afaik, the heat comes from a pipe with coolant from the cooling system running thru it. heat radiates from those pipes and the blower directs the hot air to the vents.

ericmm, have the shift cable checked. it might need adjusting. or a replacement.

utakabo, my steering is not fixed yet. the steering lightened up somewhat when i pumped 40psi worth of air into the front tires. i will go down to manila at 2am tomorrow morning. i will be wrestling with that steering wheel down kennon road. destination: either wheels qc or kia pasay.

    Diesoline,

Ingat sa biyahe, bro. I also had to drive my Sedona from Pangasinan to Wheels Q. Ave. last year when a busted steering shaft caused my power steering to conk out, and it was not an enjoyable experience. Paano pa kaya kung kailangan ko i-mavigate ang Kennon na walang power steering --para kang nagmamaneho ng truck

Call me if you encounter any problems and you're in my area.

    Peeps,
Another question. My Carnival is the import one from Korea and I am having a hard time adjusting the headlights because I do not know what is the purpose of each screw in the assembly. There are two adjusting screws in each assembly can anyone tell me what does the outer screw does (the one that is hard to reach) and the other which is the inner. Anybody here can tell me which one is for vertical or horinzontal?

    Again, TIA for the help.

ericmm: generally the screw which is located nearer to the side will control the lateral adjustment while the one at the center(or nearer to the center) will control the vertical adjustment. di ko pa ntsek kung pareho lang sa ride natin kasi hindi ko naman kailangan baguhin pa ang adjustment.

    diesoline,

yup exactly the symptoms i heard prior to bringing it to the casa. supposedly sedonas are out of this issue, being corrected by the plant as told by most dealers ive asked around. in case you want to know, cost me 30+k

kala ko ako lang nagkaproblema sa power steering na yan. inherent problem ito ng carnival i think. di ba dapat kahit me problema sa joints dapat hindi mo mararamdaman, kaya nga hydraulic eh. ended up also replacing the universal joint.

    THE CULPRIT

that's the intermediate shaft and the steering coupling, also known as the upper and lower steering couplings.

The steering intermediate shaft is a significant vehicle safety item that connects the steering column to the steering gear box. The primary function is to transmit torque reliably through angles while dampening noise, vibration and harshness from the driver. Another key function is to enhance occupant safety through the use of energy management features. These help the vehicle conform to government and industry collision safety regulations.
    from timken.com

i had the repairs done at kia new manila (wheels) and all parts were sourced from goodgear.

    replacement of steering couplings: P6,240.00
    2,490 - labor
    1,950 - intermediate shaft
    1,100 - steering coupling
700 - power steering repair kit

since this was a casa, they also suggested that the rack and pinion be overhauled. siempre, yes naman ako... as long as they let me source all the parts needed. payag naman sila.

overhaul of rack and pinion: P 2,610.00
    2,490 - labor
120 - rack and pinion bushing

the right side front wheel bearing also needed to be replaced. i opted to have the left done too even thought that side seemed good yet.

replacement of front wheel hub bearings: P 4,845.00
    1,245 - labor
    3,000 - front wheel bearings (2 sets)
    100 - wheel oil seal (2 sets)
    500 - pressing (machine shop)

on hindsight, it could have been more convenient for me to have the repairs done at kia pasay since it is much nearer to goodgear. they also quoted less for the labor when i made a phone inquiry last week. but i was not sure if kia pasay service will allow me to source parts elsewhere.

mikey177::: driving down kennon road was surprisingly easy. maybe because i've been driving around town in baguio with the heavy steering for a week doing the hatid-sundo school bus run. the steering was ok at highway speeds, the only adjustment i had to make was to make a deliberate effort to center back the steering wheel after making a turn. we left baguio around 230am and my wife and i were in jona's QC main branch at 630am - the first customers for the day.

benchph1::: my unit is the sedona here and so is altec's and mikey177's. looks like this steering issue isn't quite resolved for the sedona yet. the heavy front end of our vehicle seems to be the cause. the new carnival has a lighter GVW kaya i think this will be less of a problem with the newer generation na.

too bad to hear that they charged you 30k over at signet. those casas really make a killing by charging a premium on parts and service. i easily saved around 9k over the parts cost from wheels by sourcing the parts myself. not a bad return with just a phone call, several texts and a little legwork.

pilot::: nothing that we can do about it afaik. adjust na lang ng adjust. ako? i just rely on my cellphone's clock.

diesoline: musta steering problem mo? Does it automatically go back to the center after? did you experience seering vibrations before the repair? at full stop, can you spin the steering with minimal efforts?

All: has anyway tried to improve the illumination of our speedometer gauges?
