You can build a complete brandnew fullsus bike for about 50k+, and it's a decent bike, too: Shimano Deore components, Epicon suspension, lightweight cockpit and components.

The lower end RockShox and Fox stuff are really not that far off from the Epicon, outside of the brand name.

[QUOTE=aDD_L;2241807]Yes, mas mura ang shimano owing to the fact na meron 2 xtra groupsets and SRAM sa high end vs shimano although ginawa ng shimano ay yung latest nila ay tinapat nila yung XTR RACE grupo nila sa XX grupo ng SRAM. Currently, ganito matching nila more or less (SRAM-shimano) :

XX1 - (non, wala pa 11 spd ang shimano)
    XX - XTR Race
    X0 - XTR trail
    X9 - XT
    X7 - SLX
    X5 - Deore

Note that XTR, XT and SLX clutch type rear derailleurs as well type 1 SRAM Derailleur are 40% more expensive than normal RD.

For SRAM, their grupos are combination of rock shox, avid and truvativ as they are same company. Lately, truvativ drivetrains are now labeled as SRAM while brakesets are still Avid and grupos are under Avid's elixir subset.

I am using X0, X9 and XTR, XT drivetrain. Performance wise, shimano shift smoother while SRAM shifts faster (1:1 pull ratio). For brakes, both gave tunable stopping power. I liked the long lever by SRAM for better one finger operation although current XT/XTR brake levers are now modified for one finger operation. Here's my XT brake levers :

Very nice comparo between the brands you posted there boss...
I've got a hard tail with X5 mechanicals (mostly) but Im not happy with its shifters! I dont know if I'll get used with it, pero I'd prefer my previous Shimano shifters with 'push/pull' change in gear (forgot what type is it, luma na masyado!)... itong X5, ang mechanism ng shifter niya, push/push, meaning if you want to change in higher gear push shifter A, lower gear, push shifter B....
ganon din ba sa mga Shimano ngayon? or sadyang mabagal lang mag shift tong X5 kasi entry level lang siya?

    Cheers

I like the performance of SRAM Components but... never been a fan. Shimano from the very start.

Based on your description, and if I'm not mistaken, your X5 shifting mechanism is similar to
Shimano RapidFire Shifters > Two "push shifters" to control the movement of the derailleurs.

As mentioned earlier by fellow Tsikoteers, SRAM Shifters feature Exact Actuation 1:1 cable pull ratios for precise, dependable shifting.
    That includes your SRAM 5.

A little oiling on the shifter cable /cable housing and some oiling/tweaks on your derailleurs might
    cure the "slow response".
Whenever I feel that the brakes and/or shifter cables are "sticky", I replace the cables
with new ones (Shimano of course). These cables are pre-lubed.
A very small price to pay for years of reliable and enjoyable rides. :bike:

    Always wear a Helmet.

    * el Capitan. shimano still retained the pull (trigger) and push shifters. Gamayan nga yung sa shifters, and I found that SRAM setup to be better, kasi my index finger lingers on the brake lever (SRAM elixir/X series brakes are one finger operation) while my thumb stays on the shifters. And I believe that was SRAM intentions, faster braking and shifting while providing steering. So it looks like a good system since starting from 2012 (or 2011?), Shimano also adopted the push/push type although they 1 upped SRAM by providing dual control (pull/trigger and push) on both XT and XTR shifters (not sure about SLX) and ability to shift 2 gears at a time (while the other trigger still same and can shift as many as your throw can do). At the same time, shimano a brake levers were revised to be more conducive to one finger operation (longer blades).
Can you check your shifter cabling setup, kasi I find SRAM to shift faster than shimano, baka naiipit yung cable dun sa housing or yung routing mo not enough to give proper movements.

El Capitan, oiling/greasing will help a lot as joemarski mentioned (Sorry joemarski, did not see your reply before I posted mine above). If you have time, greasing will be better but you need to go to your LBS (aka local bike shops: nahawa na ako sa mga terminology foreign bike forums) dahil baklas cable Yan and you will need to adjust cable tensions and calibrate your gearing unless you are able to do it yourself. So fastest way is as joemarski mentioned is to oil it.

And Yes, always wear a helmet.

    ------------

I'll bring it back to the bike shop and ask them to do it. may first PMS ako in 4 weeks time...

    salamat Boss.. appreciate it ...Cheers!

salamat Sir, magaling akong magbaklas, pero magbalik? nevermind hehehe

you can just post here. btw love Look frames, something about french really makes them ***y haha but a 576 is a tri/tt frame due to steep seat tube. was looking at a closeout 595 too bad hard to find my size. 695 too expensive! $5K FRAME

Siyempre nasa rider din yan but the XX1 XO1 are true innovations over what Shimano can currently offer to racers.

Sa front shocks naman, lamang ngayon ang RockShox, as the 2014 Pike is head and shoulders above the competition.

hm parang di na dapat 11 speed ang mtb hehe, road just went 11 speed recently, except for campy.

you should brake with one finger only naman when using hydros, one finger is enough. more control on the bars. currently on hygia slp brakes, far cry from xt brake feel and power, but i got it for its weight. bigat ng xt

Depende din sir sa type ng riding either XC, Trail, Enduro or downhill etc... Mostly yung mga trails sa Metro Manila and nearby areas more on XC/Trail. Iba iba din kasi mga parts na ok per riding discipline.

*sir piscesboy, saang bikeshop ka bumili ng merida mo? gandang hardtail bike!

*sir jmpet, pardon me masyadong general yung inquiry ko. nakakalito kasi ang daming brands, piyesa and ride application. bottom line is all about budget. most of the branded names and component parts available na sa atin kaya nasa budget na lang talaga. basa-basa muna ako sa mga brands and components for now and one thing i learned, the lighter they are, the more expensive they become
