We have always been a regular Isuzu customer chief (from the 10-wheeler trucks we buy to the passenger cars we personally use), and one of the main reasons also as to why the better engine is not yet here is "pinapaubos daw ng mga Japon ang over-production ng Ddi-iTEQ engine sa ating mga Pinoy, Malaysians, Vietnamese, Laosians, Indonesians AT matigas daw ulo ng mga Japon natin sa Isuzu Phils. na hanggang ngaun ayaw ibigay ang iTEQ VGS engine."

Yan ay sabi ng iilang taga-IPC....

It's mute and academic, if IPC wants to offer this VGT-engine just like any of its competitors here had done already and continue to do so, the company can do it as well ---- the engine is like just any other mechanical thing.... Besides, if all the other Japanese companies, or say, as an example, the Korean Hyundai and Kia could bring here in the Philippines the Euro-4 adaptable 2.2-litre CRDi-electronic VGT Santa Fe and Sorento, i don't see any reason why a reputable Jap-company like Isuzu can't

Aside from the MB marque, I have been a follower of ISUZU. (trying to sound not too obvious)... and like most of you, I have also wished that ISUZU in the Philippines would step up and give it's rivals a run for their money.

Having said that, I sure wish this "Super Commonrail" engine would be made available here.... (not to mention the smaller brother of the 4JX1-TC and 4JJ1-TC engines the 2.5L 4JK1-TC) I guess time will only tell.

On the side note, it sure is a welcome someone technically knowledgeable like you to be present in forums like this and help those who need guidance in knwoing more their ISUZUs.

hello po mga sir!..magandang umaga po sa lahat, just got question sir, i have a 2008 LS model M/T its has 39k mileage, since lagi po ako wala sa pinas eh lagi ko po naiiwan yung dmax ko po. hindi ko na din po casa maintain, i bring it to rapide for Prevetive maintenance such as change oil, wheel alignment and rotaion. as i remeber po ang napalitan pa lang po s dmax ko po is the front wheel bearings, so far so good pa naman po ang dmax ko. I was just wondering po kung ano pa po ba ang mga dapat kong icheck sa dmax ko for preventive maintenance?..wala pa po ako pyesa pinapalitan eversince i bought it except for the wheel bearings. While i so this site, it enlightens me for many things to do for my dmax. Sa ngyon po eh ok pa po performance nya. I use oil na naka prefer po sa manual. any suggestions sir to what do i need to check that needs prevemtive maintenance and pwede ko na palitan that might be damaged in the near future? what sir po ang mga ginagamit nyo na oil's na would be be very good for the engine?..and how about checking the brakes?..what would i check if do i need to replace it?..next week i'll be going back to philippines and i really miis my dmax..any suggestions po mga sir to check my dmax?..and one thing mga sir, may ma advice po ba kayo sakin sa bed cover?..kasi po i think i need a bed cover already for my kids stuff and evrything..thank you very much po sa lahat..more power to all dmax owners..godbless all.

Chief, just a brief suggestion po:

1. Read the checklist tick box in your DMax preventive maintenance booklet and see what's in there for the 40,000 km odo-reading so you get the idea; and

2. Go to your nearest Isuzu service dealer or centre for the conduct of the maintenance.


As far as the oil is concerned, say engine oil, ask your Isuzu dealer if they have any of these fully-synthetic ones like the Motul Specific CRDi 5W-40, Mobil Delvac 5W-40, and/or Torco SD-5 15W-40; these are the oils i'm getting from my nearest Isuzu service centre.
....Else, if your dealer/ service centre does not carry any of these fully-synths, your best bet would be the factory-recommended semi-synth Isuzu Besco 10W-30 oil.

Request from your local Isuzu centre to thoroughly perform the checkup, preventive maintenance, and repairs if any, granting your DMax had been stored for months.

Real reason why? Coz the "Super Commonrail" aka VGS engine is Euro 4. Bring it here and it'll be spending more time sa CASA than you using it.

IMO, baka they are playing it safe because of what they learned from their experience with 4jx1 Trooper.

Chief, the "mutual is feeling" pala (instead of the "feeling is mutual") ahihi ....Gaya mo alat na rin ako magka-TUNAY na DMax iTEQ VGS para palitan ko na handle ko "hinDMaxsiado"

Maganda naman kasi talaga yang DMax iTEQ VGS Turbo chief, kaya nga highly-regarded ito sa Europe since its introduction in 2007 as the best 4x4 pickup for 2008, 2009 and 2010, at sa Australia naman, as the best midsize 4x4 UTE for 2009 and 2010. In fact, the sales of DMax iTEQ VGS in Australia rose by 43% from 2009 to 2010. It was introduced in Australia late 2008 where no one at that time even knew Isuzu apart from trucks haha!

