i visited an apv showroom yesterday to check on this model that i've been researching on (sa totoo lang, drooled on -- after seeing the pimped apv pics of our malaysian friends ) for the past weeks; i wanted to check if one would really feel like a bus driver on the apv driver's seat as i've read somewhere in this forum.

i was happily surprised to discover that the 2008 variants are now the current offerings. new grill, coil spring rear suspension, much classier grey-beige combination dashboard, adjustable steering wheel, mp3 na ang head unit, captain's seats ang second row, more color choices. my first view of its interior (i was shown a black sgx m/t unit, yun lang ang nandoon e) made me feel like i was looking at a proper -- albeit more compact -- van, one where your passengers, including those in the third row, would feel comfy all the way to baguio and back.

the way i felt at that very moment, i would have told the other customer waiting for his black apv unit inching its way through traffic from the taguig (taguig ba yun?) bodega something like this: painumin na lang kita p're, bigyan pa kita kateybol, pero ako na muna mag-uuwi nung apv mo, total isang tawag lang nila may mapapasunod namang isa pang unit e, hehehe! that is, if i had the money plus a few extra then. pero wala naman akong cash e, just an average lower middle class guy squeezing whatever amount of intelligence he has to give the P700 plus cash na mauutang niya the most value it could get from the range of "affordable" cars the market temps him with.

sa totoo lang, you'd feel you're getting the most value for your money with the 2008 apv.

most of my other concerns on the apv's design just whizzed by as i tried my butt on all its seats. hindi tinipid ng suzuki, even the third row seats had thick foams!

i don't think driving it with the engine burning fuel just a few inches below your butt would even give you the idea that you'd be toast. noh, it won't. malamig din pati ang aircon.

greasy-handed mechanics soiling that great interior? well, i told myself that i would preempt that by putting some kind of protection before letting one actually access the engine.

confined foot area up front? well, feel ko ito. the wheel wells eat into 1/4 of that space. but your feet won't be needing that much space anyway as you drive, i told myself. if i wanted to rest, i'd get into the second row, push on the captain's seat's backsupport, and there a bed awaits me. and this is one of the features i like in the apv's seat configurations. you can actually have a bed inside your van!! two beds pa nga, and my dirty mind goes to work, hahaha!!

but the philippine variants of the 2008 apv still comes with the g16 engine. single overhead cam, 16 valve, 1600 pa rin. not electronically fuel injected to give me at least some psychological comfort. the SA entertaining me yesterday couldn't seem to present a credible fuel consumption data. he was quoting me with an 8-10 km/l consumption, but couldn't look me straight in the eyes. my present ride is a 1300 sedan that eats up 7 or so km/l. i intend to keep it, and we've learned to live with its fc.

i was only hoping that a new car would be more fuel efficient.

any thoughts? data? thank you all.

Yes its EFI na nga and now with direct Injection (Distributorless system)

fuel consumption is 6 to 8 only i believe.

You may wanna try suzuki Kalookan
I saw at greenhills they are offering a

    APV Type K.

GL Base unit but with Side decals, hubcabs, DVD VCD AM/FM MP3 7inch LCD in the front dash, dual aircon (Non OEM)

    Retails for 690k

The ugly part is that it has a type K Sticker at the back is an obvious rip off of the TYPE R of the honda line up! Pretty lame if you ask me. I bet suzuki would put a stop to that if they knew about it!

mga sirs, i stand corrected, hehehe. i've been trying to read up on other threads in other forums re: fc of apv. somewhere ( i think it was in a malaysian thread) i've read that one had achieved a 9-10 km/l fc, and i would be very happy to see that claim substantiated. i would really pay sir lui a visit one of these days, pag kumuha kasi ako, maganda na kung sa kapwa tsikoteer, di ba? hehehe

just got my spanking new APV Type I yesterday delivered by Lui. I'd prefer Silver sana kaya lang almost 2 weeks na waiting, pasukan na sa school this week wala pa kaya I ended with a white.

Well, I drove it for the first time yesterday, di na ako sanay sa manual.

Where do you guys suggest I have central locking and alarm installed?

thanks Lui and tia for the suggestions.
i just hope the APV gives the family many years of reliable service.

kizmark, may club na ang mga apv owners like me. nasa www.clubsuzukiph.tk, then look for team apv.

thebat-bro pwede sya according to the manual. just make sure na 10% lang ang ethanol content and you'll be running OK.

revD, as long as you follow the recommended maintenance sked of the apv, walang problem yung apv mo. ang magiging kalaban lang natin ngayon ay reckless drivers and pedestrians na nangagasgas ng mga bagong kotse and also fuel prices.

guys, apv owners, again lang ha, we have a club already for us apv owners and suzuki owners in general. just visit us at www.clubsuzukiph.tk.

mukhang malakas gas consumption? 200+ km full tank. I have 300+ pa lang sa ODO.

    mag-iimprove pa to?

FC for my Gen 1 APV is about 6km/litre. Medyo masama, pero you have to consider:

    1) APV's engine, while adequate (went up to Baguio with 8 people and full luggage), is small for the APV's size; smaller, overworked engine brings less FC vs a larger, but mildly-stressed engine

    2) APV's engine is more than 10 years old, and is the same as the old Suzuki Vitara model's engine; improved though with distributorless ignition; but the FC is on par with AT-equipped engines of the same generation; my old Corolla MT GLi had FC of about 7-8

While I'd have preferred the new APV, I'd have wanted it to retain the 8-seater configuration, with sliding seats na lang sana instead of captain's chairs.

sir RevD, may nakita akong apv club thread ng mga taga singapore, one member was diligent enough to list his fuel consumption. best fc niya umabot ng 10 km per liter. as far as i can recall, ang range ng fc ng apv nila is from 7 to 10 km/liter. age ng apv nila ranges from 6 months to over one year. di ko lang maalala yung exact link ng thread e. btw, di po ako apv owner, just considering to get one over avanza this year.

bro, what was your f/c when you went up to baguio and back? mine was around 11-12km/L, manual, and naka-AC pa nga eh.

i was doing a comparison of the f/c of some SUVs in the market and halos pareho lang ang FC ng apv's g16a engine with them, so i think tama lang ang FC. no idea yet what should be the ideal FC of a mini-SUV so we have to do some tests/comparisons for that.

speaking of the comparison with SUV's fc's, i am proud that i have a working SUV/mini-van in our garage

i agree with that too kasi dapat ganun ang van's seating capacity- 8+up.

I would say mga 10 something, though I didn't check that much. Medyo malakas din since going up and around Baguio naka-off yung OD ko most of the time kasi talagang puno kami (8+ luggage), so medyo mabigat yung tapak ko.
