Did I read correctly?
This new CRV has a turning radius of 5.9m?
Talo siya sa montero, 5.6m, & sa sta. fe, 5.45m.
Despite the CRV being shorter in length?
Mahirapan mag-u-turn si misis niyan.

Just how roomy is the new Honda CR-V's third row?
As it was, the outgoing CRV was selling pretty well despite offering nothing except the Honda badge. Now, they updated the 2.0S with all the tech from the Civic in a nice new package. That alone will steal thunder from the CUV frontrunners, the Forester and Tucson.
However, the 2.0S in this case isn't really the CRV's bread and butter variant. It's just there to remind people that the CR-V, even its entry-level gas model, is already ahead of the mid-trim CUV pack. As the sales figures show though, the market for CUVs is small and dwindling further. In fact, the 2.0S is in the equation simply as a price anchor.
Honda isn't out to kill PPVs. Just a niche - that of city-dwelling would-be PPV buyers who are buying PPVs because they're diesel, spacious, and have high ride heights, but have reservations with the ride comfort of PPVs and have no pressing need for 7 seats or rugged underpinnings. It sounds like a very specific niche, but that niche could be bigger than the entire gas-fed CUV-buying demographic altogether, given the huge disparity between CUV and PPV sales.
For just 30k more than the gas CRV, you get a diesel 1.6V CRV. Yes you lose out a bit on features, but you gain 2 extra seats and
lots of savings in terms of fuel costs. At 15,000 km annual mileage, you save about 40k per year in fuel between the gas and diesel variants.
For those who are more discerning and with more cash to burn (this is a big market considering the success of thr Fort V vs the G despite costing 300k more), there's the 1.6S. It comes with all the bells and whistles that the majority of people care about - fancy head unit, fancy lights, big rims, push button ignition.
The 1.6SX serves the exact purpose as the iPhone 7 128GB - an over the top variant that's really just meant to convince people that the mid-range (1.6S and iPhone 7 64GB) isn't too impractical - it's basic human psychology to go for the middle
This isn't a PPV killer, just a more practical alternative (with tremendous brand equity) compared to all other CUVs. For the niche I mentioned above, the argument isn't, "For the price of a CR-V, I'll just get a Fortuner/Montero/Everest because it's more macho/more rugged/more spacious/whatever reason".
Rather, the argument is, "For the price of a PPV, I'll just get a CR-V because it's just as frugal but is more comfortable."
Honda's product positioning for the CR-V is very textbook Marketing 101.

Spot on jut. I'd just add that a lot of people I know have wanted to separate themselves from everyone who drives one of the handful PPV models we see on the road every day. They want to get a CUV but are put off by the gas models' FC. This gives them that diesel option while staying in the same price range.
Exactly.

To add, Hondas are more aspirational products. There's no profit for them in including stripped out, spartan sub-1.4m models. Nobody will buy them.
Everybody upspecs their Honda purchase.
The Mobilio TOTL sells better than the base.
The BR-V TOTL (surprisingly) sells better than the base.
Honda customers are willing to pay more.
Maybe not 2m more, but they will certainly be buying more "S" Diesels than "V" Diesels.

Failure for Honda will mean the CR-V will still sell at twice its current rate.
Success should mean reclaiming the CUV sales throne (full-sized, that is... no way will it sell in EcoSport or Fortuner numbers).
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
niks for a pseduo 7seater at around 1million eh carry ng madlang pinoy..... tumatak sa isip yung pagka 7seater kaya najustify.
But sa s variant at 1.7million duda ako..... eh katapat lang sa quezon ave pag nakita yung nakadisplay fj cruiser at around 1.8milyones eh saan ka pa mas "mukhang mayaman" tingnan ito..
Explain nyo nga bakit bumenta fj kahit hind hitech amenties.....
Back to topic- saan gawa ang CRV? thailand or japan CBU?
Yep. FJ is a dinosaur that has outlived its novelty. If you rate it based on the same objective criteria modern cars are evaluated on it will get miserable marks.
I also think this will sell well. Even the last gen CR-V is almost sold out. Sales rep told me the only ones left are M/T models.
Thanks for that OB. Talagang nasa China and India ang mga big companies. Kahit saan pa naman gawin ang Honda or other brands ay okay lang. Was just curious saan made lately mga Honda. We cant discriminate against India since we dont want to be discriminated by foreigners din kung made in the philippines ang kotse nila.
Only the engine is made in India. Assembly and the rest of the manufacturing process is still in Thailand.
Honda India to make new 1.6L diesel engine for Philippines-spec CR-V, export to Thailand

Went to Honda Greenhills kanina for the viewing of the Honda CRV. Both were gas variants (since HCPI brought only 2 diesel CRVs for the launching?) First impression was great. I personally liked it. Have to wait and see the diesel 7 seater variant though. Nasa megamall daw ung isang diesel unit for the whole weekend.
Its not the same platform as the mobilio as per the branch manager. And yes made in Thailand. Sayang lang talaga na 120hp lang siya rather than the 160hp that we are expecting. Hopefully that would be enough.

Wala pa stock ang diesel. Tell Honda you want the 160hp diesel otherwise you will buy from toyota or mitsu. these people need to hear the buyers plight..

I am likely getting a new car this year (because of the coming pesky excise tax increase) so I'm looking into this CRV and other options (PPVs, Tucson/Santa Fe for diesel CUVs). As of now I'm still leaning towards the Golf GTS because of the price:features ratio and cargo capacity. The PMS costs don't look too high as well for the Golf GTS.
Though I probably need the ride height due to occasional Metro flooding, I would like myself the driving dynamics of a sedan as I'm used to it. Also I am having second thoughts on the city maneuverability of the top PPVs (again, coming from a sedan), although I don't think it's much of a concern with the CRV.
The CRV S variant would have probably won the cake for me if not for the weak engine (relative to my driving style) given its size.
The 120 hp CRV goes from 0-100 kph in 11.7 seconds. That's as fast as most PPVs.
Honda CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC 120 PS 2x4 - acceleration 0-100 km/h - YouTube
More importantly, all 300 Nm of torque is available as low as 2000 rpm.
Like I said in another thread, the 102 hp Innova never felt labored even with 8 on board. What more the more powerful CRV with a 9AT.
If you want a truly fast SUV, get a Forester XT.

While I think I'd appreciate the power of FXT, the 1.9M asking price is a bit too much for my wallet. And I'm cheap at the pump, too. You see, I'm driving a manual Accent CRDi (not too proud of it, but for my purpose it's what I have) so I'm used to frugal diesel and to the car's bat-at-out-of-hell (niky's words in the tgph review) rush. That's why I had to mention 'relative to my driving style' earlier because I'm not used to 102 hp Innova with 8 on board either, I'd be petrified. I also read that ride height has its penalty at the pump, as well as on the driving dynamics. So the car height of the Golf GTS seems about right for my purpose.
I'd still give the CRV (and maybe the FXT, along with perhaps the much stripped down Santa FE) a test drive in the coming weeks (if only to have a photo-finish before the messy excise tax arrive).
the perfect city cruiser 😁