AND TO TOP IT OF ---- This is the base-model of the hugely production-based Isuzu DMax that landed 1st-place in the Diesel UTE Pickup category lumped under the T1/T2 Class during the 2009 Paris-Dakar Rally.... It was piloted by 5-time Aussie Safari champ Bruce Garland and Japanese-Aussie Harry Suzuki.
Come to think of it that while the others were V6 gasoline and diesel pickups, this DMax iTEQ VGS was by comparison just a slightly-modified 4-inline cylinder 3-litre diesel hehe

Before i forgot, this is the fuel-efficiency runs by the Aussies on the diesel UTE comparo in 4x4 mode over offroad conditions.





One can only surmise why the DMax is the most fuel-efficient of them all based on this comparison ---- maybe it has something to do with how the engines are configured. Take note that amongst all the 3-litre, or even say the 3.2-litre diesels out there, the DMax got the most "rectangularly"-configured engine of them all. "Rectangular" because it got a smaller bore but a longer stroke. And gyroscopically, the rpm of a crankshaft is dependent on the stroke, and a 4-stroke cycle requires 2 revolutions of a crankshaft for every firing sequence (in gasoline engines) or pressure combustion (in diesels). With a longer stroke, the engine does not rev as freely compared to a shorter-stroke, that's why the power is more tractable thus is torquier as it takes more time to go over entirely its powerband.

Bore x stroke:

3.0-litre Toyota Hilux - 96 mm x 103 mm
3.0-litre Ford Ranger - 96 mm x 102 mm
3.2-litre Mitsubishi Strada - 98.5 mm x 105 mm
3.0-litre Isuzu DMax - 95.4 mm x 104.9 mm

The GM Holden Colorado shares the same engine with the DMax until 2011. GM and Isuzu are no longer binded together for the Asian market and VM Motori of Italy is now the developer of diesel engines for GM. For 2012, GM's Chevrolet Colorado is entirely different from the Isuzu RT-50.

Its a pity that the power, fuel efficiency and excellent performance of the 4JJ1-TCX will all be meaningless to us if it ain't going to be released here.

isuzu had actually brought that engine here for test run but it was not published to the public due to fact it was in experimental stage whether or not the engine would last in philippine conditions.. sadly it didnt due to fact that the engine is quite more sophisticated comapre to what we have here and requires a better and cleaner and more refined diesel to make it work without any faults or problems but since the oil companies cant make the diesel finer since the cost would go up and maybe more expensive or would have almost the same pump price as the unleaded would.. since hindi pa pwede dahil our public utilities still depends on diesel being very cheap compare to unleaded... and thus the power we have right now forthe dmax and alterra is just fine... hindi naman mabagal or malulugi sa hatak... kung carera man or fast car ang gusto ko.. id rather buy a civic 2.0 or a nissan 350z or better yet a ferrari...

I don't see any significance for arguments here whether when will be the super commonrail aka VGS variants of Dmax be released in the Phils. As far as i'm concerned the existing ITEQ 4jj1 Ddi engine is doing exceptional on my current 2010 LS pick up when it comes to power and Fuel consumption.

I have to travel close to 120 kms back and forth each day here in Cebu due to my nature of work and I crossed those highest altitude mountain roads in the island w/c is about 7 kms ascending going to the city but no one comes close to me pag humahataw na yung Dmax ko.

Reallisticaly, If you're contented and satisfied with your current ride then it is pointless looking and asking for the VGS engine because the thing is..when doing that it just adds extra cost onto your budget.
It does make sense to me after all. cheers!!!

Chief, punta ka lang sa Banawe st., Quezon City. Diyan lang ako nagpakabit ng bedliner na pre-fabricated na for the DMax. Madami service shops diyan chief.... Basta always lock your DMax's doors each time na mag-inquire ka from one-shop to the other re bedliners hehe

Besides, don't lecture on how good the Ddi-iTEQ is going up a hill whether offroad and onroad.... i have had just as much seat time, perhaps even more than you, driving utility pickups, even say in the mountains of Asturias, Spain and Pyrenees of France....

....AND i dare say, having driven those 4JJ1-TCX VGS Turbo 3-litre DMax's in those countries will make you WANT ONE and question why we haven't got any of these here in Philippines and why Toyota, Nissan, Mitsu, Ford are issuing here in Philippines the same pickups they offer overseas....
....Your 4JJ1-TC Ddi-iTEQ, as well as my 4JH1-TC "TD Intercooler" and 4JJ1-TC Ddi-iTEQ wouldn't even matter when you have finally got the chance to drive or even own one iTEQ VGS series, where you'd be changing your words of wisdom my friend, which i'm afraid is based solely on personal conjectures

Sana nga chief dalhin na dito for 2012 ang iTEQ VGS Turbo KASI may bagong Isuzu "RT-50" na that will eventually replace the DMax. It was recently tested in Chonburi, Thailand and it looks way different than our present-day DMax's. This was related to me by one of my Thai friends
