    Nice trailing adventures there mga Sirs!!

    Mga Sirs, tanong lang po sana. I'm planning to get the Dmax 4x2 LS variant, my preference is yung manual transmission. Ano po yung mga pros and cons between manual and automatic with respect po sa maintenance in the long run, fuel consumption considering the fuel prices sa Pinas, at iba pa. Hindi po ba madali masira pag manual compared to automatic and vice versa? Which one po ang lamang sa dalawa pag practicallity po ang pag-usapan.

    Maraming salamat po. Thanks tsikot.

    P.S. Ang pagagamitan po ay both city driving and pang probinsiya. Thanks po.

    kung practicallity sir sa manual ka na.. mas mura ang manual compared sa automatic. sa fuel consumption naman, matipid tlga ang
    dmax compared sa competition. in my experience with combined city and highway, ung FC ko is around 14-16 k/liter. ung speed ko at that time is maintained at 80-100 kph. pero pag feel ko na gusto ko mabilis around 120-130. nkaka 11k/l ako which is still very good.
    kung alin ang sirain depende naman yan sir. pero mas mahal ang paayos pag automatic. ok na ok din to when it comes sa akyatan. at 1400-3400 rpm hatak pa din cxa kya hindi ka mbbitin sa uphill. complain ko lng siguro ay mtagtag cxa.

    Sir, looks like you're a pilot, Boss Airbus!!

    Sir, some people prefer manual-transmission, while others prefer the automatic ---- i have always liked the manual in my case, even in city-driving and amidst slow traffic.

    Apart from the steering, as the driver, i like the idea that i'm in total control of the car due to the following:

    1. The rev i want/ need before i upshift, especially in ascents (i don't like straining an engine before downshifting, and compensating just by pushing more the acceleration pedal);

    2. The downshifting i need (as i'm the type that shifts actively "mahilig sa rektahan", as i don't like losing transmission oil pressure where in some drivers you hear their trannies "jarring" or vibrating before they shift) ---- meaning momentarily they are losing oil pressure at their trannies;

    3. i prefer engine-breaking (to some degree) in descents, sweep-cornering, and in winding roads where usually i don't apply breaks;

    4. i prefer loading-up my rev by downshifting instead of pressing hard the acceleration each time i make a pass where my transient speed to begin with is quite slow; and

    5. A manual-gear box repair is cheaper than an automatic and in the event that you run out of battery to start your engine, with the manual-transmission, you only need to jump-start it by pushing the car and "jerking" (not jerking off haha! ) your clutch and gear while in motion. Sa ating lenguaje o sa Tagalog, "kadyotin mo", AND WHY NOT! Haha

    This is just so far i can think of.

    Goodluck on your BRAND-SPANKING NEW DMAX!

    I'm an automatic man....It's just my preference. My Alterra 4x4 is automatic.

    Everything said by hinDMaxsaido I agree with totally.

    I have been there and I have done that, and, it was fun and beneficial.

    I will soon be 74 years old, and I now prefer to "ride", rather than "drive". I sometimes even hire a driver.

    So, to summarize, there is no one better between manual or auto. It is a question you must answer yourself....What is your preference.

    My automatic does not give me the control which hinDMaxsaido prefers, but it does give me the comfort and ease which I prefer.

    There is no debate, both trannys are well developed for their purposes by Isuzu.

    Ciao!

    Uncle Nick.

    WOW Unk Nick!!!! You're "LIVING THE LIFE!" ---- How i long that by the time i retire, i'm also having it just like your ways....

    A man ages as fine as a wine, so they say.... and the more a man becomes attractive haha!
    ....Just look at Sean Connery. He ages fine through the years ---- he's even more gorgeous now than when he was the James Bond of the '60's....

    Kind regards.

    Boss Babkalakal, stock rating of 3.0-litre DMax VGS 4JJ1-TCX is 163 metric-hp and 360 Nm torque from 1800 rpm to 2800 rpm. This is actually just a slightly-improved version of the 4-inline cylinder 4JJ1-TC that we have in Philippines, with the addition of a VGT, as Isuzu Motors claim. The 4JJ1-TC standard is a 2004 engine model, while the 4JJ1-TCX is a 2006 issue.

