Wheels of Fortune: The Fortuner vs. the Alterra

There is actually nothing in this article about the Fortuner that we don't know already. It's just a flowery write-up with good wits and skillful composition about something we already know.

What would really make waiting for the Fortuner more worthwhile is if Toyota improves its public relations image by addressing customers on how they plan to improve the current backlog situation, how to manage the Fortuner waiting list by putting up an effective qeueing system, clarify the complaints about the in-house financing and add-ons, explain the pricing scheme, generally more effective customer relations especially in a crisis time like this. These are the things that will make the Fortuner really worth waiting for.

It could be from the customs official who facilitated the release of the imported Fortuners to the dealers. No surprises there.

Hmmm... I guess I can assume you are not or no longer waiting 'coz you imply that it is not really worth the wait.

Di naman, it's just that the article will only make you feel good inside. After you finished reading it, you are still faced with the reality that your Toyota Dealer was screwing you in the arse. So the "feel good" effect was cancelled out.

Bottomline is, Toyota has not done enough to make the Fortuner really worth waiting for.

For people who already got their unit, I'm sure every article sounds like angelic music from heavens. But for people who are still toiling in the line, no new news is always bad news.

Yeah, I understand what you mean. But, the purpose of sharing the article is also to let those who are waiting feel that they are not sweating in line for some distasteful product. To know that some opinionated expert thinks highly of a product you are patiently waiting in line for, offers some comfort to the future owners.

As for the unscrupulous dealers... Their day is about to come! Very soon there will be a surplus of incoming units... The units that they re-upholstered and upgraded will become unsold units gathering dust in their dealership display room.

firstly, you have to deduct the amount generated by old money, i.e. money generated from sales of assets such as currently owned cars in order to finance the purchase of the fortuner. because of this the current asset based has not grown exponentially or as expected, i.e. by the asset value of the fortuner. secondly, you have to deduct purchases made through loans as these do not represent real purchasing power. this is credit and a continuing liability until paid. while the value of credit rises (due to add on interest), the value of the property being purchased goes down (due to depreciation). so in real terms, there is a reduction of wealth for the purchaser. while there are benefits from the interest generated from the credit to the credit companies or entities, we are not sure if this goes back to the economy. these profits could be remitted abroad as profits to foreign entities or not properly reinvested.

well then let's take half of 4.8B -> 2.4B. assuming 50% na lang value ng 2nd hand car to be disposed. laki pa din for a country na may problema sa fiscal crisis amounting to billions of pesos. tama nga ang kasabihan, nasa
private na nga ang pera ng Pilipinas ... that's why sabi sa news healthy pa
ang private sector to even equate our present predicament to a full-blown
    economic crisis.

OT uli: 2.4B is a pittance. it is the income of only one public company. the point is the fact that you have 4,000 ordering the fortuner does not mean the country is rich. there are 80M filipinos and the so-called 4,000 is only 0.00005% of the population.

as correctly pointed out by BoyFerrari, the 4,000 could very well be living in ayala alabang or at some other comfortable subdivision.

to recap, IMHO the fact that you have 4,000 ordering the fortuner does not tell me that the philippines is "not poor"

Ok guys, very soon you'll be talking about the corruption in politics and the politics in corruption... The misdistribution of wealth and the geographic distribution of commerce... Let's just start another thread on this.

Ang pagka-alam ko talaga 2.5L yung 4x2 D4D na variant ng Fortuner. It will use the same Turbo Diesel engine used by the current high-end Innova. Someone from TMPC told me that during the Manila Motor Show at WTC, one of the units that was driven in during the last day was a 2.5 D4D Fortuner. All the units were fully loaded with promo girls.

I guess Carlo & Marvin can confirm if there was indeed a diesel unit without a hoodscoop at the WTC Fortuner visit.

Just noticed under the hood there is no radiator cap anymore on the D4D. In case of overheating, you have to pour into the coolant container. Latest fuel mileage reading improved, from 6.7 km/l to 7.3 km/l b

Finally my agent called me this morning and was very happy to inform me that my unit is ready for pick up. The problem is i have to add 300 thousand on top of the 1.533 million for all the accessories they have installed. so i went straight to the show room to check the unit and to my surprise, it look different so have to pass on and wait for the basic model to arrive.

i took a photo of the dressed up fortuner for you guys to check

Pls let us know who this unscrupulous dealer is. Thanks!

Let them have their fun now, but the inevitable decline of sales and demand will come soon and that's where we'll hit them hard the most by not patronizing them. Let's compile a list of dealers to avoid!

Just a side note which I want to mention although it should be in the "Lets Boycot the Toyota Fortuner" thread. Even Toyota Makati is not immune from this "sickness" afflicting many Toyota dealers of recent. Despite their exercise in restraint compared to the other accessories shoving dealers, they told me that I need to get their insurance to attain priority in their list. What else is new.

Welcome to all owners of Toyota Fortuner [ARCHIVED]
