August 23rd, 2005 01:28 AM #481Di ko naman sinasabi na carnap ang mga gen2 carnivals here. It's just quite unusual for anyone to import brand new. Imagine mo, Sept 2001 ang production date as per Lensio, tapos registered 2001 dito sa Pinas? Normally, those that are brought in here are several years old na in the country of origin. Unless Lensio can also check the status of such vehicle via the VIN kung carnap ba siya o hindi?
My basis naman kasi is my uncle in law who is partnered with a Korean, bringing in all kinds of Kias except Sorrentos. Yung mga sorrentos that are being sold here are 2003-2004 models. In the internet, the resale value nito $18,000 more or less. So how come these units that are top of the line being sold for only 850-950K? Tapos top of the line na walang original key and keyless remote? According to the korean partner, there are 2,000 reported carnapped sorrentos since middle of last year. Out of the 2,000, it is estimated that 50% is sold in Russia, 30% in Vietnam, and 20% here. Kung gusto daw nila, they can buy 1 year old or less sorrentos for 500K from the syndicate. Pero ayaw nila, karma daw. That's why may mga sorrentos binebenta dito na as low as 2,500 km pa lang ang odometer reading.
But thats for the sorrento. Sa Carnival, wala akong balita. Wala naman sinabi ang uncle in law ko, but they bring in gen1 carnivals, very occasional gen2 carnivals.

P500 K FOR A 1 YEAR OLD SORRENTO? elibs ako sa ethics ng uncle mo, karma or no karma. papost naman contact number nung sindikato,... KIDDING!
i think there are importers of brand new gray market units. i'll mention standout in new manila which brings in about 30 starexes a month and concept cars also in qc, who is diesoline's dealer and and as of last week had a crdi carnival for P1.1M and 2 sorrentos for P1.2M each. lensio, totoybato, magkano ba dyan sa korea ang mga unit na ito?
i think my unit was brought in brand new if it was manufactured in 2001 and also registered in same year. medyo ang bilis nga, but not impossible for it to be released september, imported and registered here by october 2001 (xdd-608 ang plaka). the whole timeline for that is just 2 weeks assuming it was shipped out in 3 days after factory release, 1 week for transit and, just 3 days for processing if it was passed through the Bureau of Customs One Stop Shop where you pay duties, taxes and LTO registration in just one transaction.
a friend of mine was skeptical about my carnival for being korean made. gave him a short ride earlier complete with dvd showing of bourne supremacy on our portable player. had to kick him out so i could go home. now, he's thinking about getting his deposit back for the fortuner and looking at the sorrento.

who distributes thule products there sa manila? may name and number kayo? i would like to ask them re the carriers sana. may ladder rin sila sa back? anyone has roof racks installed? paano nyo ina-access ito?
sana hindi ako magsisi sa gen 1 carnival ko....

lensio, sent you a pm. sana di carnap unit ko. hehe
yup, nakakinis ang depreciation pero as you've guys pointed out, the resale value of the carnival does not reflect the true value of the minivan. without the brand, just by judging by ride comfort, features etc, i think this model would score high.

Thank god for the unfair public perception that leads to rapid depreciation!!! Pasensya na, just relieved the bank admitted liablity for its mistake and will reduce the price after it's appraised. i agreed as long as the appraiser will base his judgment on the state the car was in a week ago and the fact that it's 2 years older than it was first presented. also gave a counter offer of simple 15% refund to end the dispute.
bisoy, just my opinion, P450k for a generation 1 carnival is slightly on the high side compared to others being offered (check my post on page 48) but is definitely within the fair market value range, especially factoring in you're buying from someone you know and the new compressor and you're sure it was "alagang-alaga".
please correct me if i'm wrong, but you haven't mentioned whether it is LS or RS version. there's a world of difference in features, particularly since it is the LS version which has ABS, a must have for our big daddy vehicle.
altec, the P1.2M sorrento i mentioned is brand new, and i assume has more bells and whistles than the local version which is priced similarly. but there is only a 6 month warranty.

Bisoy, personally, kung gen1 lang yan, mahal. Even if you pay more for a gen2, worth it. Especially the side doors and rear tailgate. Yung rear tailgate ng gen1, parang revo ang bumper. Walang rubber strip on the bumper to minimize scratches. The side doors are not equipped with a door ajar lock, so pwede siya mag slide back, delikado. The gen2 side doors, however, when opened, stays locked. You have to press the door handle to disengage the lock so you can slide the door closed, a very good safety feature. 3rd, ang layo ng itsura ng dashboard. Yung gen1, parang yung 1990 na corolla. And th gen1 is mechanical pa ang odometer, while gen2 is already digital.
When I used the roof rack once in Dec 2003, I used a monobloc chair to position the bags on the roof. IMO, wala pa akong nakitang carnival or sedona with ladders installed.
Papunta na ako to get my unit from Kia. Will ask questions before I leave the casa and inform you guys what I find out. I heard from a fellow cebuano who sold his carnival that when his injector got clogged, Kia did not honor the calibration as warranty daw, kasi its not part of the engine and clogging is due to owner's usage, and not reflecting the quality of their vehicle. Uhhm, this smilie is perfect description on my reaction to such comment->

August 23rd, 2005 02:47 PM #490I dont know with the gen1, but the difference between gen2 LS and RS are: 2 front air bags, steering wheel HU power and volume controls, roof rack, spoiler, sunroof and dvd player (on some units only during a promo run), better seat upholstery, fog lamps, ABS, mags (RS uses steel rims and hub caps) 2 tone body color, side view mirror body color. Brand new price difference between LS and RS was between 100-150K, I forgot na.