    Depends on how much modifications they do for rally races, e.g. in 2009 Paris-Dakar Rally when the DMax VGS Turbo won 1st-place amongst all diesel pickups or UTE (11th-overall against V6 and V8 diesel and gasoline SUV's like the VW Touareg's and BMW X3's under the T1/T2 class), it was modified to produce about 200 metric-hp and 500 Nm torque that time ---- much like just putting in a RaceChip Pro diesel EFi unit or anything like that where the manual-transmission DMax VGS's 360 Nm stock-torque may reach around 480 Nm.

    Look at how this slightly-modified DMax VGS successfully chugged the sandy mountains of Atacama desert (the driest region on earth) and even pulled-out a Hummer trapped in the soft sands seen at 4:50 to 5:00 min, and kept going and going....Not bad for a 4-cylinder pickup! ;)

    For the 2011 Paris-Dakar Rally, the same Aussie-version DMax VGS Turbo was modified further to produce 250 metric-hp and 630 Nm torque, but the Isuzu team of Bruce Garland and Harry Suzuki was however DNF'd when the team fell and dropped hard in a sand pit compromising the back (a back injury????) of Bruce....

    i really am wishing sir that this DMax VGS Turbo would finally makes it way in the Philippines ---- absolutely and without-a-doubt i would buy one and it will be a keepsake

    As a hindsight, Isuzu Motors doesn't deal much on publicity to sell their products, unlike other brands.... Those who know what diesel is all about, they just naturally head-out to Isuzu showrooms without any introduction needed from Isuzu itself.... It's actually how reputable it is when it comes to trust and product reliability....

    As a matter of fact, the DMax (the non-VGS and the VGS turbo) is one of the underrated pickups in terms of looks (but i like how it looks! ). But when it comes to true 4x4 offroad or "hardcore" performance as they say, the DMax VGS is the best performing amongst all 4x4 midsize diesel pickups....

    And knowing how critical Austrians-Germans are ---- the Germans in particular as they are the Japanese-version of Europe hehe the DMax VGS was awarded the best 4x4 offroad pickup in Europe for 2008, 2009 and 2010 by an Austrian-based offroad magazine ....Besides, the German company Opel has always been importing diesel engines from Isuzu Japan.

    By the way sir, Isuzu Germany and Austria (the source of those photos i've posted recently) is just one-company ;)

    Hay naku Sir i wouldn't hold my breath for the VGS coming anytime soon. While the current dmax i-teq is perfectly fine I kind of understand where you're coming from. This reminds me of 2005 my mom was buying a starex pero locally hari was only offering yung TCI GRX but the big difference was available din naman yun CRDI albeit from the grey market. So then just for the engine alone grey market it was.

    My Father swears by Isuzu. We owned for the longest time a fuego. Yes it was slow and agricultural but heck it would go on forever and never missed a beat. Matipid pa sa krudo. It even ran for a month without water in the radiator without fail. It didn't warp a headgasket or overheat. In our line of work we use quite a few units anti-electric manlifts trucks and they are either Forwards or Canters. While both are in general good workhorses and have their own merits I'll give out no prizes as to which generally are more robust and suffer less downtime.

    Don't you wish sana kasing agresibo ng mga product planners ng Hyundai currently ang nasa Isuzu or maski san pang auto manufacturers. Halos lahat ng vehicle segment meron representative ang Hyundai. pick-up lang ata kulang. hehe

    Yup sir, Isuzu's are in fact great as long as longevity is your main concern. i have been a witness to it couple of times. In our own stable alone ---- both of our 2004 DMax 4JH1-TC and 2003 Crosswind have now amassed over 300,000 km each without any complaints.

    One of our rented service 4x4 UTE here, which is also a DMax 4JH1-TC has now travelled 360,000 km.

