Hmmm... I will really have to keep this in mind every time I drive. Actually, isa ko pang kasalanan which I realized shortly after using the Carens - I keep on forgetting to wait for the glow plug indicator light to switch off before turning the ignition. At least, after a few days of doing this, I have finally gotten it into my system to always wait for this indicator to turn off before starting the engine.

Turbo timer is good if you are driving your vehicle at 4000rpm range higher and suddenly you need to stop and turn off the engine...turbo timer helps

say for example at NLEX you are in a hurry running at 4000rpm at 160kph then your office parking area is along NLEX and you park immediately from 160kph and turn off the engine.. in this scenario you need the turbo timer so as not to fry the VGT turbo..

but with the traffic here in the metro surely your vgt have cooled down before you turn off your engine..

well i don't expect you are cruising to SM Megamall parking at 160kph?? nor revving the engine at 4000rpm range while reversing to a parking slot

as sir itlog na pula said.. slowing down the vehicle when you are nearing your destination is enough..cool it 10 - 20 secs (idle) should do it (enough to gather your things and fix yourself and removing your seatblets before you go out).. but if you are running at 1000rpm to 1500rpm and you need to turn off the engine, this will not fry your VGT..

idling the engine for 10 to 20 secs helps in replenishing the hot oil in the VGT cooling pipes

sir meron po yang "beeping sound" when you turn the ignition key to ON, wait for the beeping sound to disappear before starting the engine... this way you are sure that all is set before starting the engine...

WARNING: Cool down turbo before turning off engine after long drives! This is the one and only thing that my bro-in-law told me about the CRDi engines. So, whether I take a long trip or a short one, I always try (minsan nakakalimutan though) to wait for a minute or two before turning the engine off.

While cruising along Congressional Ave. on the way home this afternoon, I spotted a black EX Carens. All of a sudden, it stopped across the new Kia service center, after safely passing it... I guess it was a lady driver looking at the Kia center. Not sure kung babae nga, kasi kelangang nakatingin sa daan. hahahaha

    Hi,

I've been reading up on your thread. I find it interesting and I agree that Carens is another option for a family. You all chose the right vehicle. I have read and heard of good things about your rides.

Now on the turbo timer issue, we at The Strada Club of the Philippines have discussed this time and again. We all know and agree that we need to cool off the turbo prior to shutting down the car. Now, either you get one or not it's really up to the owner. First thing to check is when exactly does your turbo unit kicks in and at what RPM. So if you have been driving in the RPM range where your turbo kicks in, then it will trigger you to slow down below that rpm prior to parking or, wait in the car long enough to have your turbo cool off. Most aftermarket turbo timers just delays the ignition system of the car. In short, it's just part of the "ON" position of the car. But their are some expensive turbo timer, that is really connected to your turbos and can adjust the delay in turning off the car (automatic turbo timer). But that type of system is expensive and harder to install. The common is the manual type in which you set how many minutes it will run after turning the ignition switch to acc or off position.

Thanks sir av8or5 for the added wisdom, to tell you frankly, we dont know or maybe some of us might know at what rpm the turbo kicks in, but as what i have observe parang at around 2k rpm umaandar na ang turbo coz i can hear the whistling sound na eh, but i am not that sure.

Does any carens owners here knows at what rpm the turbo kicks in???

Performance ok. Price of Gas plus mileage, i would have preferred a CRDi except wala pa nung when i got my unit...

The average consumption of the CRDi owners here is my best record on the GAS

I think our turbo starts at 1400 or 1600 rpm for its low rpm thats the time you can here a light whistling sound. and at 2000 rpm (I think this is the high RPM already) our VGT starts to open up more for it to give more power to our unit. This is the main aspect of the VGT. It is to reduce the turbo lag at low engine speed.

O.T. Lady rider nakita ko kanina yun beetle mo sa maspro a. sobra dami mo pinagawa a. ipangcacarshow mo ba yun? and nakausap ko na din si benjie wala pa daw k&n na filter for kia carens available sa kanila. But I like the GT-808 alarm with turbo timer pero 4k ang pricing niya sa akin e. kala ko 3k+lang.

Sorry po medyo OT ng kaunti. Hehehehe.... Nakita mo pala project ko. Yup kasali po sya sa audio competition sa susunod na car show! Kaya nga butas na rin bulsa ko eh. (huhuhuhuhu)

Hingi ka ng discount kay Sir Benjie... Madali naman kausap yun eh.. Sabihin mo magiging suki ka naman nila.

Pero sige just for you I will ask him na rin for a discount for the Carens Group!

"beeping sound"?- di ba para sa seatbelt yun?

anyway, I agree with your observation regarding the necessary cooloing down of our turbo.

ayun! that's a great suggestion! while you're waiting to cool the engine down, you can gather your things and fix yourself up. by the time you're ready, you can turn off the engine.

a couple seconds or a minute or two of caution could spell a lot of difference later on.

Kia center congressional is located between EDSA and Mindanao Avenue.... It should be a new Kia branch with service bay....

When I bought my Carens Oct. 2007, my SA at Kia Novaliches already told me about the upcoming Kia service center sa Congressional... so ito na siguro yun.

Our VGT kicks in at 1500 RPM, you can observe the change is engine power. But after idling for a few seconds, I don't think it still spins at high rev... what drives it to spin is the exhaust gas and when the engine is already in idle (weak exhaust gas), the vgt will also slow down in few seconds because there is no "driving" force anymore and it is impossible for it to spin faster than the exhaust gas for a long time... So I don't understand why we need to wait for 1 minute or more.... few seconds is enough. On the heat standpoint, it doesn't lower the temperature either during idling, hot oil is hot as it is as long as the engine is running

    Sir Robie1210, thank you.

Once makuha ko na yung unit, I'll be going to replace the stock wheels to 17". pero if ever meron ako makita 18" at kayanin ng budget I'll go for that
