Ethanol And Effects On The Fuel System: Got this comment from this website:
    http://autorepair.about.com/library/a/1i/bl412i.htm
    A. A 10% blend of ethanol and gasoline will not harm any engine or fuel system component. However, the ethanol has a cleaning effect that will remove rust and other junk from the fuel system. This necessitates frequent fuel filter changes until the fuel system is cleaned out.

No modifications need to be done to allow an engine to run on a 10% blend of ethanol and gasoline. There is, in some areas, an 85% blend of ethanol and gasoline that does require engine modifications.

Actually there is no rubber used in the fuel system. All the fuel lines are made of Neoprene which is impervious to degradation by gasoline or other additives.

I just smell a lot of politics.

Ethanol is not supposed to destroy your car when given in the correct amount.

Ethanol is not the answer to increasing crude oil prices. It is an environmentally sounder fuel, but you will still be paying at the pump.

That's it. Let the consumer decide.

They're even limiting biodiesel use to just the 1% blend, using the 'voided warranty' scare tactic. Pambihira talaga...

Let me just add: Ethanol is less efficient than normal petrol so to those not in the know, they might be surprised that their newly filled ethanol-petrol blend vehicles are now gulping (or guzzling) down more fuel now compared to a pure petrol blend.

but ethanol and biodiesel is 'cleaner' para sa environment... biodiesel and ethanol is not to lower the prices but to avoid greenhouse gases and have a renewable source of energy...

masokay na yun mabilis maubos pero renewable kaysa matipid na hindi renewable...

and take into account yun 'moving' clean air act na every year yun allowable 'dirt' nagbabawas... sa EU 1/3 on biodiesel, 1/2 of france on biodiesel na...

there is still a debate on ethanols supposidley environmental friendliness since the manufacturing process of ethanol envolves burning fossil fuels . so it actually negates whatever savings you do when you use it. i think however that it is a good alternative if we do run out of petrol. but for environmental reasons the idea of it saving the environement is flawed. if you do produce less carbon monoxide from your car you have to think how much it produced by manufacturing ethanol.

a 10% blend is the BEST compromise.

there are just nuts out there who insist on using 90% blend. heck... that will really dissolve your fuel lines.

bro dont worry about corn and sugar we can plant them. Im a sugar cane planter here in batangas, every annual assembly of our cooperative we tackle about ethanol, i think next assembly (september) ethanol is AGAIN our subject. for four years now we are waiting and wanting to produce ethanol from sugar cane but unfortunately we cant because of lack support, government and non government sector. producing ethanol from sugar cane will help a lot of farmers and farm workers. As our director said: "dont worry about the demand of sugar and corn we can plant them, what we have to worry is when we drill oil and nothing comes up".

In Brazil, it is quite normal to use the percentage you mentioned.

    Carb vehicles not ethanol ready?

then why during the late 70's Alchogas ang fuel ng Philippines due to the oil crisis and most or all gas engines had carbs then, nothing happened to them.

    for me its all BS

well, if e85 is really gonna kill off carb'd engines, that would push owners to convert to lpg

    I wouldn't mind putting in E10 as long my car has a newly-built engine (ie. R18, R20A, J35A i-VTEC, 2ZR-FE)

Pero if it is a car that was made before 2000, then I won't risk it. Heck, I'm quite scared if Toyota's 2AZ-FE engine can run E10 safely (since 2002 made yung old Previa)

Still, I would think that medyo kulang pa rin ethanol because it also gives out disadvantages. If you want a win-win solution, get Bio-Butanol

    FYI

USDM 2004 Honda Civic and above is capable of E10, I believe most California certified cars for model year 2004 and up are capable of running E-10. Most gas stations in California uses Ethanol as opposed to MTBE.

    from mega-oil to mega-ag industry.

yng kombi, hiway driving yun from manila to nueva ecija (every other week). believe me, kayang kaya pang tumakbo ng 110 kph (* 4,000+ rpm) top speed. cruising speed namin 60-80 kph (2,000-2,900 rpm) lang kc walang brake assist at pawis-steering yun.

IMO, pinapatagal lang ang issue about the E10 or E20 blend. pwedeng pwede naman sa mga gas-fed cars yun, basta ang importante --> proper tune-up and maintenance.

I heard na nilabas na raw ng shell yung Super Unleaded nila na E10 (10% Ethanol) it's cheaper than ordinary unleaded yata.

I was wondering, will it affect the performance of our cars? Any Idea on its octane rating?

Share nyo naman mga opinions nyo.

i've heard di daw sya pwede sa carburated engines. pang injected lang.
and afaik, lumabas na yan. yung shell dito sa may pasong tamo, nagbebenta na nyan eh. its a little bit cheaper than the usual gasoline, but i've heard feedbacks too that your car consumes it more than the usual gasoline. in short, pareho lang ang gastos mo.

ang maganda lang ata dito is that, it emits less emissions than the normal gasoline.

    imho.
