looking at other AT filters, this might have a foam-like material inside, saka parang hindi sya dinesign to be opened
although i'ved asked other AT owners and they did not replaced the filter at all, puro drain and fill ATF lang

power steering is almost 2 liters. siphon old fluid, put new fluid, turn steering wheel, siphon, repeat mga 8x ata
rear diff around 2.4L
AT, ubos yung 4 x 1L cans
nakita ko kasi sa video na ito (skip to around 15:05) na on this particular vehicle, foam-like ang filter media nya
i wanted kasi the power steering reservoir to return to a pink colorkaya we did the siphon-fill-turn activity several times
API-CI kasi ang Trekker while API-CF lang ata yung ibang nasa Rev-X lineup so theoretically mas better
hindi na, in our other vehicles na nag change coolant ako via DIY din, sa drain plug lang ako gumagalaw
drain and fill is yung normal method lang just like changing the engine oil
nakapag try na rin ako ng dialysis pero around 500 kasi itong T-IV, if i use 10L for the dialysis ang mahal nun. maintain na lang at the proper intervals
onga e pero judging by the filter cutout, matagal pa lifespan nya
neither, po.
it is not so much about impurities, po, as it is the additives.
with today's metal alloy engines and radiators, manufacturers add anti-oxidation additives to the coolant, to prevent metal from... oxidizing and leaking.
water, whether tap or mineral or distilled, has none.
coolant has.
btw,
no no to mineral water, including the drinking variety and deep well water (artesian well, poso water, "hard water"). the minerals tend to precipitate out and solidify, when heated by the engine.
use them only in an emergency.
OT history.
in the 60s and 70s, when the diversion roads (now slex and nlex) were quite new, the authorities provided at intervals, emergency water storage receptacles (overturned concrete drainage tubes, 3-4 feet wide), for overheating engines and the like. uso pa noon ang overheating sa highway, even as the ends of the diversion roads were in alabang and in tabang only.

Just to be thorough... you can use distilled water. BUT only for mixing with coolants that are sold as a concentrate and requires a 50/50 mix.
