Oops. Sorry sir. 4HG1. had a talk with the driver-operator recently. the unusual smoking and sluggish power occured after filling-up with diesel. drained the fuel filter-separator. still there is white smoke. I suspect a water contamination problem with the fuel station. will fill up again another batch of diesel and see what happens. This is a correct next step before considering any repairs.

no previous work done on the vehicle except the regular oil and filters(oil, air, fuel) replacement. it was a surplus unit and running for 2 years now. the problem occured last week. Your problem seems to be fuel related. Keep us posted as your experience may help other Tsikoters.

    thank you sir You're welcome.

    Sir dieseldude,

    good day po!

Thanks in advance and god bless.

    1) Recheck idle adjustment and idle-up device.
    2) Check amount of refrigerant loaded on aircon; baka sobra. Check low and high side pressure of aircon.
    3) Verify any previous work performed on the engine.

    sir DD,

still on the process of consuming the previous diesel fuel. about 3/4 fuel left as of this writing as the vehicle is not usually used. on the average, about once a week. could this frequency of use contribute to the problem as the injection pump is not usually "exercised and lubricated" by diesel?

to add up some info. with the truck not running (engine on), blipping the throttle produces a combination of severely white and not so severe black smoke with the engine running roughly.

    thank you sir.

Rapid pump failure can happen if water is present in your fuel. Quality of clean diesel fuel deteriorates over time due to bacterial growth and accumulation of moisture. As a safe rule, diesel fuel should be disposed of if stored for more than 8 months. Try this: put fresh diesel fuel in a small container, connect your fuel suction and return lines to this container, and run your engine. If performance improves, then you know that your problem is due to a fuel quality issue.

Check pump timing, valve clearances, and air intake system for restriction. You can also bring your van to a qualified diesel workshop.

    thank you sir.

sir DD, i have to conclude that it was water contamination. truck runs normally as of now. it was used daily this week. the water at the bottom of the tank maybe consumed already. thanks

    You are welcome......

By the way, your unit probably has a WIF sensor below the fuel filter/sedimentor and an indicator lamp on the dash. Check/repair this to prevent costly fuel injection repairs.
