generally, the manual tranny is still more fuel efficient... but advancement in auto trannys and CVTs is making the difference trivial and for some, the reverse is already true...

example??? the new subaru xv/impreza CVT is more fuel efficient than the manual version...

    Other countries = USA?

Europe still has a large proportion of M/T cars.

And most, if not all, Europeans drive better in manual-tranny; they have better skills using it than when you see the Yanks on the same set-up ;)

The Philippines is heavily-influenced by the US of A, that's why a lot of Pinoys are so much into auto-trannys where the majority's excuse is kesyo ma-traffic daw, kesyo sakit daw paa nila kaka-clutch kaya daw automatic sila hehe. This is especially common among the Manila city boys, na freno-nang-freno sa kaunting kurbada lang, lalo na sa zigzags bwahehe

    Cheers!

AT snobbery is just as bad as MT snobbery.

The point that an AT is easier to drive in traffic is a valid one, if you ask me. Yes, I can drive a manual all day long, but when you're stuck in C5 at 7:30 in the evening, the convenience of an automatic is dearly missed. You wouldn't know that if you don't spend your daily routine in such conditions.

An MT driver is not superior to an AT driver. I find it shallow when people prop themselves up based on the transmission of their car.

When i was first learning to drive, my friend lent me his nissan frontier navarra, model 2002 i think... it was a manual. I had difficulty driving it when we were stopping on humps and some corners. But along the highway when the coast is clear, ok naman sya.
When i had my first car, yung jazz, i chose the AT. Then my tucson was also AT, and now, having sold both of them, I bought a Strada ....AT siempre.
Everyone is after comfort, specially these days of stress at work and even at home, so why add more.stress when we can have a Matic.

The great American AT-only influence seeping in to the Pinoy norm

Just a brief note - we live in Metro Manila, and we're not any strangers to C5, EDSA, Binondo, name them, nor do we even brag how we ply through say even when driving an Elf truck, yet we all prefer manual-trans, therefore NO DRAMAS .....Nor we even use "bucks" when we actually mean Philippine Peso, that will never be a "buck" hehehehe

O sige chief, hindi kayo pitik-nang-pitik sa freno sa kapiranggot na kurbada lang at lalo na sa zigzag habang kayo'y naka-kurbata to the max

    Cheers!

I will only appreciate the benefits of a matic when I get home. Kapag nakauwi from a long drive with heavy traffic gamit matic, buhay na buhay pa. Kapag manual ang ginamit, diretso na sa kama.
