this is the way of the future....the president for once is doing something good for our country and most importantly the environment. i hope this initiative moves on and supported by the big oil players and hope it will pave eventually for cheaper alternatives to fossil fuels and then hybrid cars and then eventually a cleaner world for our children and grandchildren....

Ethanol is not cheaper than gasoline. The only advantage of using ethanol as fuel is it can be locally produced. The problem with locally produced ethanol is the cost to produce a liter is more than gasoline so the government ends up subsidizing the production and distribution costs.

For the near and medium term future, our transport fuel needs might be solved by using LPG.

as long as the government finds the money to subsidise or fund the ethanol (and other future alterna-fuels) and like you said it can be produce locally then in the long term it will benefit filipinos as we will no longer depend much on foreign fuels. but it would be good if we have more choices like hybrid/electric cars, etc.

Where do you think that government money gets it's funding from? It cannot do it perpetually without the people still paying for it in the end as more taxes. Government money doesn't grow on trees, you know.

the reason why the governement doesn't have enough money is because you know what.that is why investors are afarid of investing in our country because of our dishonesty as regards money and the bureaucratic red tape. not enough money...not enough initiatives going to these humble and clean plans.

Its not a matter of investors. Even in developed countries, the only reason why a country would switch to ethanol is saving foreign currency reserves. For the ordinary motorist, it doesn't save them anything.

i think it all boils down to our politicians and leaders on how they manage our economy. marami kasing dishonest and corrupt kaya lahat ng mga magagandang plans tulad nito ay nababale-wala. no wonder progress is very slow in our country.....

The honest pinoy politician is the exception than the rule, sad to say... corruption is already part of the system of government. An honest politician will not stay honest for very long.

you know ang ganda sana...if only we change the system of governemnet so it will be easier for us to get projects like these rolling smoothly and orderly. i know it boils down to the people running the country but just look at singapore, malaysia, vietnam, thailand. i guess i rest my case then.

here's a list of ethanol (E5 and E10) compatible cars. with E10 costing 36.xx per liter, it's actually worth it!

    http://www.fcai.com.au/ethanol.php/2.../00000005.html

buti pa yung mga mitsu, all fuel-injected models post-1986 are compatible.. but if you have a porsche or audi (or some much more lowbrow cars..) di pwede ang E10.

SAPUL! kahit sa US, kanya kanyang lobbyist din lang.

    reviving the thread for orly_andico

yehey!!! California has been mixing ethanol since 1999 which replaced the MTBE. Ethanol didnt stop the gas prices from going up. hoorayyy!

a very good read regarding ETHANOL HYPE. [its all polical BS]

actually yeah, ethanol from plant products won't replace oil, it's too expensive and displaces food crops.

the solution for the future is algae converted into biodiesel. algae is the most efficient at converting solar energy into oil.

but.. (from the E10 thread) i don't care about that. bottom line is, right now, E10 is 36.xx per liter. so yeah it doesn't "save the environment," but it would save you 300 bucks on your next full tank.

as an OT aside, i was talking to the taxi driver kanina. figures:

    1) boundary on his AE111 is 1250 petot
    2) gasoline cost is 1800 petot, he drives 350km per day

it occurred to me that if i was a taxi operator, i could convert my fleet to LPG using the 30k conversion kit. if i add even 200 petot to the boundary, i would recover the cost of the LPG conversion kit in less than a year (200 petot X 22 days = 4400/month).

the driver wouldn't mind because with the huge price differential of LPG and gasoline, he'd still take home an extra 200 petot or more.

so parang it helps the environment, helps the taxi owner (can justify charging extra boundary, plus after the first year the extra 200 is pure gravy), and helps the driver.

now if only i had tons of cash to set up a taxi franchise... :D

been pumping gas with Ethanol for 5-years, same price, same fuel consumption. Kelan kaya ako makaka-save ng 300bucks?

its just a matter of time until they raise the price of ethanol. Last year, nung nalaman ng energy company sa US na dumadami ang nagkakarga ng Natural Gas sa bahay nila. guess what? The NG price went up 50% and so did the electricity, it went up 50%.

haluan mo ng tubeg ang gas, bukas-makalawa tataas na din ang price ng tubeg :evillaugh haluan mo ng harina gas, bukas-makalawa tataas ang price ng harina

langyang buhay 'to, walang kawala! nhahahaha

Honda All Honda vehicles should use the fuel recommended in the Owner's Manual. The following models will operate satisfactorily on E10: Insight - 2004 onwards; Civic range (including Civic Hybrid) - 2004 onwards; S2000 - 2004 onwards; CRV - 2003 onwards; MD-X - 2003 onwards; Accord & Accord Euro - 2003 onwards. Honda does not recommend E10 for other vehicle models because there may be drivability issues.

May Naka try na sa SIR? Puede ba mga tol?