    Power produced from the 3.0-litre DMax's 4JH1-TC and the CRDi 4JJ1-TC and the 2.5-litre is actually more than enough, BUT of course one wouldn't mind having to gain more out of an engine, regardless what car brand it is ---- it's human nature

    Not only in marketing sir, Hyundai is definitely up there on top especially when it comes to the middle-class car segment.... Honestly, i think that it is even better than its Japanese competitors in this segment and deserves every international awards given due for the company.

    Hyundai-Kia is now the 2nd-largest Asian car manufacturer next to Toyota Motors. It is now the 4th-largest in the world, and it is also the most cost-efficient car manufacturing company ---- this is the reason why the Santa Fe is reasonablly-priced and yet it comes with an excellent engine, which is actually advance compared to its Japanese contemporaries, and with comfort and safety features unmatched. Then you have the 3.8-litre Hyundai Genesis Coupe costing only around PhP1.8M to PhP2.2 M that is recognised as one of the world's cheapest and fastest cars in the road. The 3.0-litre V6 diesel Veracruz eVGT mid-luxury SUV for its price of only PhP2.80 M would stomp and shame both the 3.2-litre Mitsubishi Pajero (PhP2.75 M) and the 3.0-litre Toyota Prado (PhP3.50 M) in engine performance and price. The Veracruz is in fact also compared against the Lexus RX350 hehe....

    Just a month back sir i was thinking of getting a Hyundai Santa Fe R-eVGT (even now actually ).... The only thing that held me from getting a Santa Fe this time is its auto-tranny.... BUT, if the manual-tranny Santa Fe is only being offered here like in some other countries, it would have been a no-brainer sir.... Sigurado kumuha na ako! But nonetheless, i'm still waiting for it to come here

    How true! from a personal standpoint.

    As for the Sta.Fe sir my mother actually owns a 2009 model. Not the r-VGT yet but so far we have no complaints. I can only imagine what with the newer motor and extra cog in the transmission the improvements will be.

    My father and i also have a preference for the manual variants (not that we altogether eschew A/Ts, in fact currently in our family we no longer have a M/T car) but fact of the matter is M/Ts are not the de facto choice anymore with heavy traffic and also the usually heavier to operate (compared to sedans) clutch pedal of SUVs it is quite understandable why so. Often times manufacturers don't even give us that choice at all. As primarily an urban cruiser and combined with the unavailability of a manual I have no doubt the 6sp AT is up to the task and a little more. Pero who knows nga the montero sport does have a manual option, the fortuner eventually came with a conventional tranny as well albeit only with the smaller engine baka sakali hyundai would follow suit but again I wouldn't hold my breath for that.

    p.s.

    Sir if you are really enamored on having a M/T r-vgt sta.fe I would give a visit to one of the parallel importers here they would only be too glad to help you. Hancars in particular we have a personal experience with them. We brought a millenium starex then a grx crdi starex afterwards. No complaints whatsoever from sales to aftermarket support. They gave us options that would almost make your head spin. From dual rear doors, captains chairs all around even interior color they can take care of that all from the Hyundai factory of course you will have to allot extra time and money to tailor spec your unit but point is it can be done and in a reasonable manner.

    Even our local HARI dealer (Dasma Cavite) has no problem supporting our grey market units for service. They accepted them without hesitation and no extra charges for being grey market. HTH

    OT:

    Galing naman ng tip mo sir! Thank sir HUWAAAW!
    ....Sa Timog Avenue lang yan sir ah, halos malapit na sa Quezon Ave. i browsed thru their website just now and they are big on the Starex pala....

    My in-laws happen to have a 2010 manual-tranny Montysport. i have driven it quite a couple of times and not at all impressed honestly sir. Even their driver describes the Montysport as "parang malaking Crosswind" dahil sa ingay din ng makina haha! ....Nothing at the moment could parallel the Santa Fe amongst all the middle-class 7-seater SUV's.

    By the way sir, going back to the topic, and while having said the above ---- i'm still hoping, however, that the Alterra, this time with the iTEQ VGS engine, does come here finally.... i am betting it would sell better than the current Ddi-iTEQ, nothwithstanding the fact that currently Isuzu is the 5th-best selling car brand here in the Philippines ;)

    Wishful thinking lang naman sir.... Malay natin
