Just like what vicoyski said earlier, that's your ABS doing what it's supposed to do. Don't be alarmed. What you should be concerned of is if your breaks behaves otherwise (locked wheels, for instance)
I was in a situation where i had to do a very hard braking (i mean really hard), and i am glad that the ABS of the Fortuner actually works! It saved me a lot of hassles (financial and paperworks). But for a moment there, i actually thought that the breaks would be shredded into pieces

That's the ABS mechanism getting "online", at least that's what the manual says. However, I dont really know the exact mechanism. I noticed it also with my unit, so, hinimay ko ng husto yung manual. I haven't tried asking any SA yet as to why it makes that sound, which is quite alarming the first time you hear it.
Fellow tsikoteers, any thoughts/ feedback on this matter? Do you also notice this sound on your units?

I also noticed an unusual sound coming from below the engine several times as I start to accelerate after starting the engine. I did not give it much thought. I am also not familiar with ABS as this is the first car that I own that has one. I hope the sound is caused by the ABS mechanism getting "online" as patron mentioned.

AFAIK, the only noise you are bound to hear from the ABS brake system is when you stomp/step on it really hard, as in to stop immediately inorder to avoid collision.

I'm not quite a gearhead on ABS, but, is it possible that this sound (the one that's heard right after the car starts moving) is produced by the valves in the ABS controller?

I feel the same thing immediately after releasing the brake coming from a hard stop. I reported this during my 5K checkup but the casa said my brakes are ok.

I suspect that this is mechanical and somewhere outside the brake system. Could be in the linkages or suspension where maybe one part causes the sound when under extreme pressure (or when pressure is released).

I drove cars with ABS and never experienced this except for the vibration during hard braking which is normal.

I dont think we can pinpoint the problem (and if it really is a problem) unless we have the right tools.

Lets just be cautious when driving and avoid getting into situations that require hard or sudden braking.

Sa mga moderators sorry po in advance in case this doesnt belong here, i dont know if this is the right thread to post this but this concerns our purchase of our Fortuner.

May tanong po me sana sa inyo guys regarding how this VAT thing affects car selling prices because we were about to purchase our Fortuner which was priced at 1.5M when we made a reservation deposit last December 2005. Now the price is jacked up to 1.6M coz of VAT daw?

My question is will the VAT increase affect us given that we had our reservation deposit December-05 prior to February 1, 2006 when VAT was officially in effect?

    Thanks in advance

Picture of my unit. I pass this 600m of unpaved road with moon-sized craters every day on my way home.

Unless your deal was consumated before Feb. 1, then you are affected by the R-VAT increase. A reservation fee is just that, a reservation fee.

Your unit price will be the prevailing price when the "actual sale" was made to you. Because of the long waiting list, the reservation deposit doesn't really mean anything since it is fully refundable because Toyota doesn't really build units according to customer needs at this time. You will be offered whatever unit arrives here from Thailand.

I didn't know that the timer could compute the required idle time... I just leave it at 1 minute for my daily commute. For a long roadtrip (like Baguio), I might just set it at 2-4 mins.

Pressing the button for more than 2 secs resets the timer to zero (0) and it gives off a high beep. I don't know how to set the automatic detection, if there is one.

yes vicoy, there is. will have mine checked by the installer of the one with auto mode. sa kanya nanggaling yung turbo timer ko and we have the same brand(miccon), so dapat pareho lang.
yung kanya pag city driving, it stops at 30sec-1min. pag hinataw mo or mejo long drive...it goes up automatically to 2-3minutes depending on how your driving is.
sa tingin ko pareho tayo ng wiring coz manual lang ang setting. i'll keep you posted kung paano yung auto. less hassle kase pag matic.
i should've had it installed by the same guy.

i took yer advice and boy were you right! i went there took a seat and got the feel of it, scrutinized every inch too and i got that vibe that it really didnt feel right, the silver didnt apeal to me much so im gonna wait for the black 3.0, thou i wonder when would that be oh well.. as what sir Monseratto said, better than living with regrets after

By the way guys, i noticed when i quick depress the gas pedal with an instant release, it went "vrooom" then i heard this rattling sound right after releasing the pedal. The head mechanic said that it was from the turbo and that its normal daw. Feedback sana sa mga trusty tsikoteers/fortuner owners here. Oh and thanks for the advices

I'm just surpised with this Fortuner with this noise feedback from the owners. Bago ang mga unit bakit may mga noise na na sila naririnig?

Hehehe... May nakita na naman si Apexi! I thought D4-D hate campaign ka lang? You're very keen with anything negative about the Fortuner... It seems Fortuner hate campaign na ang ginagawa mo ah.

Pabayaan mo na, Sir. Concerned lang siguro si Apexi sa ating ride.

The most important thing is that we are satisfied with our car.

If ever I will encounter any trouble with my ride I will definitely share it on this thread so that other owners will also be aware. So far, sa awa ng Diyos, wla pa naman.
