At any speed... if you are braking REALLY hard to the point of locking up the wheels or over uneven surfaces like gravel. The brakes will pulsate / vibrate really hard and the brake pedal will dip in further.

But if you are just braking normally, the ABS should not activate.

ABS can even activate at walking speed as long as the surface is slippery enough.

You'll feel and hear it working.

It's always advised to purposely trigger ABS on your new car so you will know how it will feel and sound like. So that you will not be caught off guard in an emergency. Just find an empty road, drive fast enough, and stand on the brakes. It's fun!

Ah will try to watch out for that next time. The last time i had to slam my brakes was when there were two adult idiots crossing the street looking NOT at the direction of oncoming cars (my God, i was taught how to correctly cross by my parents at 5!). I was blowing my horns to no avail, either they were deaf (medically) or nagt-testing kung kaya nila makaiwas sa mga sasakyan at the last minute.

    OTEP, try ko nga

BTW, ang alam ko may Brembo kit for Fortuner para mapalitan yung drum sa likod to disc, 350k ata yung cost.
did you happen to measure breaking distance? I'm trying to quantify why it has weak brakes daw.

also normal lng ba when you slam the brakes at aprox 40Km/hr, you could here cracking sound? abs ba yan?
In reference to the Fortuner's ABS, these are the sounds/ tactile feedback you will most likely encounter:

    1. You can hear a "whirring/ buzzing" sound just as your Fort starts to move into speed from standstill (ABS initializing)

    2. The character of the ABS doing its job is more of an intermittent pulsation or tugging vibration on the break pedal (from my first-hand experience, both intentional and unintentional)

IMO, "CRACKING" is not exactly a sound you normally hear from an ABS. I suggest you investigate further, if that's EXACTLY the sound you've heard.

The 'feel' of ABS in operation is practically the same for almost all cars. Japanese, Korean, Swedish, German, etc. I can't really put it into words, it's best experienced in a controlled environment.

I'm also considering yoko geo H/T-S but the model code is G051, where did you see a G046? The Yoko booth at Motorshow only had a G051.
The oem Duelers are also H/T's but my experience with dueler's is they get slippery as they age. Don't expect a huge difference in braking performance between the two though.

We went to subic and I had an opportunity to test our fortuner V series at long distance driving. Like what everyone is saying its 3.0 litre engine is powerful, I think it can even outdrag a 96 civic vti from 100kph and above. For a diesel engine its relatively quiet even at 130kph, my mother always complain at me everytime I go above 110kph using our hilux 2.5 d4d but * 130kph with the fortuner she didnt notice it.

Im not really fond of cornering at neck breaking speed but just for the sake of testing, it matched my expectation that the fortuner is poor in this aspect since it is obviously a SUV.

With regard to its braking power although ive agreed that its weak in my previous post. I would like to categorize it in two main points.

After driving it at the NLEX its braking power is decent enough to stop a 2000+kg. SUV from an adequate distance even at 130-140kph. However, its braking power is not powerful enough if you want to use the full potential of the fortuner's 3.0litre engine lets say you want to drive it up to 160kph in the NLEX. I dont believe it has the capability to put the fortuner in an immediate stop * 160kph and above if some idiot from the other lane would misjudge your speed and decide to swerve in front of you even in an adequate distance. So if you decide to test its maximum speed do it in an open highway with no obstacles. Judging by its power I think it may reach up to 170 or 180kph.

I am no expert in engineering or car physics but I think the 45% brake effeciency test is exaggerated.

BTW, since the IMV project shares a number of components from the hilux and fortuner specifically its brakes. I just want to make some comparison since vehicle weight plays a big part in stopping power.

Based on the specs of the 4x4 hilux * 1880kg. of curb weight it is heavier than the gas version of the fortuner * 1735kg. of curb weight

    http://www.toyota.com.ph/cars/new_ca..._imv/specs.asp

    http://www.toyota.com.ph/cars/new_ca...uner/specs.asp

Does anyone here own or driven or knows who have driven a 4x4 hilux and/or a fortuner gas version? How do you compare the braking power of these two? Or how do you compare the braking power between the fortuner V and the fortuner G (gas version)?
