Typically, vans are purchased by families with new born babies. Since the doors slide and most newer vans now come with power sliding doors, it is easier to put the baby in and out of the vehicle than a SUV which is usually taller and the conventional door is harder to manage with a baby on the other hand. The past few years, I noticed though that a lot of younger couples don't want to buy a van (makes them look old) so they buy a small crossover.

I still have an old van though which I use for utility work (trip to Lowe's or Home Depot or even the occasional long drive when we need the seating capacity).

Or what if they go to different trails every time they ride? Is it required to buy a crappy bike to ride in a crappy trail and buy a nice bike for a very technical trail?
Defensive ka naman masyado, I wasn't even talking about you. Natamaan ka ba??

Yung iba parang pang status symbol lang. They get the most expensive bike that they can afford but rarely do they get to make the most out of their bikes. But they do seem to have a lot of fb posts about their rides.

I guess it's the same deal with people buying SUV's to look rich/pogi.

everybody starts somewhere, whether just biking in the subdivision or just going out to buy something at your sari sari store, different capacities lang in budget. i used to think like you, but hey we all have the same passion so now i respect all bikers whether low budget or high end bike gamit mo, basta hilig mo pumadyak ayos na.

my other passion is wrenching, tho my skills are limited and kulang sa tools. siguro dapat next na upgrade is a good set of toolkit, and repair stand

btw maraming dh courses sa timberland dati, there are still some gnarly trails there-patiis is still alive, im sure lost horizon still has some bikable sections. pestano had fast routes before

Patiis is still there but I think of it as separate from Timberland. Bans Mendoza supposedly built a track that even he hasn't even tried yet since he went to PMB, South Africa. There's also Antenna in Binangonan and Killer Loop in Bataan. Benguet and Sagada are just too far.

Pestano DH is still there but has lost some gnar.

okay naman giant revel. yung various version niya will have the same frame, albeit different groupsets and wheels, and of course different frame colors to denote lang the level.

here is the level of shimano groupset for mtb
    xtr
    xt
    lx/slx
    deore
    alivio
    non series

xtr being the highest. the higher up you go the less weight and better shifting. deore is already good since shares some features of the higher models, sa alivio walang 9speed. 8speed lang maximum nito.

i use combination of deore, lx and xt parts on my xc bike, pwede naman mix and match basta parehas lahat ng speed
shimano alivio now has 9speed, ganito nakalagay sa sgm soul ng kasama ko at sa gt ava 3.0 ko nung bimili namin

Yup, newest/latest grupos now have 10 speed till deore, while alivio is now at 9 speed. Xt and slx now even have the clutch type rear derailleur that xtr has.

hehe sorry my bad, didnt know alivio has 9 speed already, but should be the natural progression since deore and above are 10 spd now.

really not fan of 10speed, 9x2 is enough. guess shimano and sram are caught in the gear race just like cameras with their pixel race.

clutch type? what for? changing gears without pedaling?

i know honda pioneered this with their successful rn01 dh bike

Oo nga miLes, misleading/misnomer yung ginagamit ng SRAM at shimano dun sa clutch type. Purpose Lang nya ay to prevent/reduce chain slap/chain suck. More for protecting carbon fibre chainstays.

I'm using one right now, mas silent ang takbo at reduced and chain slap, although medyo mas matigas na yung shifter ko sa rear. Now I can sneak past my friends and protect my tomac supermatic frame, hehehe

ah i see, pwede naman lagyan ng chainstay protector and chain catcher. but i do love silent drivetrain, for me sign yan ng efficiency if sobrang tahimik ng chain and shifting, but i love noisy hubs hehe

kainis lang, for those not wanting to upgrade to 10spd, hirap na maghanap ng 9 speed xt or deore derailluers, shifters
