na yung piston pero may fuel pang dumadaan. Inital diagnose is air in the fuel system.

Fast forward to the last week before the timing and oil pump repair. Mahina na talaga ang hatak ni olive. So after new year pinaservice ko na sa kaibigan na mechanic ni dad. During the course of the repair, the engine was tilted causing the piston to be stuck. So after installing the parts ang running on for 30 mins namatay yung engine.
    Fully retracted na ang piston.

So when the magnetic switch was opened the piston is stuck inside the magnet. Tinaktak at lumabas na kaunti tapos hinila. then they lubicated it and the piston started to move in and out smoothly. Pag kabit nagstart at gumanda ang hatak.

The only way the piston will get stuck is when dirt gets in between the piston and the magnet's wall wedging itself and causing the piston to be stuck. Dirt must come from the diesel fuel. I use bioactive ng seaoil and occasionally load sa shell. Medyo malayo ang sea oil sucat sa las pinas. Bago lang yung fuel filter ko replaced last May 05.

So always use biodiesel and regularly replace the fuel filter and don't play russian roulette with the fuel gage. pag below 1/4 pa gas ka na.

    tnx
