September 25th, 2007 01:58 PM #1912with the biodiesel law all diesel sold in the country comes preblended with 1% bd, for additional information pls browse the biodiesel rules thread.
the usual recommended parts supplier are karmelcon and fronte in banawe and goodgear and felson in pasay. you may also want to contact jay castillo for kia carnival parts, he gives reasonable price plus he delivers (though with charge). you can find the contact numbers somewhere in this thread.
and welcome to tsikot

on the biodiesel thread, it's recommended to maintain 0.5 to 1%. in my experience this was insufficient for the carnival. for every 30 liters of diesel, i add a 1.5 liters of bioactiv bought from AM Caparros (around P1400 per 20 liter pail) which brings it to about 6%.. my last opacimeter test score was at 0.58 (2.5 passing) last august. i've tried putting less but it gets smoky after a while.

hi deisoline! i'm afraid that my sedona dec2003 might have the same problem as yours...at first, the steering problem comes & goes but now...talagang maganit if you're in a stationary position...if you're driving na, maganit din if you steer from end to end...but if its just a little turn, it's ok...the steering wheel does not automatically go back to the center... most of the time its leaning a bit to the right but at times to the left
my questions are:
1. is it safe to say that i need to replace the parts that you have replaced because if i go to wheels e rod (where i usually have it serviced), i just know they will tell me to replace a lot of parts?
2. where is goodgear located and do you have a number?
other inputs will be greatly appreciated...hope to hear from you guys..TIA

hi MikeG!
from your description, it looks like you may have the same problem as i did. the only part that really needed replacing was the intermediate shaft. but since they were going to bring down the assembly anyway, i didn't object to the whole service order list they presented. as long as i source the parts myself.
goodgear: coming from magallanes interchange, make a right turn at at the intersection of edsa and pasay taft. the shop is about 300 meters away, under the lrt tracks. phone no. is 8338382. i had three more numbers before but i recently lost my phone. so there...
fronte, their sister store in the banaue area, also has the same items at the same prices but availability of some parts is better with goodgear. 7120864 / 7120919.
goodgear has a mechanic who specializes in korean cars who does work for them. afaik, that mechanic is a freelancer but the people in the shop do recommend him. just ask for the mechanic when you call goodgear, i think his name is chris.
HTH.

After 5 years and over 160,000 kilometers, I finally have to replace my clutch lining. The van sometimes shudders when I move off in first gear, and I'm having the transmission pulled down next week to confirm if the clutch is indeed to blame.

Does anybody know if it is still possible to fix a power window switch if it doesn't work anymore, or does the whole switch assembly have to be replaced? Pumapalya na kasi yung driver side power window switch ko, at walang makuhang replacement ang casa dito sa Pangasinan.

October 10th, 2007 03:45 AM #1919We've had a very bad experience with our '02 Carnival... within four years lang kasi katakot-takot na gastos na inabot namin. I do admit that its a great car in terms of comfort and mas ok ang acceleration compared to starex (we have both
).
There's this one time last year na habang pauwi ako from UST naramdaman ko na biglang humina yung hatak ng sasakyan. I know there's something wrong but I have no time to stop kasi delikado yung lugar. Suddenly after 10kms, kumatok yung engine! And before the car stopped running, the last thing I've heard was the sound of scratching metal parts in the engine.I know the damage was great pero hindi ko alam kung bakit nagkaganon. No choice but to have the car towed hanggang sa bahay - malapit lang from manila to alabang
. To cut the story short, we spent worth 50K for the parts (crankshaft costs 24K - la pa sa goodgear kaya sa casa bumili , connecting rods - 2 ata yung naputol, and others).
This was not the only issue with the Carnival, if for instance maputulan kayo ng alternator belt, for sure papasok siya at kakainin ng timing belt (the covering of the timing belt has no use). Happened to us at slex southbound buti nalang we have the enough momentum na maka-exit sa merville. That same issue happened to us twice only to find out na may prob yung tensioner!
One thing I like about this car is its toughness in terms of collision, I saw a Honda City smashed itself sa nakahintong Kia Carnival. Only the bumper and rear windshield have to be replaced but for the honda, its the engine.

October 10th, 2007 03:53 AM #1920One more thing that sucks its that it also had issues with its air conditioning system. There are times na sobrang ok pero there are times when bigla nalang mawawala yung lamig lalo na pag sobrang stuck sa traffic.
Pambawi lang talaga yung comfort and good handling * high speeds. My record is 180kph with 7 passengers - 05/30/06 bet 2-3am * SLEX southbound.
