op kors! hehehe. isa ka sa mga sumasagot sa tanong ko dati. I realized just now. That i may have caused my own problems on our van. If i remember correctly naumpisa ung mga problema ko sa alternator nung pinalitan na ung orig battery ng 3SM lang yata.

curiously, i searched motolite's website and they are recommending 3SM for the sedona. hmmm

The original battery that the sedona has which is the Rocket brand, pag tiningnan mo sa catalogue list nila, is a compact N100, which means 100amps, or 6smf series. Let me check my files tomorrow at the office.

Atlas and Rocket battery spec sheet states for carnival the MF100L, with the following specs:

Rocket: SMF1000= AH 20hrs 100, AH 5 hrs 80, CCA 870, L-330 W-172, H-232
Atlas: 20hr capacity 100amps, 5hr capacity 80 amps, CCA 900, L-325, W-172, H-200.

To compare, Motolite Gold MF N70/3smf battery has the following specs: AH 75 amps, CCA 565, L-306, W-171, H-202.

Outlast battery N70 AH 90, CCA 400, L-306, W-170, H-230.

There is no MF type 6smf battery, only low maintenance.

Motolite Low maintenance N100/6smf battery has the following specs: AH 105, CCA625, L-420, W- 176, H-190.

Outlast battery N100/6smf AH 120, CCA-530, L-410, W-170, H230.

The length itself of a regular 6smf battery will not fit in the battery space in the carnival or sedona. So you will be forced to install a 3smf battery, which is underpowered both on the AH and CCA. With the newer engines, start up requirements are greater, and that is where the CCA comes in. Based on the OEM battery, mataas ang CCA standard. So if you put a smaller battery, you cause your battery and alternator to work harder.

This is what I learned the hard way with my ex-sedona, and recently learned the hard way also with my innova. Ganun din ang problema. Naghahanap ng mataas na CCA. Buti na lang kasya ang 3smf sa innova, kaya I bought a 3smf standard size rather than a 2smf high CCA compact size na pareho ang presyo. Take note the toyota casa where I am located have shifted to rocket brand for the high CCA requirement of their crdi's, from OEM oriental.

Oh no... I'm using a bosch battery. I'll have to check if it's a 6smf battery.

So this means that the next time I buy a battery, I would have to look for an atlas brand? Is this readily available in most battery shops?

Not necessarily. My point here is to look at the specs so that you will know what the carnival/sedona's engine requirement is as far as the battery is concerned. Obviously, not all batteries are the same. Take a look at the 3smf/n70. Iba iba ang specs niya, yung motorola at yung outlast. Maski sa rocket at atlas, iba ang mga internal specs. With my experience, the 3smf will crank the sedona's engine in the same manner. You don't notice any difference. Unlike with my innova, there was a difference noticed in the cranking performance. The problem with a smaller battery in terms of internal capacity, your alternator may have to work harder, which may have been the culprit in several of our fellow sedona/carnival users who eerily had more than the usual alternator problems that is not as common with other cars.

yeah tama walang maintenance free na 100A. puro low maintenance lang ung nasasalinan ng distilled water.

uhmm... so I'm now thinking that my present battery's underpowered and I want to have it changed to a more suitable, if not the ideal, battery.

Kinakabahan tuloy ako kasi I had an additional 9-inch monitor installed on the vehicle's ceiling so my kids can watch movies without craning their necks when watching through the dashboard DVD player. Nadagdagan pa pala ang load ng alternator!

What can you guys suggest I get? Motolite's more readily available in our subdivision but I don't know what model and specs to ask for...

Ang pinakamagandang brand yata, atlas? Pero kung mahirap hanapin, pwede na din ang motolite excel MF (n70/3smf AH 80, CCA 660)?

I don't want to wait until my alternator gets busted before changing my battery... Besides, I haven't been taking care of the battery thinking it's maintenance-free...

hi guys. our sedona has been using a 3sm motorlite gold bat for the last two years. so far ok naman. had some discharging problems before. but it was solved when casa replacing the IC of the alternator. IC can be replaced without removing the alsternator from the engine. but i did not get the IC from casa. got it in good gear for less than Php500.

just a suggestion. you may want to add some grouding points from your engine to your battery. this will insure a balance of the charging output of your alternator. from past experience. as your car ages, grouding capacity decreases. but off coarse it will only go so far. malaki difference when you use a high amp battery:-)

I just checked the engine compartment today and I noticed that my ATF level's getting low...

Saan kaya maganda magpalagay na gasoline station?

1,500km pa kasi before my next tune-up e. Kaya ipapa-top off ko lang sana. Nasa minimum level na ng 75 degrees after warming the engine up for 2 minutes.

Shell lamuan dati ako nagpapalagay sa accord ko. I'm not very sure if they know how to fill up a carnival kasi.

Ano kayang problema kapag laging naka-on yung check engine indicfator light? kapag umaandar naman, nawawala...

Tapos yung tensioner din sa engine parating nasisira... sakit na ba talaga ng carnival yun?

Would you recommend buying a second hand Carnival or Sedona? 2000-2003 models? I'm planning to get one soon. What price range should I expect if I want units with low mileage, diesel engine with automatic transmission. Can you recommend sellers?

probably a sensor. dalhin mo casa kasi meron silang instrument na ikakabit sa harness ng makina para malaman ung dahilan bat ka nag check engine.

di ko na-encounter yang tensioner na laging nasisira sa 01 carnival namin. San mo pinapagawa? baka mali ang pagkakakabit.

suggest ko sedona na. yep 03-04 model. because most of the problems that plagued the gen1 were solved when the sedona came out. Bihira ang bumili ng gas engine model dito, but from what i observed, sila rin ang bihirang nagkaproblema. kung ikukumpara mo sa mga owners ng diesel engine.
