    Good day guys!

I need your advice regarding an Isuzu Dmax that my aunt is interested in buying from a relative din.. My problem is, the Dmax already has a mileage of 214k.. I already discouraged her just because of the mileage pero the thing is, "pay-when-able" siya kaya ang hirap magresist.. kung hindi nga lang ako nakabili ng sasakyan, baka ako pa kukuha just because "pay-when-able" nga.. hehehe

my worry is baka mahirapan ang aunt ko sa maintainance because gamit na masyado yung dmax.. it still runs well and is still relatively fuel-efficient naman..

my question to you guys is, ano kaya mga possible/foreseeable problems sa sasakyan na 214,000 na ang mileage.. the dmax is a 2005 LX model..

    Thanks!

you see its my brother who keeps on forcing me to change his stock grille into that thing TIA

Let mileage not intimidate you. What you have to be particular with is the maintenance history of that, should I say ANY, vehicle for that matter.

A well maintained, high-mileage vehicle is more reliable than a "low mileage" vehicle. Why is that? It only goes to show that it's proven to be reliable. Despite the tempting "pay when able" arrangement, I still suggest that you have a trusted mechanic thoroughly check the condition of that D-Max. That should provide you an idea what possible repairs it may need. Good luck!

Thank you for your vote of confidence. I sincerely appreciate it.

But as I (almost always) say, I am no (tech) GURU nor a smart alec who knows everything. I admit that I have claims proven true but there are (most) assumptions that would need confirmation. My objective is to at least give a co-enthusiast/owner an idea of what his query/concern is.

No worries joab.... let it go. I have and reaffirmed that my decision in doing so was right. We can't have it all. When it is a fact that most forumers enjoy trying to help and learn from others, not all do. Some rather find enjoyment hard selling their ideas.... and more often than not, posts like this become irritating. Ika nga e, parang sirang plaka.

    To each his own.

Oo nga. Would you not mind posting a bigger photo of your truck with the new radiator grille?

    * sir benz - hypothetically, if the vehicle was maintained so-so.. what would be the engine problems that are foreseeable, given its mileage? last time i drove it for a significant period of time was a year ago and it drove relatively well naman.. no issues whatsoever for a 600+ km trip (cotabato-zamboanga-cotabato) with good fuel consumption..

i drove it for a few minutes yesterday and i noticed the clutch is a bit deep and stiff.. otherwise, relatively good naman ang response ng engine.. pasensya na for the meager observations sir benz.. TIA!

IMO check the turbo if it needs cleaning then replace timing chain, tensioners, maybe oil seals and head gasket. Ask what brand and type of engine oil they use(mineral, semi-syn, syn). And the history of the maintenance would need checking as well. Yung Alternator at AC compressor for a 6 year old car eh ok pa yan sa tingin ko.

Clutch, complete drain an refill ng fluid muna tapos the usual cecking for leaks. pati na rin sa brake fluids.

*tata: Ry already gave me a good head-start. (Thanks RY)

I note that most of your concerns are related to generally what is called "wear and tear" items of a vehicle or replaceable/adjustable parts. Ok lang yan, that is expected when a vehicle is used (as in ginagamit). As for the engine, wag ka masyado mag-alala. Engines are designed to last a lifetime.... pending you perform maintenance as suggested and use genuine parts.

Slightly OT but related, my W123 240D has raked 160,000 miles and should be in the same department of that D-Max you're looking at. And still going strong.

Guys, fyi out na 2011 model ng Dmax LS saw one on display awhile ago.. specs almost same with the previous model with minor changes as follows:

    (+)
    - with back-up camera already
    - now 2-tone leather seats (black and gray)
    - with bumper guard
    - chrome accent (side linings)
    - new rims but still same size
    - 3rd break light on top is now white (previously red)

    (-)
    - no bedliner included
    - no tail lamp guard

    will post pics later..

I wonder if the same facelift will also be released for the Boondock II.

Swak na swak sir Benzmizer.. Thanks.

    2011 LS model

The Boondock should not be that different with the LS model.

    Long time no post...

Anyway, my D-Max's brake shoes (rear brake linings) are near the minimum service limits. I've been to 3 casas already but they all don't have the brake shoes in their parts stock. According to 1 casa, a lot of customers are already inquiring about the parts but the plant in Sta. Rosa is still waiting for arrival of stocks from Thailand.

These are maintenance parts and considering the length of time that the D-Max has been in the market, the demand and supply of these are presumably fast-moving. They ought to always have ready stocks of maintenance parts.

wala pa ako dmax pero im planning to buy one later this year or early next year.

as far as the engine is concern, ang gusto ko lang sa dmax is yung fuel consumption. karamihan ng fleet pick up hilux or dmax ang gamit, so siguradong ok ang fuel consumption.

if the vgs engine will arrive at that time na bibili ako, of course malaking factor, if not, honestly im also considering the strada, pero di pa ako sure kung gaano kaganda ang FC ng strada, which is a big factor kasi layo ng byahe ko araw araw

Based on my experience, mas matipid yung hilux 4x4 kesa sa 3.2 strada 4x4. pero kunti lang difference. Yung new strada ang mas ok FC kasi 2.5 lang at vgt na din. Sa 4x2 mas ok yung strada kesa sa Toyota IMO.
